Sweet Sunday

A lovely welcome to you lovely lovelies, this sweet Sunday♥ Here in my little place Sunday has awoken. A cloudy sky kinda day, but nevertheless a day oozing with flowers and sweet fabric to put a smile in my day. A day filled with so, so many delightful possibilities.

With my blue hexies for my chaise lounge all stitched together, waiting to play nicely with the other fabrics..........and waiting for me to decide exactly how I am going to tart up my lovely chaise, I have started a new hand stitching, pretty. Now before you chastise me about finishing the hand quilting of Floralicious Delight before embarking on something new and fresh, I have been quilting this week, but I ran out of thread.

I confess, I have fell headlong into temptation yet again. With no portable, on-the-go pretty  to stitch  whilst travelling in the car over hill and down dale, I was wanting to have something to hand stitch. I happened upon a quilt called Sweet Sunday. I have seen this sweet quilt out there in cyberspace for a while and have always wanted to fashion one. Besides, this pretty oozes hexies and vintage embroidered linens......so considering I have a penchant for both hexies and sweet linens that were lovingly stitching by women in a bygone era, this quilt had my name on it. It was kismet. You know I am always up for a new hexie quilt. Why, she who has the most hexie quilts wins! =)

Sweet Sunday is a reworked Candied Hexagons design by Emma Di Stefano, of Treehouse Textiles, though I purchased the paper pieces from Tales of Cloth. This pattern has seven templates, consisting of small hexies, diamonds and triangles, which when pieced together form a large hexie. It is a fabulous quilt to use up all those leftover scraps and embroidered pretties from other projects. I might add at this juncture that I am not going to follow the pattern exactly. It wouldn't be me if I couldn't deviate from the straight and narrow path of patterns to explore other possibilities.

For my birthday, my husband gifted me oodles of Liberty Tana Lawn hankies. He knows his wife very, very well, does my husband. I do not believe I could've received a sweeter gift. For time immemorial I have swooned over Liberty fabrics. Liberty designs have always made my heart skip that little bit faster. It is always easy to pick out a Liberty pattern from a sea of other fabrics. So, with the addition of some Japanese Lawns and perhaps other snippets of scraps languishing in my scrap box, I am going to use the Liberty pretties to fashion my Sweet Sunday quilt. Have you seen the Liberty hankies out and about?? Perish the thought that one would wipe one's runny nose on these Liberty pretties!!

Sweet Sunday is a quilt which will not be rushed. It will be one where I steal a few minutes and stitch here and there; and of course stitch this pretty whilst travelling along in the car. I will piece each tiny piece bit by bit whenever the mood takes me. Another sweet quilt which enables me to dive head first into my many suitcases of embroidered linens which it seems I have been collecting forever. I am always delighted to revisit my plethora of vintage linens. Always delighted to gaze upon the exquisite needlework lovingly stitched in gentler times.  Delighted too, to play with oodles of Liberty fabrics, and once again play with itty bitty snippets of pretty fabrics.

Thank you so much for popping by my little place. May you enjoy a sweet Sunday sprinkled with beauty. As for me, I am off for a lazy Sunday drive with my husband....and a little Sweet Sunday stitching as the picturesque landscape rolls by.

Until the next time...............

    1. 'Tis hard not to love Liberty fabrics, Kay. Each and every pattern is so pretty. I have always said my gorgeous collection of vintage linens is my 'dowry of cloth', an inheritance for my daughters, though I don't think they are as enamoured with them as I. =) Thank you for your lovely thoughts and words, Kay. I hope you are enjoying a fabulous weekend. KimXx

  9. Since discovering your beautiful blog I've been enthralled. I have only ever made one quilt, about 20 years ago. A cheap polycotton log cabin; all by hand as I don't have a sewing machine. You can see it on my blog under 'pretty little things' Despite it cobbled together cheapness it's still going strong and is currently on our bed for the winter. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful quilts. Best, Jane x

