Home Sweet Homeđź’™

A lovely welcome to my little place♥ It is Sunday afternoon here, and as it seems is the rest of the world; I am spending it in my Home Sweet Home. Home, the very word makes me smile. A most wonderful place to be in these troubled times. Our homes are a safe place, a place of refuge, a sanctuary;  the place where one feels at rest. Sitting here in my humble abode, looking out at the serene, bucolic vignettes outside my picture windows, it's hard to believe the drama that is playing out on the world stage.

As I am a gal who loves her own company and am not really a social butterfly, I rather relish being home. Oh, I love people and I love the conversations and sharing beautiful visits with my friends, but if I have to stay home, then I will enjoy it and appreciate all those pleasurable pursuits that I adore; to while away my day. To be honest, boredom never takes residence here at my little place, nor indeed in me. Boredom and me have never been acquainted, really. There are so many everyday pastimes I take delight in. Though, I am sad that it is the bizarre state of the world that is causing me to stay close to home. I feel sadness for those whose lives have been turned upside down in so many ways by the events that have eventuated over the last month.

On a lighter note, my good husband and I were laughing the other day and decided that if we were never to venture out our front gate ever, ever again, he would happily stay in his garden with spade in hand and me in any number of the pretty rooms in our humble abode, with sewing needle in mine. =)

It is late Sunday afternoon here. A glorious autumn day. Autumn has sprinkled my day with happy beams of sunshine. In the garden the hydrangeas' frocks have been sprinkled with muted autumnal hues; all so very different. Pretty, soft colours are beginning to peek through the layers of petals. Truly, for long flowering beauty through summer till late autumn, there is no more beautiful shrub than the heavenly hydrangeas; but that's just my very humble opinion

I have enjoyed a little Sweet Sunday hand stitching today and intend to do a little more this evening. More hexies of my Sweet Sunday quilt have been stitched. It has been a lovely afternoon, playing with my sweet Liberty fabrics and embroidered linens. I suppose I should have waited longer to begin to stitch these pretty hexies together, but truth be told, I wanted to see them playing nicely together. And, play nicely together they certainly do. Love how all these sweet Liberty fabrics bring out the beauty of the sweet print it is sitting next to. But, Liberty prints always seem to do that, don't they.

I know not what tomorrow will bring; but then, we never know, do we. With each new day it seems there is a new development in all corners of the globe. I can only take one day at a time; the day that I have been given. I choose to see a little beauty in my every day. Difficult sometimes, but it is the essence of my being. I am a gal who loves God. I am a gal who has a simple but deep faith, trying to trust God each day. Does this faith mean that nothing ever bad happens to me?? Most certainly not. I have been a christian since I was fourteen years old. Through the years, the Lord and me have walked through many dark and disturbing times together. Why, more often than not my Heavenly Father has picked me up and carried me, because I could not walk another step. In these bizarre days where there is so much uncertainty  and worry of the unknown, I choose faith over fear. Today, I choose to appreciate the beauty of my little place and enjoy it. I choose to be thankful for the blessing of my Home Sweet Home.

It struck me this week that the virtual world we share, you and I need not experience social isolation in our homes. You and I can visit each other and see what we have been up to or how we are going; how we are travelling (not that we are travelling anywhere soon). We can build one another up, support each other, show random acts of kindness....encourage each other. Once again, this little place called blogland is the sweetest of blessings. May you, as you spend your days in your sweet home, find a little beauty. May you take care and keep well. Bless you, lovely lovelies♥

Until the next time..................

    1. Why not start a new pretty and stitch your hexie as well. That way your little hexie quilt will grow and you will enjoy the other. I am that gal who is always stitching a few pretties at any given time. After all variety is the spice of life. =) KimXx

  2. Dear Kim, what a blessing that you also enjoy it at home, because we are always busy with handicrafts and do not get bored.
Let us trust God and not be freaked out.
It is so nice and relaxing to be with you, the hexies are beautiful and around the flowers you can enjoy. The virus is now also in our small village, but staying at home is no punishment, we also go walking or cycling every day to keep moving.
Wish you all blessings and rest together with your husband.

  3. I love those pretty Liberty fabrics. They are very expensive here in Japan and often used for clothing. I have a small collection of scraps waiting to be used.
When I was growing up, my twin brother was always complaining he was bored. Parents would suggest all kinds of things for him to do and I just couldn't figure out, with never enough hours to do what I wanted, how anyone could ever be bored.

