Hello lovely lovelies, lovely friends♡ A quick post from moi (thank the Good Lord for that, I hear you say) before I fall into bed. 'Tis late Sunday night here and I'm ready to curl up under a few quilts and drift off to the Land of Nod. Why, I do believe one of my favourite times of the day is bedtime. I love my bed. And, I love my sleep.
And what pretty makes have I been working on this week?? Well......I finished machine stitching my little 6" squares for the Christmas Fusion quilt. Yep, each fabric square is stitched together. Throughout the week I blanket stitched around some more squares and continued crocheting around the squares.
I've also started to knit a wee jumper for wee Lenox. After all Old Man Winter and his sidekick Jack Frost will be visiting his little world soon. This jumper is a jumble of lots of colours which I wouldn't ordinarily use all together. I bought lots of different wool colours for another jumper I wanted to knit. It was a colourwork jumper with a few critters as the stars. A fox, a deer, a bear, a rabbit, a hedgehog....and a penguin, if my memory serves me correctly. But, as I knitted along I didn't like what was before me. The knitting was very uneven and untidy and oh my goodness, what a horribly, tangled mess the yarns became. Oh, what a tangled mess I weaved!! As I knitted, ever-patient Pete would all too frequently untangle the yarns as I knitted but I decided enough was enough. I mean, Lenox would be a teenager before his jumper would've been finished! I don't know why it was all a bit of a chore as this wasn't the first colourwork garment I've knitted.
When I was a young slip of a girl knitting colourwork garments were my favourite to knit, but now......perhaps not. At least not one with tiny critters smiling around the jumper and a plethora of messy knitted and knotted strands of wool. So, I'm now knitting a simple, garter stitch jumper in all of the colours. Oh......but all the loose strands to be sewn in at the seams!! This jumper is a bit of an experiment, though. I'll have to wait till it's finished to see whether I'm enamoured with it or not. But I must say I'm loving the muddly mess of colours. Also, I'm loving the wrong side better. So, the wrong side is now the right side. Not that there's a 'wrong' side of garter stitch, I suppose. I like the muddier rows to the neat even rows. =)
Until the next time......

You are a much faster knitter than I am. I guess when you are knitting for grandchildren, you have to knit quickly or they will outgrow it before it’s done! I like the backside too! Great call on making it the side that will show. Fall temps are finally here and the trees around here are very colourful. Happy early Spring to you and Pete. He really is a saint for helping you keep the coloured yarns on your colourwork straight! Lennox will love his colourful new sweater made by his granny. Gail at the cozy quilter
ReplyDeleteI really love that little striped jumper you are knitting, Kim. So cute--Weaving in ends is always a challenge--or at least it was for me--I tried to carry and weave in as I went but then the tension became an issue, too!! At any rate your project is looking lovely...
ReplyDeleteI can no longer knit [and it was my very first craft]--so I miss that soothing repetitive motion a lot...but hand quilting is the next best for me...all probably from practicing
piano for so many hours and years...I love anything where you can lose yourself
and get into that "zone"...speaking of which, I have gotten my 5th page all set and just have a little more basting to do on it....;)))
Enjoy your Springtime--here the leaves are mostly yellows -- peak color is supposed to be in the next couple weeks--but I do not see our usual glorious displays--not enough rain fell over our Summer this year for that methinks....
Hugs, Julierose
I do know what you mean about sleep, here recently I have awaken in the morning and my first praise is that he gives us a time of rest and recoup from the day before, that gives us the energy to get through another day :)
ReplyDeleteI have found there are some things that I can't do that I once did also, must be a part of aging I guess, thankful for what I still can do, that is for sure. I do love the colors you are using in his jumper, it sure looks like it will be nice and cozy :)
Have a great week!
I feel the same about bedtime, Kim! Your jumper for little Lenox looks like it's going to be perfect for him. I like those colors all together - the pretty blue ties everything together. Happy knitting!

XO Daniela @ ~ My little old world ~ (Dany)
Hello lovely Daniela, It's so nice to have you visit. Yes, it seems that I've been knitting for most of my life having started as a child. And now that I have grand babies I seem to have been enveloped in a woolly world knitting and crocheting for them. Autumn sounds glorious in your little old world, as spring is in mine. I'm being smothered by flowers at the moment. =) I'm one happy lady. Kim Xx
DeleteLovely knitting, I am slower than molasses. Your flowers are lovely as usual. Have a great week Kim.
ReplyDeleteThat little pullover is sooo darling, Kim! Baby Lenox will look cute as a button in it. 😻 Bet you can’t wait to see him! Hugs, Nancy
ReplyDeleteLovely projects!
ReplyDeleteHello Kim, it's always great to read your post! I guess that Spring is heading your way as Fall is here with us. I do love the fall colours and we are having lovely weather. I'm not sure what your knitted critters are about but that didn't sound like much fun. Your colourful jumper will be fun and very lovely I'm sure. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI love all the colours going into your little jumper, looking great from here. xx
ReplyDeleteYou sew fast and knit fast ! And do it well ;)

Have a shinny week Dear Kim !

it is windy this morning and our second frost is due to arrive tonight - after the wind calms, there will be leaves to rake into piles so i can crunch crunch crunch them (and then rake them up again) ... it will be a welcome distraction from doomscrolling and pity-potting ... love the little sweater - and really grateful that it's not me who has to weave in all those ends of sweet stripes - ha ha ha!!!
ReplyDeleteI really like your projects! Lovely colours and patterns!
ReplyDeleteI like the jumper that is appearing from you needles.
ReplyDeleteOh dear Sarah, this little sweater with its cotton yarn is going to be beautiful... I also love the purl rows on the front and especially the variety of colors. Yes, yes... the threads... I know... I was a knitter for years... until I turned to sewing. New challenges are always nice.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll knit another sweater sometime :-))) Winter is just around the corner here... but now... autumn is at its peak and gorgeous.
Hugs to you and lots of love.
Hi Kim! I think you are an excellent knitter! I love our bed, too. Sleep is so important!
ReplyDeleteSorry, I have missed you as I travel here and there. Love your knitting and the stripes look just amazing with the colors you have selected. But no, I don't envy all the weaving you will have to do. Knitting is so mindless, yet so relaxing.
