Flowers And Hexies.....Hexies And Flowers♡

Hello lovely lovelies♡ So....you have found yourself here again, at my little happy place where there is an abundance of flowers and hexies........and hexies and flowers♡ Boring, (for you) I know......but not so for me. So, so delighted you stopped by♡ I could gaze upon hexie quilts for the rest of my life and never grow tired of them. Yep, I'm a hexie-loving gal. Humour me, allow me to sprinkle yet again, a little, flowery hexie, loveliness into your day......and a vintage pitcher of roses♡♡

It is getting decidedly chilly here. I suppose before not too long, in the wee hours of the morning, Jack Frost will appear earlier than he should ravaging all the summer-loving flowers in one fell swoop, casting his icicles everywhere, burning and killing everything in his path. I just know it. He really should wait until winter, but he never seems to.

The infinitude of vases of flowers have dwindled to but a few each week; though the hydrangeas are beginning to morph into those fabulous autumnal hues that only hydrangeas can do. Every other flower expires and refuses to flower, but the hydrangeas.....well, they have months of beauty left in them yet. But let's not chat about the fabulousness of summer and autumnal hydrangeas.....as that will be for another post.

This week the most ferocious winds thundered their way to my humble abode and all the flowers which once were upright and sashaying in the gentle breeze, are now practically prostrate on the ground. The dahlias are not happy. The roses have disappeared. The sweet peas are nothing but a fallen-over drift of brown mess with a gazillion seed pods doing their thing, producing little gems of seeds which will be collected and used for next spring. I will leave quite a few seed pods to burst so that they will fall to the ground, where they will germinate and sprout once again. Flowers are truly genius how they keep reproducing flowers year in, year out from microscopic seeds. Truly fascinating. 'Tis a miracle, really. The cosmos still bloom brightly and happily, though they are a little closer to the ground as well. I shall have to prop them up a bit. The begin of the begin of the season which I loathe,  is not too far away. All the flowers are telling me so. =)

Summer has gone! It was a strange season. Oh, there were a handful of hot days, but mostly I walked around with long sleeves...blouses, shirts, dresses.....and jeans and overalls....and even cardies. There were only a few days where I thought sitting in an ice bath would be a very good idea. The garden though performed like it always does, and spectacularly so regardless of the cooler summer. But now, everything has the beginning of a woebegone look; preparing for the colder months. Amazing how in only a space of a few weeks a garden which was blooming profusely is now....well....rather blah.  Don't mind me.......I always feel a little ho-hum at this time of the year when summer winds down and the flowers return to the earth. But.......there's autumn first, isn't there?? The season of glorious autumnal hues and mosaic carpets of crunchy leaves to be enjoyed. I must not be greedy though, for I know some of you way up there are still experiencing horrible storms. Oh my goodness......when will they end??!! One would think you have had enough. It is truly your time to enjoy the beauty that is Spring.

About those roaring winds which I shivered through this week. Such penetrating winds, that if they could've, would've uprooted one's house from the foundations of rock on which it stands, swirled round and round. Didn't Jesus say "build your house upon the rock"?? Very sound advice. But I digress. =))

Regardless of the chilly temperatures outside my sewing room window and the onset of a feeling of malady the thought of winter can cast upon me,   I fashioned more happy and colourful flower hexies. No matter what the day, the season presents outside my window there is always the joy of playing and stitching.....petting colourful and happy fabrics. For, here in my little place happy colour hugs me all day long. We who create, play with and pet pretty fabrics, slowly and meditatively enjoy hand stitching, or indeed whirl away on our sewing machines; always find joy, contentment in the moments of our day, as we fashion something of beauty, don't we??

This week, I dived deep into my fabrics and found yet more fabrics where flowers abound. Once again teeter-tottering towers of hexie petals, nearly toppling over, formed. Another row of hexie flowers, both across and down the quilt, sprouted, finding their place, jostling for space among the other flowers. My Flower Meadow is slowly flourishing♡ My Flower Meadow is slowly blooming in a myriad of colour and pattern♡ Such a joyful, little flowering meadow♡

As I sat in my sewing room quietly stitching away a pitcher of roses sprinkled sweet fragrance upon me. The last pitcher, or indeed, vase of roses me thinks....until late spring comes around once again.  Such sweet aroma about me while I stitched. The petals falling from the roses still beautiful, still fragrant, just laying where they fall. Love, love, love a puddle of gathered rose petals. Potpourri at it's very best. Of course, I will remove these delightful gems when they metamorphose into a pongy mess, but for now I will just let them be. Why, roses and itty bitty hexie petals are the very best of friends♡

