Hello lovely lovelies♡ A lovely Sunday welcome to you♡ I hope you enjoyed a pleasant week. I did. I had fun stitching a bag for my friend, and indeed, added the finishing touches this morning....hand stitching the lining to the bag.....hand stitching the handles on......sewing the flap closure. Why do the finishing touches always take so long??!! My friend fashions lovely crochet pretties, so she wanted a carry-all to hold her yarns, patterns and whatever other woolly accoutrements needed for what she is working on. Of course, this is not quite like any knitting/crochet bag one would find in a shop. Snippets of lace, a fabulous, rather large, doily butterfly; a needlepoint, twirls and twirls of ribbon meandering through a buckle, ribbon flowers, doilies, vintage jewellery, needlepoints and whatever else tumbles out of my treasure trove of pretties seem to find a place on any one of my bags, giving each one a little bit of oomph!
The lining is a fabric with phrases of lyrics from old hymns printed on it. I used this fabric with a wry smile. Back in the days of my friend's and my youth, we would sing hymns and choruses in church and youth group. Alas, my friend never did sing in the church choir. Let's just say she made a "joyful noise unto the Lord"; something of which she would remind me constantly.....and still does, actually. Alas, she was (and is) tone deaf. Yes indeed, she always found it a bit tricky to distinguish the variances in pitch of different tones. But, she always enjoyed singing, which really is the only thing that matters, isn't it?? When we do get together we still chuckle about those youth group days and her discordant voice rising above the mellifluous strains of others. I must say though that my beautiful friend has so many other talents and gifts and blesses others' lives each and every day. She wouldn't mind at all my mentioning her unmelodic singing; why, she would only too happily tell you herself. =)
When my friend espies the lining fabric, I hope her mind will wander back through the years, to those fun days of church youth group and smile at all the memories. There are so many happy memories of church youth group days. I must say, as I fashioned leaves and pansies from lengths of ribbons and stitched all the pretties onto the bag all these wonderful old hymns came to mind......This is the day that the Lord has made.....Amazing Grace......Great is Thy faithfulness, Morning by morning new mercies I see......♡ Aah yes, every morning I am reminded of God's mercies and blessings to me; His love for me. Love, love, love those grand old hymns.
A new bag for my friend. A bag which was fun to fashion. But then, playing with ribbons, cast off needlepoints, vintage pretties and bits and bobs is always fun to me. I hope my friend is not adverse to a knitting/crochet bag embellished to the hilt. If one is going to have a bag why not have one dripping with a saturation of pretties smothering it. =) As my friend happily crochets or knits away perhaps those grand old hymns will traverse down the corridors of sweet memories, and she will make a joyful noise unto the Lord♡ As it is Sunday, later this evening I will pop into Kathy's lovely place to see what the merry band of slow stitchers are stitching. Have a lovely day, lovely lovelies♡
Until the next time.....
Beautiful bag for your friend Kim, she is going to fall in love! xx
ReplyDeletePS You cant beat the beautiful old hymns - sad they are now being replaced by 'songs'! xx

ReplyDeleteWhat a lucky friend to have a person with your talent for making beautiful bags out of collected vintage items! It sure is a pretty thing, and I am sure she loved it!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping my friend will love her bag, Jayne. If I know her I think she might. =) Thank you for your sweet visit. Have a lovely week. I'm guessing you are still enjoying your vacation in Florida?? Kim Xx
DeleteDown the rabbit hole and out comes a unique piece, made from the heart with love, creative endeavours beautiful fabrics and every angle covered with wonderful treasures. She will be able to touch and feel, see and just be blessed with this beautiful bag. Loving it and starting adventures with it each and every day, reminding me of the “Velveteen Rabbit “!
ReplyDeleteMaggie, I love falling down the rabbit hole where sumptuous fabrics, smidgens of lace, ribbons, needlepoints, doilies, vintage pretties await to be played with, petted and transformed into something beautiful. It is playing in the very best sense. Ahh. ..The Velveteen Rabbit....a most endearing and beautiful story. This is a well-loved book which was read many a time to my girls when they were little. My copy is a gorgeous picture book where the delightful illustrations add more beauty to the timeless story. Yes, I wonder what beautiful crochet pretties-in-progress my friend's little embellished bag will hold?? Thank you so much for your beautiful words; such a beautiful gift your words are. Kim Xx

