Well hello, lovely lovelies, lovely friends♡ After a wonderful holiday in San Francisco I'm back home in the Land Down Under. Actually, I've been home for yonks. I had the most wonderful time away hanging out with 'my' little man, Lenox. Oodles of cuddles. Oodles of snuggles. But. Goodness me. It has taken me many weeks to recover. Me thinks this Granny caper with newborns is for grannies who are much younger than I. I came home for a wee rest. =)
Oh, how babies quickly change into the next little stage. When I first arrived Lenox was restless so there was many a time I would send my daughter to bed and I would settle him, rocking him to sleep. After all he is a newborn and getting used to this world he has entered. Lenox and I participated in many many moments where secret granny/grandbaby communication transpired, and I must say it was a joy. In the last couple of weeks of my stay Lenox had become quite the conversationalist in his very own baby language and charming all with his smiles. So, so very sweet.
Upon arrival at San Fransisco I did wonder if my progress through Customs and Border Protection would be thwarted. I did wonder if they would seize my phone and see how the land lay re my thoughts on all things America and one Donald J Trump; but all went smoothly. Quicker than quick, too. I'm guessing they haven't read my blog. Probably a good thing. =)
The weather in San Francisco was magical. Warm sunny days where I would at times sit on the deck and knit and drink tea, soaking up all the glorious rays of sunshine. Ahh....the wonderful healing powers of sunshine. Alas, I've been brought back to earth with a freezing thud, as Old Man Winter has settled in for the duration where at times he blusters and rages day and night. And I might add Old Man Sun is loathe to show his face.
Whilst in San Francisco although I spent a lot of time at home, we did manage to squeeze in some days of exploring quaint towns by the sea; eating out at fabulous restaurants. Every visit to San Francisco, a drive over The Golden Gate Bridge is a must as there are always quaint towns over the other side to explore. And.......each time I visit San Francisco a visit to the shop Anthropologie is mandatory. This store is so my vibe. I love wandering around this fabulous shop. My eyes ricochet from one beautiful pretty to another. Always having an interest in fashion, design and fabric I never cease to be delighted with the array of clever designs and beautiful fabrics hanging from the coat hangers. Oh......the florist section........ 'tis to die for. Love, love, love Anthropologie!
On the drive home from our little shopping expedition we encountered hordes of people lining the streets for the 'No Kings Day' protest. Well, of course to show our complete concurrence with the dissidents my daughter honked the horn like there was no tomorrow. You know...........to metaphorically drown out those squeaky tanks that rolled along at the wannabe king's birthday parade, and the preposterous aggrandisement he bangs on about. I'm still giggling at those pictures. I'm guessing the Grand Poobah wasn't impressed at the casualness of the troops marching. I'm guessing he would much prefer a parade of those seen in North Korea or Russia. You know the ones, where if one's goose step is out of sync one might find themselves face planted on the pavement after having being mysteriously pushed from a ten storey window. Goodness....he is a fool.....and a tool! He is rather genuine at being fake.
But.......with all waggishness and facetiousness aside the wannabe king and dictator causes America....the world to become more dangerous as he huffs and puffs and blusters through every new day.....every new week. Goodness. The drama! The corruption! The evil! Enough said!
While I was away I knitted and finished two woollies for Lenox; a cardigan and a vest. Remember the little crochet granny square pretty I fashioned a couple of months ago?? Yes, that was a gift for my wee Lenox.
Hi Kim
ReplyDeleteLovely to have you back. Have so missed your blog and wonderful photos.
How wonderful for you to spend time with baby Lenox,
Love Riley’s cottage can only imagine how long that took to make, it is so cute.
I’m sure she will have hours of fun.
Think the new quilt is a great idea.
Best wishes Kay c xx
Hello lovely Kay, Goodness, time has marched on during my little holiday from my blog, hasn't it?? 'Tis lovely to have you stop by and bless my afternoon with your sweet words. I hope all is well with you. I hope you are enjoying your hot summer weather. Could you send some of the summery weather down to me; 'tis freezing down here. =) Have a wonderful week, Kay. Thank you for your sweet visit. Kim Xx
DeleteCongratulations on the new grandbaby, Kim. I am so glad you were able to spend time with him and get all of the cuddle time you wanted. There is nothing like a grandchild is there? The little cardigans are adorable and I adore the table cottage cubby- how magical. Enjoy your week . Hugs.
