Some Woolly-ing, This Summertime♡

Hello lovely lovelies ♡ A lovely welcome to my summery place♡

Another week has slipped by. A catastrophic and tragic week for many. One cannot watch the TV screens and be but moved and saddened by the disastrous fires in Los Angeles. Another monumental weather event in the US of dire consequences. Just so sad. When I blog these days,  more often than not it seems to be tinged with sadness. Blogging as I do, sometimes seems superficial to me. To talk about frivolous things while catastrophes rage sometimes doesn't sit well with me. Ambivalent emotions are my constant companions.......

But....to frivolous things. What have I been up to this week?? Well....a little Liberty star making, but not enough to show you. Alas, I got sidetracked....yet again. I've been playing with my cache of needlepoints; and I've dabbled in a little crocheting, too.

But first, those needlepoints. Those of you who have visited my little place through the years would know that I have a penchant for hoarding collecting others' unwanted needlepoints. It's a wee bit of an addiction, though I must say now that I'm getting on in years it's becoming less of an obsession. And of course, I really need to whittle down my collection. Over the years the  needlepoints have been given a new life, incorporated into chairs, jackets, and many a new bag.

An ottoman I have had for many years was in need of a new cover. It was a bric-a-brac market find which I have recovered several times because over time each cover became beyond grubby. So, on the spur of the moment, I collected a few needlepoints, and armed with scissors and glue gun fashioned a new cover.

Needlepoints depicting different scenes flow around the sides, and on the top, an English cottage complete with a ubiquitous English flower garden, together with a collage of different florals here and there. A new cover which will last a few more years, and my needlepoint stash has become less. A win, win, me thinks.

I've started a new crochet pretty. A small blanket dancing in granny squares....(of course). The expectant mum wants a blanket in muted colours. So pretty baby pinks, lemons, blues, greens, are not to be seen. Muted browns, blues, greens with a little salmon thrown in are what's desired.

As it's Sunday, I think I'll put my feet up a bit, resting on my 'new' ottoman, and enjoy a little crochet as I join in with the slow stitching  ladies. I hope you can enjoy your Sunday, lovely lovelies♡ It's time for a cuppa, here

Until the next time......

  14. Stitching and blogging about it are my respite from the news and the tough times we live in - we deserve some peace at times, I think! I love what you've done with the thrifted needlework and the rocking chair and ottoman. So fun to see, Kim! Enjoy your crocheting today. I'm going to have a crochet lesson with some friends later this week!

    Muchos BESICOS.

    1. Pili, I have sat in my pretty chair a lot this week and crocheted granny squares. I know my girls won't be happy to have to clear all my sewing 'crap' ...as one of my girls calls all my sewing treasures. =) Hence, the need to lessen the cache before my untimely demise. =) Kim Xx

  17. Your cheery and colorful posts provide a necessary respite to the endless stream of sad and disturbing news that abounds these days. We all need some joy in our lives. The refurbished ottoman looks wonderful and is a great way to use up those thrifted needlepoints. And that chair is delightful as well. You have such creative ideas and the skills to make them happen.

  19. Your 'new' ottoman is a treasure - well done and a win/win to use some of your beautiful needlepoint pieces so you can see them every day.
As for being frivolous - never think that! We need more places like this to counterbalance the overabundance of gloom we're confronted with on a daily basis. You just keep on being a ray of sunshine!!!

  23. How marvellous that you have given a purpose to someone else’s handiwork. So much better than it ending up in the rubbish. Your ottoman is transformed.

  24. Frivolous, maybe, but oh-so-wonderful while we hope and pray for better times for all. I absolutely love the ottoman. If one should have an obsession, you chose well in needlepoint. Thumbs up on the muted colors of the granny squares. Mary @ Hilltop Post

  25. I am giggling at all your needlepoint. Oh my goodness! I have only done one and it was around my favorite saying; it took a few years. My grandmothers and great grandmothers did some and they were dull drab colors and were made into seat covers or wall hangings. So yours are brighter and more nature scenes. Such creativity you have. I also love your crocheting. Hand stitching on something somewhat mindless is indeed relaxing. Enjoy your summer; we have a little snow.

How fun to see your beautiful spring flowers while we are in the midst of winter.

  27. We need happy things to read to counteract all the doom and gloom we are constantly fed these days. Your chair and footstool look wonderful covered with the needlepoints you have collected. As does your jacket. Very pretty colours for you to crochet too.

  29. The wildfires in California are catastrophes - nothing but the sea left. It leaves me with tears in my eyes. Less than an inch of moisture in 8 months! Total devastation...so, so, so sad. Do we need more than lots of other places - with Trump and his mouth and his followers - perhaps, we need a bit more. God help us all.

  30. Oh my it so amazes me how beautiful you can cover a piece of furniture, that is just gorgeous and like you said now some more of the pretty stitchings can be enjoyed by all. I know what you mean about using things up, I feel the same way, I need to stop buying and just use what I have, I have enough to last me the rest of my life I am sure :) I love the colors you picked for the sweet blanket, I am sure the new mom and baby will love it!