Gorgeous bag for a very lucky friend! I remember singing in the church choir twice a week. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteLovely bag.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your friend will get much enjoyment from her lovely bag, as you obviously enjoyed creating it just for her.
ReplyDeleteEs maravilloso, cuando tu amiga lo vea seguro que cantará los himnos de su interior con una gran sonrisa.
ReplyDeleteSe nota que está hecho con todo tu cariño. BESICOS.
Your friend is blessed indeed to have such a beautiful bag fashioned from your clever hands. I can certainly join in with her off-key choir as I've been reminded many many times over the years. When I was in grade school the entire school had to compete every year at a music festival and I remember the music teacher taking me aside and requesting that I just mouth the words. Needless to say any aspirations I had towards being a singer were dashed.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful and charming. Precious gift. Hugs and blessings.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, lovely Maristella. May your week be sprinkled with many blessings, too. Kim Xx

DeleteBeautiful bag Kim, love the butterfly on the front. Your friend will be so happy with it.
ReplyDeleteYour bags are definitely conversation starters! Gorgeous bag and I chuckled about you using that hymn fabric inside.
ReplyDeleteOh my is it ever gorgeous, I just can hear the gasp when she sees this beauty you have fashioned for her, the lovely stitchery with the crochet butterfly and your lovely flowers in just the right combination is just fantastic! I like the touch you added with the lining to add a little memories from childhood too, great addition to it.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous week to come!
Your bag is so beautiful, Kim and is a work of art that is for sure. I am particularly drawn to the butterfly . Your dear friend will be over the moon . Have a very lovely week. Hugs
ReplyDeleteOh My Kim ... you have worked your magic yet again!!! How utterly beautiful it is!! 💙💜 Your friend will surely be so delighted ... so much beauty to see in it all. I am wondering if the butterfly is off a vintage doiley? I ask you because it looks familiar to me & I think I may have had a doiley with this on it. xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautifully embellished bag for your lucky friend, Kim! I especially love the butterfly on the front. I hope you have a wonderful week of creativity!
ReplyDeleteYour friend and I have much in common, I think, especially the tone deafness. I only sang to my grands and quietly in church. What was that guy (kinda weird) that played his banjo and sang "Tiptoe through the Tulips" - I always thought he and I had something in common - atrocious singing!!! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely bag - she will love it. You have put so many gorgeous tidbits on it that are absolutely fabulous. I can hardly believe that you have so many amazing lovelies - they never seem to end - you always have more, or so it seems. That backing fabric is stunning - not to be undone by the striking drawer fronts. (Tell me something about them.) I thought they were a picture till I saw that the bag was hanging from one of the pulls! BTW, the glads are lovely, too. Do you ever have to dig up the glad bulbs for the winter? I always plant glads - digging them up each fall and replanting in the spring/summer.
Your comment has caused me to laugh out loud. If your voice was as "atrocious" as Tiny Tim's then it was probably a good thing you sang softly in church. =) It's a wonder the tulips and everything else didn't collapse from shock when he sang in that dreadful voice. He was popular though......very strange.
DeleteAhh yes ....my treasure trove of pretties do not end. I have an Aladdin's cave overflowing with them. A wee bit of an addiction of collecting them through the years.
Ahh ...those drawers. Aren't they fabulous?? My husband bought them as a wedding anniversary gift many years ago. Each drawer has been crafted with pieces of hardware attached to them. Then different paint colours applied and sanded to give a rustic look. I am that gal who loves peeling paint ...and rust. =) Not only do these drawers stow away unsightly TV cd's and other paraphernalia, they make a great prop for a photo shoot .
As for the gladdies....love, love, love the colours this year. I bought tons of tubers to be planted this year. Will probably buy even more next season. As you have probably surmised by now I am a more-is-never-enough kinda gal. I don't dig the gladdies up nor indeed the dahlias each year. They are left in the ground. Winters here, though I consider freezing, are not as frigid as other parts of the world. It nevers snows here, though the ground is often sheathed in ice, early in the morning.
Thank you so much for stopping by and delighting me with your fabulous comments. You have brought a smile to my morning bringing to mind Tiny Tim, strumming "that" tune, singing "that" song in "that" voice. I wish I knew your name. Now, I must be off. I am going to tiptoe through the gladdies and sing me a song. =) Kim Xx
