Skipping Around The Garden Path, Again♡

Hello lovely lovelies♡ Welcome to my little place, this very chilly Sunday. It was a blue-sky day, where outside the winds were a-blowing all day, but inside the sun's rays sprinkled warmth and cheeriness wherever they touched. It was one of those washing-flapping-in-the-wind, kinda days. Freezing outside but warm as toast inside.

This week I laid my pretty Tilda Chic Escape fabrics aside for a little while and picked up my Skipping Around The Garden Path quilt. The last time I chatted about this pretty I had finished all the blocks; the days were warm, the cosmos were sashaying and the dahlias were putting on a glorious show. This week I stitched all the blocks together. There were a few sunny days where  my sewing room was awash with warm sunshine, where I cosied down for many an hour soaking up all the cheery rays. It took a little while as I had to make certain the squares met exactly. When I handstitched all the wedges together, I didn't actually sew down the sides of each of the intersecting squares because when I eventually joined these together, if indeed these didn't meet perfectly, I would manipulate each one so they did. I hope to hand stitch these down later this evening (though I fear I have run out of time) when I join the other slow stitching lovelies at Kathy's place.

I want to add a border around the outside, so I have a thought of hand stitching pentagons in a continuous arrangement skipping all the way around the edge. These pentagons will be stitched onto lengths of the slate grey fabric. I have no idea if this will work, but I will certainly give it a whirl. As I am a mathematically challenged gal I am going to make it up as I go along. Just playing yet again. So, I have covered many more pentagon EPP shapes and have begun to stitch these together in groups of six. I thought too, that this quilt would look fabulous with a scalloped edging all the way around, but of course this is jumping the gun, just a little. =)

Now to see if what is in my muddly head can translate to lots of happy pentagons filled with scrappy loveliness, skipping around the border of the quilt. Another good-in-theory, lame brain notion perhaps?? But.....if it pans out in the end, then I will be doing a happy dance. =) If perchance it goes belly up, then at least I will have oodles of scrappy pentagons in readiness for another pretty sometime down my hand stitching path.

Hoping you enjoy a lovely week, lovely lovelies♡ Thank you for gifting my day with your lovely visit♡ May you find small joys in the ordinary of the everyday♡ See you next week........perhaps. =)

Until the next time..................

    1. I love my little Bernina, too, Kathi. My husband spotted it at a market and said I had to have it; and I certainly wasn't going to disagree with him. =) Yay.....if it is your summer equinox, then that must mean it is the winter solstice here. That means that after that, a little more daylight with each day...doing a happy dance. Kim Xx

  2. I just love this quilt you are making…so light and airy with all that background fabric showing. Can’t wait to see the border. It’s supposed to rain a lot this afternoon so perhaps I will have some sewing time. We planted several new perennials yesterday so they are quite happy with the rain! Your sewing room looks like a lovely spot to while away the hours

  7. Oh that quilt is just fabulous. Even this math teacher can get bogged down when it comes to quilt measurements. I like the idea of scrappy pentagons as a border and I am sure you will figure it out. Stay warm!

  10. Talk about discipline! I would have abandoned this quilt in favour of the new pretties in a heart beat. Good for you for finishing this one before you play with the new.

  11. It's delightful to see progress on Skipping Around the Garden. Certainly, it reminds you of your beloved summer season. I do believe the majority of the fabrics are Liberty? I must buy some. Sewing in a sunny area is the best. A scalloped border would be perfect! Would you believe there is a vintage wedding ring quilt set with a blue solid currently on my bed. The rings make a natural scalloped edge. May I add how wonderful your just released Tilda fabrics are.

  14. Your 'Garden' quilt is just yummy. I am sure that the pentagons in the border will work out just fine whether you're mathematically challenged or not. :) Gorgeous photos, as usual. Loved the one in the fernery where you have the quilt hanging and the pots of geraniums (+ others) arranged in front.

  32. I like the making it up as you go. I often do that with my knitting or crocheting. Sometimes I find that more fun than totally figuring things before hand. The quilt is coming along very nicely. I can see the sun in your work room. It looks and sounds lovely.

  33. Kim, you would never suspect you are in the middle of the winter doldrums by the bright and cheery pictures from your sewing room! Your Garden Path quilt is coming along beautifully and the outdoor photos, with it blowing in the breeze, are lovely! I'll be anxious to see how your unique border idea works out, but as you said, if it doesn't work out like you'd hoped, you'll have lots of already-made pieces for a future project. Wishing you much success and continued coziness! Blessings! Zenda
