Blue and Green Should Always Be Seen

Hello lovely lovelies♡ Welcome to my little place♡ 'Tis Sunday again, which meant a lazy kinda day. A very early, morning stroll through the garden was enjoyed, picking a flower here and there until my basket burgeoned with blooms. My pickings today were mock orange blossoms (oh....the fragrance ♡), ixias, hebes, love-in-the-mist, rhododendrons and roses; all plonked artfully arranged into vases. Truly, the fragrances wafting from room to room in my humble abode is divine♡

I spent a good part of my day in my sewing room. As I sat looking outside the windows, the thought occurred to me that the end of spring is nigh and summer will soon be floating in; in a rather relaxed fashion. I always think spring is an explosion of vivid and audacious colours; intoxicating all the senses. Spring always makes me giddy with the continual parade of heady colour and fragrances. I am always a little sad when spring begins to think about making its journey to the northern hemisphere, but the thought of summer waltzing in gently always perks me up. Just the thought that there will soon be a sea of blue hydrangeas everywhere causes me to smile. Throughout the garden the hydrangea leaves are flourishing and little flowers are beginning to peek from behind the leaves. Why, just outside  my sewing window, the hydrangea bushes have grown like topsy. They will be a spectacular sight when all those gorgeous blue mop heads appear. I cannot wait. It will make happy stitching days in my sewing room even happier♡

And....speaking of hydrangeas, let's talk about my little Hydrangea Cobblestones quilt, shall we?? A border was needed, but I was in two minds about two fabrics. A difficult decision as I rather love both. The first choice was a pretty Kona blue which looks lovely, but then I have a pretty green fabric with butterflies flittering allover. Being a gal who rather loves busy, busy, busy swirling everywhere in a quilt, I decided upon the butterfly fabric. It is actually a fabric in the Cottage Bleu line, as is the hydrangea fabric, so of course they would play together beautifully. I am in love with the blue of all the hydrangea cobblestones bordered by the green fabric♡

Do you remember the phrase "blue and green should never be seen without a colour in between?? It is a phrase I have heard all my life, but have never really taken any notice, because throughout all my days of playing on this sweet earth blues and greens have always hit it off fabulously. Together, they dance in rhythmic cadence and have always been soothing to my eyes. Why, here at my little place there is blue and green everywhere. Blue, blue sky and green, green trees. Happy, blue love-in-the-mist, with wispy green leaves.....blue granny bonnets and dainty green leaves.......forget-me-nots smothered in bright green leaves.....and then the queens of the garden, the hydrangeas surrounded by green, green leaves.  But, enough of the nonsensical notion that blue and green together are an aversion; let us have a bo-peep of the progress of  Hydrangea Cobblestones.

Stitching a thin green border around the blue cobblestones, I then stitched the green butterfly fabric to the quilt. To add a little unexpected interest to the border I thought octagon flowers flourishing around the border would look rather spiffy. So, today I have been making stems, leaves and octagon hydrangeas in readiness of appliqueing them to the border. How fun♡

Hopefully when next you visit the hydrangea flowers skipping around the border, will be finished. Love, love, love the blue hydrangea fabric dancing alongside the green with blue butterflies fabric♡ I had the best day today, whipping up a creative storm in my little sewing room. It was one of those perfect,  blue sky, kinda days, where sunbeams brightened the room all day. Thank you for stopping by my little place♡ 'Tis always a delight when you visit♡  May you, this week, look for the beauty in the little moments of the everyday♡ Sending you all a little love♡

Until the next time.............

  4. Those fabrics compliment each other perfectly it's altogether too pretty for words, your photos are always delightful and quite lift the spirits, I'm glad you are enjoying the warm Spring days enjoy each and every one, time passes far too quickly but it's good you have the Summer just around the corner. It's rather cold and bleak here at the moment with a layer of snow and ice. Enjoy your Sunday. xx

  6. Lovely!!! I love blue hydrangea, too. Ours are white here. So many beautiful flowers to feast in your gardens and photos. And I love how your quilt is looking, too, all floral/butterfly good! I love blue and green together.

  7. I adore that butterfly fabric. I have never heard that little rhyme and I certainly wouldn't follow that particular advice. You are enjoying the waning days of spring and here on Long Island we had our first light snowfall. Just enough to dust the bushes and trees. It will be gone before the morning's end most likely. Enjoy stitching those pretty flowers to the border.