  12. I love a project that is portable and your new quilt project sounds perfect! It will be so fun to create each block from all of your lovely fabric - so many choices!! Also, I’m not going to say anything about finishing up one project before starting another. As you know, I always have several things going at one time. Variety is the spice of life, right? I’ve been working on machine quilting my square know quilt and find it more challenging than I’d thought. It’s good to try new things, though. I’ve already purchased my new project and will share it this week before we head off to warmer temperatures for awhile. Enjoy your beautiful world, hear Kim!! Zenda

  26. A wonderful & thoughtful birthday gift of Liberty Tana Lawn Hankies! I did not know there was such a thing. It is a lovely sight to view them swaying merrily in your summer breezes. What fun you will have making one of your pretty projects if you dare to cut into them. It's a good thing to reuse sweet vintage embroideries. Much better than having them stored away in a drawer where no one can appreciate. Hope you enjoyed your Sweet Sunday drive!

I love the little hexies with the stitching, oh how fun that would be to find all those little goodies in the quilt, making it extra special. I hope you enjoyed your drive and the sewing of your sweet quilt!

  32. "I might add at this juncture that I am not going to follow the pattern exactly. It wouldn't be me if I couldn't deviate from the straight and narrow path of patterns to explore other possibilities." This was spot-on to my adage whenever it comes to a pattern. I've gotten myself into hot water when taking classes because I always want to change-up things!! :) Having handwork to do in the car is most definitely a splendid reason for beginning something new. Can't wait to see what you design - you sure do have a good start on things. My grandmother was a master crocheter and when things were dissipated after her death, many of the damaged items were sent to the sale. Oh, how I wish I had those items in my stash even though I'm tickled pink that I've got a nice array of things she made and which I use constantly. Have a great week, Kim.

  33. Sweet Sunday is quite a quilt - and your Liberty is going to be perfect. Of course you have to change it up; that's a given. I once signed up help a designer make sure her pattern was correct. I realized that's the worse decision ever! I can't do a quilt just like someone else. I don't want to make a copy. I must put my own spin on it. Your spin on things is just wonderful. I love it.

  34. birthday?? did we know about this birthday?? wish you a happy birthday??, i cannot remember...

the zig-zag clothes line, the colorful clothes pins and the fabric...oh the fabric, everything is just precious!! i completely understand you starting a new project that is portable. i always have to have something i can work on in the car!!

sweet sunday, a day that can not be rushed, a quilt that should not be rushed!!!

    1. It's hard for me to pick a favourite embroidery, Dixie...I love them all...BUT....if I had to choose, there is a smile in my heart when I look at the pretty grape hyacinths, as my beautiful mum stitched it many, many years ago. Every time I look at her stitcheries they make me smile as they are filled with many sweet memories. I don't have many heirlooms of hers, so this is special. Though of course, those beautiful ladies come very close. Thank you for your sweet visit, lovely lady. Kim Xx

  37. Kim - you never need to apologize for starting another delightful project, especially when it is backlit by your vibrant flowers and gardens. I am in love with your vintage collection - I really must do more of this type of embroidering - it takes me back to a gentler age. And how blessed you are to have a hubby that knows you well! Enjoy the rest of your week!

  39. Hi Kim! Did you get my email about the Jolly Postman? I was just wondering if you wanted to play along. It just means receiving him in the mail, continuing his story and mailing him back to me. You'd be the last of 7 or so stops (he would come to you from Ireland). No worries at all if you don't want to! xo
Wow! Those fabrics! Drool! Gorgeous goings on at your patch!

  40. Hello Kim,

Oh my goodness what a delightful project this one will be. I was excited to see your sweet peas in bloom. They just don't grow well if at all for me. What seed do you use? Of course your climate would be perfect for growing them rather than the sunny dry wheatbelt of Western Australia.

    Have fun stitching.
    Bev.

  41. I didn't realize Liberty made hankies - how wonderful - and even more wonderful that your DH 'gets' you and picked something that would be so very perfect for you. And don't feel badly about starting a new project because isn't there an old saying that variety is the spice of life?