It really doesn't take much to sprinkle contentment into my day. I will always look for something that brings joyful moments even when the day can be a little glum......a little stormy. A pretty pitcher of roses, hexie petals, and hexie flowers will do it for me every time. Oh.....and of course a visit to my little place by lovely you♡ You always make me smile♡ Me thinks I might go and play with some hexie petals and later this evening visit Kathy's place to see what other pretties are showcased. I am going to embrace this lovely Sunday; for the sunshine is hugging me with it's warmth. On days such as today it's easy to push that nagging, little pesky thought that cooler, greyer days are on their way, into the dark recesses of my muddly mind. Have a lovely Sunday♡  Sending a little flowery, hexie love your way♡

Until the next time..............

    1. Hello Elizabeth, how lovely to have you visit my little place.
Blogger has done some strange things of late. The garden here this summer has not flowered for as long as in other years. The cosmos took forever to come into flower. How unfortunate your garden didn't amount to much this summer. The weather is odd everywhere, I think. As for the fabric, how very kind of you to think of me. I most certainly will not say no to a pretty fabric with frogs, dragonflies and flowers all over it. I will email you my address. Thank you so much for gifting my day with your sweet visit and lovely words. Kim Xx

  2. Such a pretty set of pics.I’m actually looking forward to lovely autumn days. I’m not a lover of heat really. It has been a rather mild summer here on our part of the NSW coast. Only a couple of really hot hot days. You’ve inspired me to start stitching hexies again. I will check back often to see how you have set your lovelies together. The explosion of colour is actually very calming to me. Thank you for sharing your beautiful stitching.
    Blessings Gail.

    1. Oh, I do love to take a pretty happy snap, or two. =) I think it's been a cooler summer all the along the lower eastern part of Australia this year. I love a hotter summer.....it warms my poor ol' bones. Though in saying that, I don't like the high humidity. Hot, dry heat suits me. Here in Tassie it never gets as hot as on the mainland, but a little hotter would be good. It's strange isn't it....a quilt with an explosion of colour and pattern such as this shouldn't be calming, but like you, I find it restful. It's lovely to have you visit once again, Gail. I have wondered from time to time how you are going there on the coast of NSW. I have wondered what pretties you are stitching....if you were playing with Liberty fabrics. Have a beautiful week. Hopefully you will find some moments to enjoy a little hexie stitching. Thank you for blessing my day with your sweet visit. Kim Xx Kim Xx

  3. Well I love hexies too and most especially floral ones! You do have the most amazing collection of floral fabrics. It is all looking just too amazing.
Well we had snow here this week which managed to flatten all the lovely daffodils. However, it soon disappeared as the very next day we had 12 degrees and rain! Very strange weather as after another couple of cool days we are now expecting 14 today! Looking forward to getting away this week for what I hope will be a week of sunshine and warmth. Have a lovely week. xx

  6. An other beautiful post Kim !
I'm not tired of your beautiful hexies :) You can continue to sew them ;)
And if your flowers suffer from the wind, they will bloom again one day...
Spring is coming here... Cosmos doesn't like the climate here, sadly...
Have a shinny day and week !

  7. I know that the coming seasons are not your favorites, but at least you have all those pretty floral hexies to surround you. I enjoy seeing them hanging on the clotheslines. A note to Gail and you, your blog is in my archive list, but also doesn't update each week. It hangs out at the bottom with a few others for some reason. I have yet to figure out what makes it different from those blogs that rise to the top when they post.

  8. Good morning from a cold, snowy winter here in Canada. Is it cold, yes. Spring according to the groundhog should be arriving early, so we wait with baited breath for it to arrive. The seeds are waiting to be planted, dahlia bulbs to be planted, violas, flow and so many more flower seeds to grow. Maybe they will be started indoors to plant into the flowerbeds when the risk of frost is past?… We had a similar summer you described in 2015. Since then our summers have been so much hotter and we have days when we can not go outside it is too hot. They say La Niña is finally over and we are in for a roller coaster ride with weather swings until true spring finally arrives. Go with the flow, enjoy days when we can just be and have those good days that arrive without any fanfare. Those always are the best ones.

    1. One has to go with the flow, doesn't one, especially concerning the weather. I would love a few of those days where it's too hot to go outside.....but then my flowers would die, so perhaps not. =) I love those 'just be' days; they are the best. Enjoy your week. Hopefully the groundhog was right on the money and Spring is not too far away for you. Thank you so much for stopping by, Maggie. Kim Xx

  9. More gorgeous flowers and more gorgeous hexies! In the spring here, I will buy a few more hibiscus plants and keep them indoors for blooming throughout the year. Right now, they are blooming for me and I get to enjoy their beauty until other spring flowers start to put on their show.

