Deary, Deary Me

Hello, lovely lovelies♡ Thank you for your sweet words re my post last week. It seems the consensus of opinion is for all of us to keep on stitching and blogging as an antidote to the many sadnesses in this world. 'Keep Calm and Stitch On'; as the Brits would say. So, as a percentage of British blood courses through my veins, this is what I shall do. I, and those of you whom are like minded, will certainly have to stitch our fingers to the bone and blog like crazy, because from tomorrow when Trump and his Deplorables take over the White House, the Dystopian Era begins. Deary, deary me. I've heard the inauguration is being held inside because of the frigid weather conditions??!! There's a chill in the pomp and circumstance. You know......hell will freeze over before......a convicted felon becomes President and is given the keys to the White House! Mmm....but then, I wonder if the size of the inaugural crowd is pressing on his mind???? Oops....a bit naughty of me but you know me, facetiousness will sometimes get the better of me. Deary, deary me.

I've started another quilt. Deary, deary me. I really didn't  intend to. It's one of those happenstance things. I was hunting for the perfect grey fabric for the hexies which will be incorporated into my star quilt and another path opened up for me to skip along. Instead of finding a grey fabric to dance with my Liberty stars, I found the perfect grey for a new quilt where baskets of flowers will be the show stoppers. There really is no rhyme or reason as to the workings of my muddly mind. I see a batik covered in smudgy greys with hints  of leaves and stems all over.......and I think flower baskets! Why......don't you?? =)

I do love quilts filled with baskets of flowers. I've fashioned a couple of quilts featuring baskets reminiscent of the 1930's, but this time I wanted a more modern aesthetic. Simple baskets with floral fabrics being the 'darlings' instead of applique flowers. No piecing of oodles of triangles, nor HST's......no fussy machine stitching of convex and concave curves; just quick hand appliqueing of each basket and fabric bias for the handles.

The baskets are Kona solids and the flowers are an assortment of florals from my stash. The background as I've said is a grey batik print with a hint of leaves.

January 20th. Inauguration Day. Martin Luther King Jr Day. My birthday.  Thankfully, down here at the bottom of the world, January 20th arrives sixteen hours before the USofA, so I will enjoy tea and cake in celebration of the day of my birth. I will also raise my fine bone china teacup in honour of Martin Luther King Jr, for he is worthy of celebration. As for the inauguration, thankfully, I will be fast asleep as the Grand Poobah basks in the  glow and warmth of his adoring and worshipping acolytes, as they ceremoniously heap praise and glory  upon him. Deary, deary me, it's too much for me to bear; to witness the 'emperor with no clothes' wearing that triumphant smirk of his.

And.....on that note, I'm off before I get into any more trouble.......because I just know I will.  Deary, deary me. =) I am going to enjoy a little slow stitching of my pretty baskets, this Sunday.

Bye lovely lovelies. Until the next time....

    1. Di, I wish I was there to give you a big hug♡ America, and the world, will just have to ride out the next four years. There's always fear of the unknown, isn't there? Take care, dear lady.

  2. those baskets of flowers are sunshine on a cloudy day here in the freezin' cold great american high desert (Lewis and Clark calling this the Great Plains may have fooled some of the people long ago, but this here is desert desert desert, plain and simple) ... and i, for one, needed some lovely color on a grey, snowy, frigid day - thank you!!!

happy birthday!!! eat a piece of cake for me!!!

p.s. - after Monday there are 1461 days to resist his evil (january 20, 2028 - which will still be your birthday!!!) - the good news is that FFOTUS is immoral, not immortal

p.s.s. - sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof - we can do this because we must do this

    1. Dianne, I'm in total agreement with your immoral and not immortal statement. The next 1,461 days are going to seem like an eternity, aren't they?? As to standing up to the evil which is about to come through the network of tunnels and bunkers of the White House.....we can do this. Stay warm in that "freezin' cold of yours. As always, a visit from you is a delight. Oh....cutting you a slice of birthday cake right now. =) Kim Xx

  3. Hi Sarah. The quilt you are making will be beautiful with all those nice baskets.
Yes inauguration day in Monday. Trump wants to take over our country, Canada and is causing a stir with trade. What a trouble maker.
    Happy quilting. Thelma.