  8. I am trying to keep up, really! :-) What a wonderful Sunday in your part of the world, cold again here. But we off to our grandson's birthday bash, so a special day - and there will be CAKE ;-)
As ever I am admiring your choice of fabrics, you have such a wonderful eye for them. I am OK with busy, and never could understand this business with green and blue, lets just follow the nature, she doesn't have any problem with mixing those two colours so perfectly. Enjoy your warm sunshine, it is thermal undies here, LOL!

  11. Whoever decided that blue and green should never be seen must have had a very limited view of both blue and green. Their affinity is abundantly visible in your garden. Your quilt is becoming an oasis of blues and greens. Beautiful!

  12. Around here the saying went "Blue and green should only been together in the washing machine.' I never agreed with that. I love the butterfly fabric you have chosen!

  14. I love seeing your beautiful flowers and hydrangea quilt. I have never heard that phrase about blues and greens should never been seen, and I have never followed it anyway. I am sort of a free soul and do as I like. Thanks for another beautiful visit Kim!

  15. We have occasional snow gently drifting down so seeing your gathering of spring blooms is a nice counterpoint. Blue and green certainly do play well together so I'm glad you chose to use the butterfly fabric in your border and your appliqued flowers will fit right in. Looking forward to seeing the Hydrangea Cobblestones finished bringing magic wherever you choose to use it.

  17. That green print with the butterflies is so pretty, Kim! I think it's perfect with your hydrangeas. So many of the older thoughts about quilting don't make a lot of sense when you begin to try your own ideas! Love the beautiful spring flowers of your garden, too!

  21. As you were describing all those flowers you picked and brought into the rooms of your home I could just imagine the smells as you walk from room to room, bringing the lovely fragrance with you.
I love your idea for the border, the hexagon flowers look lovely.
Yes I agree that blue and green live together in harmony!
    Have a lovely week ahead!

  22. Whoever thought up that saying was crazy! Blue and green are perfect together and the best examples are your hydrangeas and your beautiful quilts. Oh, your blooms are so colorful and lovely! It is finally (almost December) which around is usually cold and dreary. This week is supposed to be relatively warm (60-70 F!) Such a bonus, I'm hoping the trees don't start trying to awaken. What fun you will have in your sewing room this week, creating those dancing hydrangeas while awaiting your real flowers to bloom. Enjoy, dear Kim! Zenda

  24. Always love visiting your cheerful, happy place, Kim. So nice to see all the flowers in their pretty little vases and your sweet sewing room. Your hydrangea hexies prove that blue and green are a match made in heaven. Nature is always proven right. It will be nice to visit you as summer comes your way. Here, it is very cool and gray, but even these subdued colors are beautiful in their own way. Enjoy your lovely spring and pretty stitching. Hugs xo K

  28. I also know this saying ... "Green and blue goes Kasper his wife ..." from my childhood and youth.
It was later recognized that tone in tone goes very well, just as nature shows :-)))) Your hydrangeas are wonderful ... just like
your window curtains - sewn as well as crocheted - on the sun window with a bright blue sky.
Here with us gray on gray and today the first snowflakes ... but the Advent star is shining and we are happy.
Many greetings to you in spring.

  31. Hi Kim, how lovely to be enjoying spring...we are bracing ourselves for cold and snow. I've had to put away my sandals and wear socks, even in the house!!! We used to say that blue and green should never be seen except in the washing machine. I think of that when I wear blue and green :-) thanks for sharing your loveliness with us. Hugs.

  35. Wow Kim, you cannot know what a delight for my eyes your post is today. My hardy hydrangeas have descended into autumn rusts now, an intriguing colour mind you, but not very pretty as such. Pretty hexagons too!

  36. Ahhh... Such colors! I never heard that about blue and green. I think they look great together (and if it is a rule, I broke it all over with my latest quilt! lol).

  42. As far as I'm concerned blue and green are a match made in heaven. After all, doesn't the green of the trees meet the blue of the sky (in other words, heaven)? Whoever coined that phrase was definitely wrong!
Just the thought of orange blossoms - ahhhhh. I haven't sniffed those in so long and how I miss them.
