Brrrr.....It's Cold Outside

Hello lovely lovelies♡ A lovely welcome to you this chilly Sunday afternoon♡ The sun's out and if one can find a sunny little nook it's toasty and warm. Here at my little abode there are big picture windows where Old Man Sun's sunbeams invade every dark corner shooing the chilliness away. I do believe sunshine is my very favourite thing in life. Well, let's just say.....one of my favourite things. 'Tis the season for thick, woolly jumpers, boots, woolly blankets and snuggling under the quilt one is quilting. Yes indeedy, winter is the season for hand quilting♡

Jack Frost has set up residence. Yep, he finally arrived. And, I must say he arrived with great gusto and oomph! Every flower which was hanging on to dear life with one last breath, gave up the ghost and fled deep down into the ground. The hydrangeas; quite lovely one day, burnt and ugly the next. The dahlias, a pitiful sight of charred-like misery. The dahlias have been cut back to ground level where they will bloom again in summer. The hydrangeas I fear will just have to look dreadful and bereft for a while as they won't be pruned till August. Though, I must say regardless of all my belly-aching, the ice-sheathed ground, as far as the eye can see and the beauty in the ice-etched leaves is rather sculptural and artistically beautiful. All right....all right....there is much beauty in winter. There.....I admit it! But.......I did say to Pete last evening......."only three months till spring!". =)

Fortunately, the hydrangeas I had been cutting before all the destruction have been drying quite nicely. All have retained their lovely blue hues. More so, than last year. I don't know what I did but they are looking lovely in their demise. They truly do make me smile in their shrivelled and withered, paper-like state.

Though I could chat about all things flowers all day, every day, I suppose, because it is Sunday and I will visit Kathy's place later this evening, I should chat about all things slow hand stitching. There's not a lot to say, really. The hand quilting on the wee baby quilt has begun. The stitches are skipping up and then down the length of the quilt, in diagonal lines. Hand quilted stitches happily skipping along in a merry fashion. I don't suppose the quilting will take too long, then I can bind the wee quilt and send it on it's merry way wrapped in many kisses and hugs♡ This wee little quilt just makes me smile♡

Another Sunday nearly gone. Another week ahead filled with dreams of pretties to stitch and create as I hand quilt away. Have a beautiful week, lovely lovelies♡ May there be many moments which cause you to smile and be thankful♡

Until the next time..........

  2. Winter is a good time for slow stitching! The baby quilt will be finished before you know it, maybe there is time to make a 2nd one? I've revamped the front flowerbeds to suit me, not the former owner. I've added 4 hydrangea bushes! They are mini bushes and won't be more than 2 feet tall but I'll have flowers this autumn. Happy stitching!

  4. Jack Frost does create some magical scenes in the garden, even though it means wintery weather has arrived. I hope the sun beams coming through your windows help to keep you warm inside as you quilt that lovely baby quilt. I absolutely love the animal fabrics you used. Enjoy your stitching this week. 1. Jack Frost does indeed create much beauty as he throws his icy darts allover. Thankfully, after he comes there is a bright and sunshiny day that follows...always a very good thing. =) The afghan is beautiful isn't it. A clever friend gifted it to me. Such a lucky gal, that I am. Thank you so much for your sweet visit and beautiful words. I'm glad I put a little smile into your day. Kim Xx

  8. everything looks beautiful covered in frost but yes it is a chilly wait for the plants to come alive again in the spring. Get those jumpers and wooly socks out!

  9. Your frost photos are really lovely. I challenged myself with a photo project when it was winter here. It's hard to find the beauty in deep winter, but it's there if you really, really look.

  10. We were visited by Jack Frost for what is hopefully the last time this spring. Down to 29 degres F, then an all day rain yesterday (but that was much needed). Now I must go out and spread some of the mulch that was delivered Friday while the ground is still nice and moist. I'm amazed at how quickly you sewed together the charming quilt for the new grandbaby. It will be a delight to see all the lovelies you will create for this lucky child.

  12. My hydrangeas don't dry up to those pretty colors. But then my soil conditions make pink hydrangeas, they rarely stay blue. Hope you get some beautiful sunshine. We were in the 90's all last week, and I guess we are due to have high 80s to low 90s for the foreseeable future. If I want to work outside I need to get out first thing in the morning. Have a great week Kim!

  15. Las fotos de hojas heladas también tienen su encanto... tonalidades frías... diferentes a la alegría y color que nos tienes acostumbradas, pero también bonitas.
Ya veo que tu pequeño edredón avanza muy bien y te da alegría.
    BESICOS.

    1. Hi lovely Kay, the hydrangeas have dried beautifully this year. I don't know why though, as I haven't done anything differently. The crochet blanket was a gift from a friend. It's beautiful, isn't it?? I have made a promise to myself that I'm going to teach myself how to crochet via YouTube. There are so many gorgeous pretties to make. Have a beautiful week, lovely lady. Thank you for your sweet visit. Kim Xx

  20. We've been having a few nights of Jack Frost way up here also. Still, he does put on quite a show. You were so lucky to be gifted that crochet blanket. I wonder if she used a kit as all the colours used are on the soft side of value? Your baby quilt is coming along quite nicely and soon it will be finished.

  21. I agree about the sunshine, even when it is cold if the sun is shinning it is a good day, especially in the winter months it is much needed to lift the spirits. My husband says that there is beauty in every season you just have to look for it harder in some :) Your flowers are so pretty drying. Your quilting is coming along beautifully!! Have a great week!

  22. I can't believe it's time for you to be so frosty! But it makes sense, as I start to move seedlings to my garden and the spring flowers are out in force. I can't believe June is just around the corner!

After LOTS of rain we are having some really lovely autumnal days this week. Your baby quilt is looking so beautiful Kim! Such a sweet colour combination. Keep Warm! xx

  27. You know, dear Kim, May is the most beautiful spring time for us... the rapeseed is blooming... it's the time when I always stay at home - never travel - because it's so beautiful here.
I remember cold here with me and in your garden the most beautiful flowers bloomed... isn't the world interesting.
Happy hand quilting... what a great work you are creating again... pure joy.
Hugs and lots of love to you from Viola

    1. Viola, your May, dancing in the springtime sounds glorious. I can, in my mind's eye, see all the beauty of nature that surrounds you. Yes, it is interesting to think that you are enjoying the spring sunshine while I'm shivering in the cold of Old Man Winter. =) Oh well, I will just have to snuggle under my little quilt and hand quilt away. Thank you for the gift of your visit. It is always a lovely day when you visit my little place, lovely Viola. Kim Xx

  32. I like frost, provided I'm on the inside looking out. It's still cool here - unseasonally so - and the plants are suffering. Normally we have fresh local strawberries by now but not this year.
Seeing your teasels reminded me of seeing someone crafting them into little mice.
