Hello, lovely lovelies, lovely friends♡ A new Sunday...a new month...has drifted in, here at my little home. June! Just wow! I suppose that with the speed this year is hurtling along, it will be the season of 'goodwill to all men (and women)' before we know it. =) Ahh.....goodwill to all men; now there's a thought!
June. Winter. Ho-hum. The garden is rather glum looking. The trees are grasping onto the last of the autumn leaves but soon the trees will be bare, sculptural silhouettes against the sky. As there's not a flower in sight in my garden I once again pilfered some proteas from my lovely friend, Trish's, garden. I don't think these bushes have been 'pruned' since this time last year. =)
Down here in my wintry world, another week or two.....or is it three, of slow, repetitious hand stitching. I've been continuing Trippin' around the world in fabric squares; but what I'm chatting about today is I've begun hand stitching a new EPP hexie quilt. A new quilt dancing in a jumble of hexies in myriad Liberty Tana Lawn patterns and colours.
Calming, slow stitching, but surprisingly not monotonous, through the days and some evenings while Old Man Winter begins his thing. As I stitched I've followed the low winter sun around on those days when the sun appears, settling deep down into any number of comfy chairs, in any number of rooms, basking in the warmth of the sunbeams. Though winter is certainly not my favourite season I must admit the sunshine beaming through the large picture windows of my home is one of life's joyous things. And, of course, on those rather chilly winter days, sitting in front of the fire is my place of choice.
I first chatted about this quilt earlier in the year when the rhododendrons and roses were sashaying in the garden.
This quilt is a surprise for my daughter's birthday, which is at the end of August; so I'd better pull my finger out and get a hurry on. My daughter has a love of Liberty patterns which equals my own. Would you believe she has a love affair with florals as well?? Mmm...who would've thunk it, that a daughter of mine might have a penchant for florals. I wonder who she takes after?? I'm sure I have no clue. =)
This quilt will be lap size with scrappy Liberty hexies dancing all over. Mind you, the hexies won't be stitched where they fall as some consideration is needed to ensure that each hexie plays nicely with the others. Sadly, I don't have a gazillion Liberty fabrics from which to choose so much omphaloskepsis will be needed.
I will continue stitching my Liberty pretties this evening, joying in the feel of the tana lawn that is Liberty, and each gorgeous print. Have a lovely Sunday lovely lovelies, lovely friends, and please, delight in many a joy which will cause you to smile♡
Until the next time......