  7. We will celebrate your birthday and ignore all the posturing and idiocy happening south of us. A birthday is a fine thing to celebrate I think.
We can also celebrate the beginnings of a new pretty being shaped by your clever hands. Yes, there's much to celebrate and we have to keep our eyes on those things and try our best to ignore the rest. Happy Birth Day my friend!!!!

  11. Those baskets are just gorgeous! I can see some lovely quilting on them too. So pretty. I am boycotting all news programmes tomorrow - for some reason our broadcasters all feel that we need wall to wall coverage! And as for 'President Musk' the power behind the throne, he seems to think he is going to take over the UK as well as Greenland and Canada - not on my watch! Yes, just keep on sewing and enjoy. xx

  12. Those baskets are gorgeous! They really showcase the florals and the background works with them so well. I've already been boycotting the news, it's just too stressful to watch these days. I'm expecting to stitch a lot the next 4 years!

  13. Happy birthday! Your baskets are utterly charming!

  14. I wish it would not be on the news all day but it will be and some will be watching every minute of it - I will not - I do not care for him and have a low opinion. Instead I will be busy reading, and sewing. Have a wonderful birthday!!

  15. Hear Hear, Kim--well said. I thank heavens for our supportive community of "like-minded" creatives--like you;))) [my husband's comment: "Inauguration? Really??, Is that Monday? I haven't been paying attention!!" he is so ironic!! ].
"Deary Deary Me" is right!! ;)))
You can think of me working on my "Dark Days" (aka back to the Dark Ages)--and not giving one little thought to "L'Orange" and his crew!!
We are having a total News blackout here in our little home on the hillside for the foreseeable future...
I will not let him/them stir my life into an angry whirl--I went through that the last time--I still canNOT believe that he's BACK!! Enough!! Basta!! Begone!!:0000

Your little baskets are just so lovely, Kim...so sweet...I love the clear solid colors you've chosen...and the floral background fabrics filling them...beautiful work on these...thanks so much for sharing...hugs Julierose

  16. Thanks for giving us a reason to celebrate tomorrow. Happy Birthday. Enjoy your tea and cake. It is also my brother's birthday.
I think you were on the mark as to the reason for moving the "ceremony" indoors. Fear that his cult would choose not to come out in the cold. But, then, maybe Melanie stomped her foot and declared she wouldn't attend if it was outdoors. Anyway, I intend to ignore the whole thing and sew the day away.

  17. Haha, great post! Happy, happy birthday to someone I admire for both creativity and sparkling wit, may this be a year of of much delightful making and personal flourishing. I’m so utterly disgusted that The Rump and his appalling toadies are set to wreak havoc on our democracy and the world at large; it’s going to be cold comfort that sane people will be shouting from the rooftops, “I told you so!” and “ What did you *think* was going to happen!?”

  18. Oops, I was so busy chuckling over my nickname, “The Rump”, I forgot to sign my post as Nancy O. 😜😹

    1. Nancy, you did make me chuckle. As for that wit of mine, it does percolate to the surface from time to time and gets me in all manner of trouble. But truly, Trump induces all manner of ridiculousness with the bizarreness that seems to enshroud him on a daily basis. He is a most unserious person. I have a feeling as the next four years roll on, there will be many disillusioned with what they thought Trump would do for them, isn't so. So sad. I feel sad for America, and for the world. It's going to be a bitter pill for some to swallow. Hear, hear to a year of delightful making and personal flourishing. Though, at times I feel it will be hard to keep calm and carry on. =) Thank you for your sweet visit and kind words. It's been an absolute delight to have you stop by. Kim Xx

  21. Happy Birthday, dear Kim. I think the whole world will be waiting and watching what the convicted felon will be doing. God Bless America and I'm sure you are just as thankful as I am that we live down here in this part of the world. As for your pretty baskets, that's a very clever take on adding the flowers, clever old you!
