Hello, lovely lovelies ♡ From my little home to yours a blessed New Year to you♡ How did you see the new year in?? Did yours enter with a shebang, an explosion of fireworks, or, like me, did it creep in stealthily while you were sleeping?? I can't seem to stay up until the bewitching hour any more.
A new year. I wonder what stories we will write this year?? I wonder what stories will be inked into the history throughout the world. I just know with everything that is going on in this world of ours, it will be an interesting year. A very rough ride for some countries, and hence rippling throughout the world.
Before I chat about all things stitching, I want to say that I feel sadness at the passing of Jimmy Carter. Sad, though you would not wish him back. I'm sad that America, nor indeed the world will never see the likes of this wonderful statesman ever again. In the messy arena of politics he was a man of faith who never lost sight of who he was; or his deep faith. A most amazing man, whom with his equally amazing wife spent their years after the presidency in service of people, making millions of lives throughout the world better; living his faith, his love for God through his actions. No bangs and whistles, no noisy gongs and cymbals, no look at me, look at me, look at me; just going about his life showing humility, compassion, decency, selflessness; and grace to all. A shining beacon of graciousness. He once said, "to me, faith is not just a noun but also a verb". This encapsulates Jimmy Carter perfectly. I have no doubt, upon entering heaven, and as Jimmy Carter looked deep into the eyes of Jesus, the phrase "well done good and faithful servant!" was lovingly said. No doubt at all.
But, to all things slow stitching. Here in my little place where January meanders by with one perfect summer day after another, I've started the new year with petting pretty Liberty cottons. Bundles of twenty pretty fat quarters of sweet Liberty prints. And as I petted, and ooh-ed and ahh-ed over these pretties.......of course I had to take a few happy snaps before I snippety-snipped into them.
A new quilt for a new year. One of a few; perhaps?? Though, I never seem to churn out many quilts in any year. Just ambling, sometimes skipping, along the flowery path of slow stitching on many a Sunday.
From my little home to yours, sending you a little love sprinkled with sweetly fragranced sweet peas on this sunny, summery Sunday♡
Until the next time......
Such pretty photos! And your Liberty stars are delightful. Here's to a happy flowery New Year!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Linda. I'll second that....... to a happy flowery new year. =) Why, I'll even raise my glass. =) Kim Xx
DeleteMy family attended Jimmy Carter’s bible study at Plains Baptist church years ago. We stayed for the church service and afterwards, had a chance to meet Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter —we had our picture taken with them. We toured around the area and went to the farm where he grew up and his election headquarters at the train station. I have always been impressed and inspired by the work they did with Habitat for Humanity among many other causes. A very inspirational man—someone to be emulated.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stars ! I like the Kona/Liberty lawn combo. A perfect summer project. We are having a wintery blast of cold temperatures at the moment. Enjoy your stitching!
Gail at the cozy quilter
Hi Gail, I must say meeting Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, having photos and walking in their orbit for a day is a bit special! Just wow! A privilege many would love to have had. A most amazing couple. The likes which we'll never see again. I watched the service at the Jimmy Carter Center this morning. It was moving. The state funeral will be impressive. I'm glad he passed while Joe Biden is still in office. It would've been abhorrent Trump getting any glory. He would've somehow made it all about himself. An irony which did make me chuckle....when a US president dies the flags are half-staff for a month thereafter. That means at Trump's inauguration the flags will still be lowered. An inauguration many no doubt, will be in mourning. So, so ironic. Of course Trump being the deplorable human he is will kick and scream like an enfant terrible and do his darndest to raise the flags in celebration. Oh dear..... it's going to be a very loooooong four years. =)
DeleteI'm enjoying these stars. I do like an EPP pretty on the go. Thank you for stopping by. I'm still getting over that you actually met Jimmy Carter. It's something I would've considered a unique privilege. Enjoy your Sunday, lovely Gail. KimXx
I spent most of New Year's Eve dancing my tootsies off, but was snuggled under the covers before the new year rolled around. :-) Love your fabrics. Looking forward to what you create next!

ReplyDeleteLoving your diamond stars, Kim--so beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteWe felt sad to hear of Jimmy Carter's passing here...he did so much for so many in his life...would that we had another to take his place...
Hugs, Julierose
The Resident Chef and I ushered in the new year in bed with our books. No party animals in this household unless you count the dust elephants. You wrote a lovely tribute to Jimmy Carter and, like many, we know that he received a 'well done'.
ReplyDeleteOnce again you're fashioning another beautiful creation.
I have been sad about the passing of Jimmy Carter all week long, Kim. He was an interesting and amazing man. I am so worried for our country in these next few years - we don't have statesmen like him anymore, that's for sure. I love your new EPP project - so pretty and summery! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteyes Jimmy Carter was an amazing human. I was glad he reached his 100 years and was able to vote for Kamala last November as he had hoped to do even though it didn't go the way a lot of us wanted it do. He did so many wonderful things in his 100 years and helped so many people and lived a simple life. I am always amazed at how much American politics matter around the globe. It will be a long 4 years. I love all your fabric colors for the EPP stars you are doing so many pretty colors.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to see such beauty when my world is covered in snow and ice! Very refreshing... thank you for sharing them!
ReplyDeleteMy parents also loved Jimmy Carter. They travelled to the Carter Centre in Georgia and saw him in person. They did love and respect him very much and mourn his passing.
Such pretty stars!
ReplyDeleteYes, I share your admiration for Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter. I'm of the age where I remember his presidency, as well as Ronald Reagan's, Kennedy and Bush. We've had a run of extremely poor examples of humanity in the White House since. While I'm not a fan of Trump by any means, it was again a choice of the lesser of two evils. I will continue praying that he keeps his boastful mouth shut and gets on with the job of cleaning out the excess in the federal government, erasing the excesses that happened in the last 4 years and hopefully directs our people back to supporting each other instead of tearing everyone down, and to unifying our country. It's a miserable time being a senior - we remember the 'good old days' while worrying about what our children & grandchildren are going to be left with. Deb in CA
ReplyDeleteAlas, sadly Trump is incapable of keeping his "boastful mouth shut". It really is all about him and nobody else. America has voted and for the next four years he is what America has. Kim
DeleteMy late husband attended the Peanut Fesitval in Plains, GA several years. It was held in September and included a birthday celebration for Jimmy. President Carter always led Sunday School during the festival and people lined up hours ahead of time to get a seat in the church. Attendees got their picture taken with President and Mrs. Carter and I have several years of photos of my husband with the Carters. The Carters also would autograph books that attendees brought with them and I have several of those. And, finally, I have a canceled check signed by Mrs. Carter for Jimmy's dues for the American Political Items Collectors, for which my husband was membership chairman for 10 years. Needless to say, we both had great admiration for the Carters.
ReplyDeleteI have been making EPP stars just like yours (except not with Liberty fabrics) for a number years and am currently sewing the stars together. I'm very slow and haven't devoted much time to them, but I keep plugging away at it.
Pat
Gorgeous fabrics Kim, I can't wait to see what you come up with! I feel the same as you do about Jimmy Carter. Happy New Year!