ReplyDeleteOh your floral fabrics are scrumptious! Your daughter is going to LOVE it! Fantastic and she takes after her father--LOL. I bet she's the spitting image of you. Happy stitching. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Kim
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty fabrics, I also love Liberty fabric. Looking forward to seeing the completed quilt.
Have a great week.
Best wishes Kay cxx
Kay, have you ever visited the Liberty store in London?? I would think I had died and gone to heaven if I did. I can just imagine the floor to ceiling shelves filled with bolts of gorgeous fabrics that abound. I'm afraid I could do serious damage to my purse there. =) Enjoy a great week, lovely Kay. Thank you for visiting. Kim Xx
DeleteYes, I am lucky enough to have visited Liberty on many occasions. It is a very wonderful old building. The fabric is amazing. Xx
DeleteOk Kim. You taught me a new word today….omphaloskepsis! I had to look up what it means….navel gazing. Hmmm. I will have to try to use that in a conversation or two this week!
ReplyDeleteYour Liberty hexie quilt will bring warmth and sunshine to your wintery world. Do you ever get much snow where you live or is it just cold and blustery?
Take care and stay cozy. Gail at the cozy quilter.
The fabrics are so beautiful! Enjoy your stitching!
ReplyDeleteLove the flowers, proteas. I’d never heard of them. So interesting. The quilt for your daughter is going to be gorgeous. Can’t wait to see it grow!
ReplyDeleteThe Liberty fabrics are so good! We are going to London in September and I hope to get to the Liberty store.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, your daughter is going to love this wonderful floral quilt. I send you heat and sun from the South of France, and flowers of course ;) Hugs.
ReplyDeleteI must purchase some Liberty fabrics for a future quilt. They are so cheerful. Enjoy your stitching.
ReplyDeleteWhat an uplifting delight to the eye, Kim! Those beautiful Liberty floral hexies give the lie to winter closing in on your part of the world; why, they’re the perfect vibe for our Northern Hemisphere long, sunny days and summer gardens! You’re right about this year flying by, though. So much turmoil in the wider world keeps one off-balance; waiting for the next crisis to unfold certainly distorts the feeling of normal time passing. The beauty you create in fabric and yarn, homemaking and flower-arranging, is just the respite sensitive souls need on a Sunday visit to see what you’ve been up to! Hugs, NancyO.
ReplyDeleteYour Liberty hexies are just gorgeous, Kim! Your daughter is going to love this - of course she loves florals just like her mom. Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteOK, you got me with that big word, I just had to look it up! I presumed it meant something to do with eyes, looking or seeing, but no, " navel gazing". Or, in a nicer term, achieving a trance like state of extreme self absorption! As we do, while concentrating on our stitching. Thanks for the laugh.
ReplyDeletelovely!!! happy birthday to your august baby girl - my august baby is a NOT a girl, he's not all that fond of florals and he is NOT going to receive a quilt for his birthday - but his sister, my little december baby, might...
ReplyDeleteThe protea flowers are wonderful and your liberty hexies are gorgeous , enjoy sitting in the sun beams.
ReplyDeleteSeguro que con tu buen gusto encontrarás la combinación perfecta para todos esos maravillosos hexágonos.
ReplyDeletePreciosas Proteas. BESICOS.
Oh it is looking just wonderful, such pretty fabrics for sure, she will so love this quilt for sure :) My daughter did not take after me, she is an artist like her dad.
ReplyDeleteYou've certainly found a delightful way of filling your winter days with bright and cheerful flower hexies. What a wonderful birthday gift that will be for your daughter.

Hello Kim, I absolutely love everything I see in your photos!!! The fabrics, the colours and patterns! Magnificent!
ReplyDeleteLJ here. Lovely hexies but your tea cup is lovely, too. I love that the cup has flowers in the inside; that way you can "see" the inside mostly. :) And...the strawberries are wonderful, too. Which makes me realize that I can't even get real strawberries again this year. There are a "few" U-pick hours but they don't work at all for me. I want to pick up the strawberries I need. :(
ReplyDeleteLJ here. I forgot to say that you should take pictures of the scrubs (greenery) for the proteas. Maybe you've done that before - I don't remember and I'd love to know where/how they grow. Do the scrubs stay in place? Do they die back in winter? Do you have to replant them each year? So many questions...!!!!
ReplyDeleteDear Kim, we are harvesting strawberries right now, while it’s winter where you are... but with your beautiful, colorful fabric and that lovely project for your daughter, the winter will fly by—especially with a nice hot cup of tea... the hexies look wonderful. I hope you really enjoy your sewing.
ReplyDeleteSending you a warm hug, Viola
I'd be very suspicious of anyone who didn't have a love for liberty florals, they are irresistible. I so enjoy your colorful world, Kim.

“Oh Kim, your Liberty hexies are pure joy. The way you describe stitching through winter sunshine and cozy firesides feels like a storybook. This quilt for your daughter is already overflowing with love — every tiny floral seems to dance. Even in your glum winter garden, you still manage to fill the world with beauty. Wishing you many more peaceful, sun‑soaked stitching moments.”
ReplyDeleteFinally catching up on some blog reading and going through your posts. It always makes me feel so happy when I look at your photos Kim. All that Liberty is so beautiful! xx
ReplyDeleteSuch a cheerful and beautiful little quilt you are making for your lucky daughter! Your strawberry jam pots are delightful, too. I forget that it is winter 'down under', but it sounds like you are making the most of it, sitting in the sunbeams and in front of the fire. We are having near-winter temperatures here in the Pacific northwest - we call it 'Junuary'! Brrrr! The gardens are sulking and so am I. Stay cozy! xx K