  5. Hi Kim, thank you for a lovely post, such beautiful photos and gorgeous fabrics. I, too, quite like being at home as I love to stitch, cook and read and spend time with family and my cats and we have just planted a gorgeous new garden which we are enjoying seeing it taking shape. These are extraordinary times but also a great time for us to connect via our blogs and social media in a positive way. Stay safe and well.

    We are lucky.
Some are in flats surrounding by noisy people and with confinement it must be very hard.
We have all the peace we want and need...to create, to relax and appreciate the nature around us.
    Take care Kim !

  7. Your hexies are so lovely. I really like how you've added the embroidered hexies, just add the perfect zing to the blocks. Staying busy here at home, quilts to make, quilts to quilt and cows to milk, calves to feed! The first case of covid 19 has been diagnosed in my county, the person is in the hospital. I'm holding Hebrews 13:6 as my verse through this craziness.

  8. You have chosen the perfect fabrics to compliment all of those pretty embroideries. I too can easily stay busy at home and be perfectly happy. Enjoy your garden and your stitching. Stay safe and stay healthy.

  9. Lovely to stop in for a visit with you, Kim! Oh, I too love to be home. And like you, I don't think I could ever be bored when home...there are just so many wonderful things I could do! I spent the weekend making fig jam, pottering in my garden, editing photographs from a recent photo shoot, Spring (or Autumn) cleaning, and spending time with my dear family.
Your little hexies are so beautiful...and your quilt is going to be absolutely exquisite!
May your week ahead be truly blessed!
    Hugs,

    1. I do not know what I would do if hydrangeas didn't want to grow in my garden. I would be very sad, as they are my favourite flowers, for many reasons. Wonderful though, that you can grow a variety of other beautiful plants. Give the hydrangeas another go....who knows you may be surprised. Have a lovely week, enjoying a little knitting, sewing and many of the other pastimes you delight in. Thank you so much for your sweet visit, lovely Elizabeth. Kim Xx

  13. Hi Kim, your warm and heartfelt post resonated deeply with me! In all the hubbub of the modern world that has sucked us in, we have gradually started to diminish respect and forget how to cherish true values. Maybe this global sadness that has enveloped us due to the virus will make us turn to ourselves, our loved ones, help each other be kind to one another and treasure the time we have been given without taking everything for granted! I love being surrounded by people and I equally love being at home - for it is my palace and my safe haven and as you said - my sanctuary. I am never bored and I always have things to try, make and learn. Be safe dear lady and take care of yourself! Love & Hugs!

  16. My goodness, and why of course, Sarah Lizzies has a vintage linen house towel in the stash. Perfect and appropriate opening in which I’m sure many slow stitchers share the same sentiment. Sweet Sunday is expertly pieced with romantic flowery prints and sweet embroidered bits & pieces. A feast for the eyes! If I were forced to choose a favorite it would be the colonial lady picking flowers in her garden. Autumn’s fading hydrangeas still maintain their beauty only in a more subtle manner. It is better you don’t wait to stitch your pretty hexies. Enjoy bringing them together now and not later. Slow Sunday Stitchers being able to connect is a gift.

Though our Spring vacation travels have been cancelled and we won't get to visit family....hubs and I also laugh that we are still happy to be home....never bored. Can you believe I haven't had any liberty prints! I'm going to look for some today!!! Sending hugs and smiles your way. :)V

  18. Always love your Eye Candy photos and inspiration. Our state is "shelter at home" but I have to take someone to their doctor appt tomorrow unless it's cancelled. Then I'll need to pick up Mom's prescriptions and look for some supplies. Not hoarding but the hoarders are making it impossible to find staple supplies. I wish I could just bunker down and not go out but realistically I can't do that. Be safe, creative and be blessed. “The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” Psalm 121:8

  19. I'm with you. I don't understand how anyone can be 'stir-crazy' in less than two weeks. If I never left my home, and still had internet, LOL, I would be fine. But then artsie people...always have someplace wonderful to go to in their minds, and never enough time to do IT ALL!

I enjoy your posts, though I seldom pick up a needle, special thanks for it all!