ReplyDeleteLovely to read your post and hear about where you have been and what you have been doing. I have heard of people being refused entry to the US because of their social media posts.....worrying. Great to spend time with Baby Lenox and Riley's house is gorgeous. Enjoy your flowery crochet, it looks very pretty.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I was lying in my bed this morning contemplating a quiet Sunday morning with, among other things, some blog reading. Into my head popped Kim - I wonder how she is and when will we hear from her again. Lo and behold, the first blog on my reading list was yours! Wonderful to have you back. What a lovely trip you had to meet your new family member. And some really cute knitting for him to wear. So glad you had a good time, and were able to add to the dissidence! The ghastly man is in UK at the moment - had he been nearer to my home, heaven forbid, I would have been out there with a banner.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely gift for Riley and two years old already! Beautiful floral fabrics and crochet, a lovely project. xx
Welcome back Kim !
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great time with Lenox/family in San Francisco. The cardigan and vest are lovely !
The Riley's house is super cute with beautiful details ! Granny Kim is a dedicated grandma with talent :)
Have a wonderful week with your new project !
Hug

So happy to see your post this morning! Your family is growing—how wonderful to have so much time to hold wee Lennox. I can’t believe Riley is two. Their granny has been busy making gifts for them. The sweaters are going to keep Lennox warm when colder weather comes along. Riley’s house is so cute with all those wonderful details. I love the birds, dog, cat and flowers. This will bring her hours of imaginative playtime. Well done granny! You have found the perfect flowery project to while away your time as winter rages outside. As for the orange man, I’m in complete agreement with you. Gail at the cozy quilter
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful little table top house! I LOVE it! We use to make little houses as a kid out of grandma's quilts. Glad kids still use their play imaginations these days instead of grabbing technology to play. Nicely done. It will be loved and hopefully passed down.
ReplyDeleteLittle houses formed from grandma's quilts; how fabulous! Kids love cubbies, don't they?? Kids' imaginative play is always delightful to watch. My daughter has told me Riley loves her little cottage. The cat loves it too. She has taken up residence. =) Kim Xx
DeleteSounds like you had a fabulous visit with Lennox and family;))) How wonderful to be able to settle him into his entry into your family...
ReplyDeleteCute sweater you've fashioned and that little popover clubhouse is just adorable. I will be looking forward to seeing the crocheted squares come together...so pretty
Welcome home hugs, Julierose
thank you for doing your share of honking the horn against the orange pumpkin while you were in the states - we need all the help we can get to protest. It sounds like you had a wonderful but tiring time visiting your daughter and the new little one. Glad you had not trouble getting through the airport. I love the store you mention as well but do not have it close to me.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're back and I'm sure that you were glad to get home despite enjoying the family time and oodles of baby snuggles. It's wonderful to go away but I sometimes think it's equally wonderful to come home.
ReplyDeleteI really wanted to make one of those 'houses' for our grandies but never got around to it and now they're too old for it. Isla might still play with it but not for long. I would so love to make her a dollhouse but shipping it to her would be a huge issue and it wouldn't likely get there in one piece.
You've reminded me how much I enjoyed making the fusion quilts for our daughters-in-love. If I had the fabrics I would like to make one for myself but then I look at the price of fabric now and I think better of the idea.
I had a big smile on my face when I saw your blog post. Welcome back! I am so glad you got lots of snugggles with Lenox. The sweater and vest you made for him are wonderful. I had never heard of a tabletop cubby before and had to look at your other post to understand how it works. What a wonderful idea! I am sure Riley will have hours of fun in her little cottage. Your Tilda fabric fusion quilt is going to be beautiful. What wonderful fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your assessment of our president. I avoid commenting on my own blog for fear of possible repercussions. I don't want to miss out on my grandchildren growing up. It is a worry. I worry too about DIL's parents who travel to visit thier family members in Taiwan. They have been US citizens for over 40 years, but that doesn't seem to mean much here lately.
How wonderful that you got to spend some quality time with Lenox and help the new Momma get settled in. Riley's cottage is adorable and sure to bring her hours of happiness. Your creativity knows no bounds. I'm also glad you had no issues with entering and exiting the US. Many of us are appalled and frightened by the felon's behavior and outrageous lies. But that's part of their plan, to intimate us into submission. And so much cruelty and suffering in other parts of the world. It is a challenging time for humanity.

Hello, Kim! I'm so glad you had a good trip to San Francisco and even got into a No Kings protest. Love it! I can tell you are a wonderful granny! I don't have the privilege yet, but all my friends tell me it is both wonderful and exhausting, so I think you are doing fine. Those sweaters are amazing and so is Riley's little house. I'm so glad that Riley and Lenox are both thriving!