  10. I don't know what is wrong with the blogs lately so many every time you go in to leave a comment you have to change your name back to what it correctly is instead of anonymous! And this is more than your blog - I notice in the comments that before me there are a lot of anonymous and that is why. Your flowers and hexies are all so pretty but it sounds like you had a horrible cold right at the end of your flower season. Here we will be beginning our growing season but we are getting last minute colds that will make some people wish they hadn't started to plant so early! Your in Tasmania right so you get colder faster than Australia?

  11. Gorgeous hexies! We still have lots of snow even though spring is just around the corner. Soon mud season will be upon us.

  12. Your flowers - both hexie and from the garden - are so lovely, Kim! I love all the pretty color. I'm sorry for you that the colder weather is coming, but sooo ready for Spring to come here!

  13. Enjoy the end of summer. Here in Canada we are heading into spring. Happy stitching on your hexies. A hexie quilt was the first one I ever did.

  14. As always visiting your little world each week brings a smile to my face. Your flowers and hexies are gorgeousness personified. You are moving into winter and we are going through all these atmospheric storms. We have another flood warning until Wednesday, though I am not near anything in danger of flooding myself. My hydrangeas are naked right now but getting some leaf formation at the tips. The only thing blooming right now is the camellias. My garden is a mess with weeds I need to sort out as soon as the rain stops. Have a great week Kim!

  15. Your photos are a feast for the eyes Kim, I never get sick of looking at your beautiful hexies and just think you will have them to sustain you through those awful months of which we shall not name haha. I hope the wind did no damage, we have had a week of snow and bitter cold weather and I'm hoping that Spring will make it's presence felt sooner rather than later, Have a great week. xx

  16. I ADORE all your pretties - from the hexies, to the roses, the pitcher (Yes, I noticed that it looked antique.), the pictures, the colors. You are a master when it comes to colors and shapes - especially hexies. :) Having all those flowers - real and in fabric - are totally wonderful. What a fortunate person you are to have such beauty all round. Some (particularly in the mountains) are having some doosies of winter storms here in the US. We've had some storms but they haven't been awful - 3 to 5 inches is just fine especially when the streets and the sidewalks are staying clear - a sign that spring/summer is on the way. A couple of years ago we were biking in Minnesota in mid-April; ooooh, could we be ever so blessed to have that happen again this year. Ah well, May will be just fine for biking, too. Have a special week - I am sure you'll have more and more to show us next time.

  17. Your Rose's are beautiful, as are the pretty floral hexies. Autumn has arrived here too, it's getting a little chilly in the early mornings. And much darker too.

  21. I for one like to see your hexies, your "garden" is growing so beautifully. Your pictures here are always so wonderful, they brighten up the day, specially on grey day over here. I always think it is so sad when the autumn comes and those lovely beauties die off. I know, I know - that's life and they will be beautiful again next year :-) I suspect your sewing room is full of colour until then.

  24. Winter is hanging on here for sure and the sun has been hiding but tomorrow is my birthday and we are supposed to have sunshine for the first time in a few days so I am thankful for that, even though it won't be warm.
You have such lovely flower hexies to keep you full of happiness as old man winter makes his way once again, I hope you have a nice mild Autumn to enjoy first!

  26. Even with the autumn closing in, you bring the sunshine inside with your pretty stitchery, Kim! I just love all the lovely fabrics and colors mimicking the summer flowers quickly fading away. Your photos are so sweet showing the progress of your hexies with the botanical background. Love the vintage pitcher with the roses, too. It's always a little sad when summer says goodbye, but being cozy indoors while creating beautiful things is the perfect remedy. Especially with tea. Sending hugs xo K

I think most of us are more than ready for winter to end, I certainly know I am. Even though winter isn't your happiest of seasons you can console yourself with wonderful hexie flowers and dream of spring. You, my friend, are the ray of sunshine that helps me get through our miserable winter!

  31. I have been away in FL for the last month and just catching up on your posts. I, and I'm sure many others will never tire of photos of your flowers and your hexies. Like you, I find it hard to reisist buying floral fabrics, even though I will never use all that I already have. Enjoy the fading days of summer. Just think, you'll soon be able to sip some tea in the fernery, while cuddled up in a flowery quilt and dream of the flowers to come next year.