    1. Everything has escalated unbelievably quickly, hasn't it, Sandi. I understand the gravity of this situation, but if we try to remain calm and adopt sensible practices, then hopefully we will get through these bizarre days. What I do not understand is those who are frenzied when they shop. I simply do not understand the manic purchasing of toilet paper...it is beyond me. A little bit of kindness and patience goes a very long way. Thank you for your sweet visit, Sandi. I can just see you 'holed up' in your sweet home surrounded by all those vintage acquisitions of yours to enjoy each day. Take care, lovely lady. Kim Xx

  20. Another beautiful post today Kim - always so lovely to see all the flowers in your world. Your hexies are looking gorgeous. I have returned to some stitchery - hoping my eyesight will allow. We are so lucky to have our craft pursuits to turn to in times like this. I was not feeling anxious until I had to do a supermarket shop yesterday morning - Oh Gosh! How horrid it was - I could feel the knot of anxiety in my stomach & see it on the faces of my fellow shoppers. Hopefully I won't have to repeat that for awhile. Take care my lovely friend & enjoy your stitching Xxx (we are getting good rain here today - such a blessing)

BESICOS.

  24. What a beautiful post, Kim!! Aren’t we the lucky ones, that are never bored, and enjoy being at home? Home evokes the very essence of coziness and comfort. 25. Your hexies are absolutely lovely!

I too am so thankful for being able to stay connected with everyone during this uncertain time. What a blessing the internet is right now!

Even though it's hard not knowing what tomorrow holds I feel like the Lord is really using this time to help me (and I'm sure many many others) to deepen our trust in Him and know that he is in control always. He tells us to not worry about tomorrow, he will give us the grace we need for tomorrow when tomorrow comes. He will give us the grace we need for today. God is so good always, no matter what!

Thank you so much for this sweet post! I'm glad to see that you and your husband are doing well.

    Love,

  31. So wonderful to be able to enjoy such beautiful flowers in Autumn!! Your hexies are so lovely as always, I so love how you put a surprise of a touch of your embroidery or a pretty crochet item in there, makes it so much fun to look for the goodies hidden in the quilt. I am the same way, I am happy to be home, although like yesterday it was nice to get out and go to the park and enjoy the great outdoors and get some fresh air! Some of the Flowering trees are starting to bud so that's exciting, soon all this brown will be covered with green and pretty flowers! Stay well my friend!

  35. We are once again at home after our 10 weeks of travel and I, for one, am happy to be here. While visiting with friends and family is enjoyable, the constant chatter wears on my need for solitude, so a little silence is fine with me. I think we are fortunate to have our internet companions to converse with as it will make the required physical isolation less traumatic since we still have the ability to socialize virtually. And now, I must spend less time being distracted by the endless grim news and more time sewing up some lovelies.

  38. Kim - I just came in from a walk "in our back yard". It's mostly mud and snow out there, but it is a joy to be out of the house even for an hour, and to feel the fresh breeze on my face. Like you, we have many blessings, unlike those who are still trying to work and keep their families fed. My heart and prayers go out to them. I hope they have a foundation of faith - can you imagine how difficult it could be to get through this without it? Thanks for your lovely photos of flowers and your divine stitching! Stay well!

  39. Dear Kim, I’m glad to hear you and your hubby are content in your lovely home and colorful gardens! I hope you all are doing well with all of these new restrictions. We are doing our best at staying away from others but are so blessed to be living in the country where I can get out and work in the garden and J can go fishing. Our son, A, has decided to drive home from MT. He’s going through South Dakota and Nebraska to try and avoid more exposure but I’m pretty on edge. I’m so happy our guest rooms are in the basement...next to J’s man cave, so that’s where he’ll be for the next two weeks. It will be so good having him under his momma’s roof, though. Keep in “virtual” touch. You’re right, our blog world is another wonderful blessing. Praying you all stay safe and healthy! Z

  40. Love that sweet little purple crocheted lady with the hat (11th picture, if I counted correctly). I can envision lots of those sweet ladies featuring in quilt blocks surrounded by hexxies. I agree that home is always the best and I'm not finding these restrictions at the moment to be the least bit annoying. Different for those that have to work in these times or for the shut ins and the lonely. Our world through blogs is such a blessing.

I am so sorry it has taken me so long to respond your your lovely comment on my last post about moving day. I had no internet connection for a while but am good to know now! And now to your lovely, well written post dear Kim...like you, I also relish being by myself and even though I do consider myself a people person for he most part, being here on our little slice of heaven does wonders for the soul. I am not letting what is happening in the world now make me live in fear but our family is being careful and following protocol. God already has this in the palm of His hand and He is who I put my faith in. What makes me sad are those who choose not to believe it and instill fear in others. I do hope that you and your family stay safe and healthy. Oh, and those colors of the fading hydrangeas are so beautiful...my favorite! Hugs to you, dear friend!
