More Trippin' ♡

Hello lovely lovelies; lovely friends♡ How was your week?? It seems another week hurtled by filled with too many 'WHAT THE....??!!.' I'll let you fill in the ellipsis with your own word/words! Oh, to wake up to a world, a day; where no idiocy, no evil, has occurred.

I feel strange chatting about the pleasant week I've enjoyed, as yet again, ambivalent emotions co-exist, sitting on both my shoulders. It's a fact of life these days, isn't it??

But, it was a pleasant week  just moseying around here at home. Mostly  reading, hand stitching and unpicking said hand stitching.......walks in the garden, snippety snipping blooms.

Ahh...."when the world wearies and societies fail to satisfy, there is always the garden" Minnie Aumonier. I'm with Minnie!

We did go out for a day in celebration of my birthday which was pleasant; and a lovely afternoon was enjoyed with my sister from another mother; yet again passing the time drinking tea and eating cake. Knocks at the door where delivery men delivered bunches of flowers; charcuterie delicacies. Oh, and said delicacies were delish. Pete and I snacked on a curated selection of cured meats, cheeses, fruits, nuts, crackers, condiments and chocolates. Ain't birthdays grand!!??

This coming week is the last week of January. How quickly this month has passed by. January, a month where down here the air is thick with the sweet fragrance of roses, sweet peas, buddleias.....all swirling around in a delicious potpourri of intoxicating aromas. The air is deafened too, with cicadas chorusing to their lady loves.  It is a sound synonymous with an Aussie summer.

My sweet Riley gifted me a darling little book for Christmas. It's title is Little Bee's Year Of Blooms. It's a book where on each page interesting insects explore the neighbourhood in search of which flower is flowering, in the quest of extracting pollen. A sweet little book. I'm accumulating a little library of sweet books gifted by my grandbabies♡ Mmm......what to buy Granny?? Why, a book, of course♡

Did you enjoy a little stitching this week?? I did. More squares were added to my TRTW quilt.  The thought did cross my mind that when I say I'm trippin' around the world with all my squares....round and round and round, you might think I'm a tad crazy, confused even.... a gal 'trippin' with hallucinogenic drugs, perhaps?? Nope. I've never had the need, nor desire to 'do' drugs. Indeed, I've always had a healthy fear of chemical substances. I'm just trippin' on love and sunshine; and 2" squares going round and round and round. =)

This week I stitched the floral Liberty-like fabric to the quilt and a green and white polka dot fabric, also. I'm now adding  ditsy yellow and mauves florals; together with a purple and white polka dot, and a pretty Tilda fabric, too. Purples and yellows do dance rhythmically together. I'll continue some fabric trippin' today in celebration of all things slow stitching. With each round more fabric is needed. Thus far, so good, but I have a feeling I'm going to need to go a little fabric shopping. Damn! I did want to make a dent in my stash. C'est la vie!

So, another Sunday of trying to chat about all things pleasant while an evil regime endeavours to destroy the rule of law, due process, morality, ethics, decency, goodness, integrity, kindness..... Let me say to those of you who are living in the middle of this dystopia, that this gal way, way down here, at the bottom of the world, thinks you are  'just so very grand'♡ Keep on keeping on♡ Take care, lovely lovelies, lovely friends♡

Until the next time......

  1. Youve been trip, trip tripping alright, with needle, thread and pretty fabric. Isn't your lovely quilt top growing so nicely. As you say, we quilters stay away from the other sort of tripping, no need at all when we can create beautiful things with our hands, and smell the flowers! Such a sweet book your little Riley gave you, I'm sure you will be reading the story to her when she comes to stay for a while. Happy birthday wishes, such fun eating delightful things, and sharing it with your sister. I have a younger sister from another father, and she has been especially attentive since my Robin passed away.

  2. A delightful post full of pretties to brighten my day. Well, it is night here, but you still brighten the mood. Lovely to see your quilt coming together with all the beautiful fabrics. Also nice to see the flowers when it is so cold and icy here. Happy Birthday to you - such sweet gifts from your dear ones. Hope this year all your wishes come true.
Thank you for your well-wishes, too. It is a dark time, for sure. Hugs xo

  3. Looking absolutely gorgeous Kim and that little book looks so lovely. Thank goodness the ghastly man has rolled back on some of the apalling things he has said but then you can't trust anything he says! Lets hope for a better week and keep on sewing. xx

  6. Dear Kim, a Happiest Birthday to you. It sounds like you had a wonderful day and got spoiled thoroughly! Yes another week just flew by, love the book with the flowers and bugs 🐛 in them. Maybe they will send you down a rabbit hole with an eye spy garden exploring quilt… where a world exists with wee little folk and the 🐞 that live and work in a garden 🪴

  7. Happy Birthday, Kim!! So nice to receive such lovely gifts!!
    Enjoy them all...;))))
[and....Yes, we are trying not to think that we are grouped
along with those intent on destroying our democracy here by everyone
else in the world. That undercurrent gets worse and worse each and
    every day....S I G H ]
I do think your "Trip" is coming together beautifully--that green
    dotty fabric works so well...
We are awaiting the first flakes of what has been predicted to be a
"Snow-ma-geddon" event for us: 12"-18" here followed by freezing sleet...
All tucked up here with what we need...hugs, Julierose

  8. Happy birthday! Sounds like you were celebrated and loved! While your garden is blooming, we are in the midst of a polar vortex and snowstorm. I’m staying inside to sew today.
Your trip around the world is so pretty! A little fabric shopping sounds like fun!! Gail at the cozy quilter.

  11. A belated Happy Birthday to you, dear Kim. But isn't giving flowers to you a bit like sending coals to Newcastle? It's lovely to see your TATW in such spring-like colors while I watch snow falling. It's predicted to be at least 12" and maybe more. We've also had frigid temperatures with a lower of minus 5F on Saturday morning. Many of us here in the US despair of the horror going on, but feel helpless. Yet, others cheer the evildoers on. It's bewildering.

  12. Happy Birthday! I am enjoying watching your Trip around the World grow. I am heartsick and heartbroken with what is happening in my country. I fear for the future of my grandkids. I don't understand those people who still support the orange man and his cronies. It is always good to know that citizens of other countries stand with those of us who are also outraged.

  13. Happy Birthday, Kim! Sounds like you've had a lovely week, and you deserve it! I try to escape from the madness whenever I can - we need that. Stitching on your sweet TATW is the perfect way to do that!

  14. a very (belated) happy birthday to you!!! i should have guessed that you are a January baby - we're kinda awesome, aren't we?!?

the bright sun in a frigid sky is the opposite of what the weather here should be - dark times shouldn't have such a brilliant blue sky and sparkling white snow ... maybe it's the Great Spirit letting me know that this, too, shall pass?

  21. LJ here. Belated Happy Birthday. We had to get a new computer and I've struggled with the NEW ONE. Guess it has to do with being 'older' and finding that new things are just not as easy as they used to be. :) Hope you and Pete had a great day and that other things are good. I have lots of sadness each day because of donald but I try not to listen and read all the -------- but sometimes it's just too much in my face. :( Thank you for all your wonderful words, pictures, and stories. You make my life so much better.

  22. Looks like you celebrated your special day in grand style and so you should (even to the extent of getting two cards from me!!).
I was excited to take note of 'The Look' by Michelle Obama on your shelf and am heading off to the library to see if they have a copy. I've read 'Becoming' and 'The Light We Carry' and enjoyed them thoroughly. She is someone I truly admire (Barack too).
I was thinking green would be a nice addition to your trippin' quilt and you must have thought so too. After all, greenery is part of flowers isn't it.
