Floralicious Delight

Welcome to my little place brimming with floralicious delight. Let me say before I ramble on, an armful of thank you wishes to all you lovely lovelies, for your beautiful thoughts and prayers for the throngs of people who have suffered such loss and sadness these past weeks. The fires still present many problems. It will take a very long time to recover from this disaster, but Australians are a resilient lot. There has always been a community camaraderie here downunder  and when catastrophic events occur such as these bushfires, people pull together and get on with the rebuilding and healing. Indeed, outpourings of generosity and beautiful thoughts from all around the world have touched the hearts of many an Australian.

Here in my little place I have been slowly hand quilting my little quilt which spills over with floralicious delight. As I have sat  slowly stitching I have racked my muddly brain as to what moniker I could call this pretty. It's funny, words more often than not spill out from the dark, cobwebby recesses of my brain-pan, but when it comes to naming a quilt, well, I always seem to run into that metaphorical brick wall. For the life of me I can never think of a name! So, seeing as I am always waxing lyrical about the floralicious delight that dances in the garden that envelopes my little humble abode; and in this quilt.....that is what I am going to name it.......Floralicious Delight!! Duh....Kim!! I know, the obvious always seems to escape me. =)

This last week I have enjoyed many moments of stitching this pretty. I decided upon simple hand quilting as I wanted the fabrics to shine. The hand quilting dances around each pretty hexden flower and the centre hexie of each flower; then I have quilted around the border of every square. I am loving the simple quilting. Sometimes the KISS (keep it simple stupid) method really is the best.

Yesterday my friend, Anne and I (and our husbands) went to a little quilt show held by local quilters. There were some lovely quilts showcased but what stopped me in my tracks was a little stall where fabrics were being sold for a proverbial song. Now, you lovelies in America always seem to be able to acquire fabrics for a reasonable amount, but us poor ol' quilting souls down here at the bottom of the world, pay a king's ransom for a metre of quilting fabric. I happened upon one of the prettiest fabrics I have seen for a very long while. It is called Wild Meadows designed by Chong A Hwang; and is digitally printed. Isn't it amazing!! It is a meadow blossoming with floralicious delight....pansies, daisies, foxgloves, irises, bluebells, lilies, nasturtiums, zinnias, lupins........a right royal, floral extravanganza! I am afraid I caused a few ladies to laugh as I walked out of the door as I repeatedly sighed  "I am in love", as I tightly held my three metres of fabric!  This fabric with the gorgeous flowers in the foreground, to the trees and distant hills that kiss the sky, reminds me of this little patch where I happily live. I have no idea what I will do with it....but for now it makes a pretty backdrop for a few summer blossoms. It truly is a bit tricky to see where the fabric flowers stop and the real blossoms begin. Why the flowers on the fabric look so lifelike I can almost smell them.

It is early Sunday evening here and this afternoon I enjoyed a little stitching by the pond, whilst I sipped a cup of tea, or two. Why, the gladdies are beginning to flower. That is a wee bit exciting! It was a lovely afternoon, sitting in the garden whilst the sun beamed it's happiness and warmth for all to enjoy. I must say it was so very pleasant.

Thank you for popping by my little place overspilling with floralicious delight. My wish is that I have sprinkled a little beauty into your day♥

Until the next time...............

  4. It is overwhelming to see how people of the world have gathered to mutually send aid to Australia, and honestly - it gives me hope for perseverance of the humanity. My deepest respect for the Australian communities that always excel in times of disaster and need!
As for your quilted treasure - I have no words to express how brilliantly you have composed it!

  16. Ooohhh! Floralicious Delight indeed! Such a magnificent masterpiece you've created Kim, I'm just in awe of your quilting talents! And oh my goodness, that gorgeous piece of fabric you found, just amazing! And how I LOVED all your real flowers, they truly just blended in beautifully together, like they all belonged together! Truly such delight that you've shared! I'm thankful that you haven't been affected by the fires! Continuing to pray for those who have. Fire is one very real danger we have here and I understand the fear. Thankful you are able to sit outside in the beautiful sunshine, and enjoy all your flowers! Get a double dose of that sunshine for me :) We are enjoying the second round of snowstorms here, and loving it :) Blessings to you sweet friend!

  18. Perfect name for your flower-filled quilt. It's nice to know that KISS is down under also. Pretty floralicious fabric. Certainly, Chong A Hwang had you mind when it was designed. It reminds me of your lovely garden! Looking forward to what flowery project it will become.

  19. Score! Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time (to find that perfect fabric). It does look so much like your own sweet garden. KISS - love that. It is definitely a motto I NEED to follow. I'll remember it always.

  22. Kim your quilt is gorgeous! But you were very ‘naughty’ showing that divine fabric that you bought at the quilt show...of course I had to google the designer and see all her gorgeous fabrics! I lust after not only the panel you bought but her hydrangea panels are to die for! They are divine. What a quandary...I shouldn’t buy any new fabrics...but....😜

  23. Oh my goodness, your quilt is absolutely gorgeous! WOW!! I'd like to know what kind of tea you've brewed in your pretty little teapot. What an idyllic spot to sit and stitch and sip! :)

  24. I don't know what is prettier: your "love"ly fabric or the flowers which seem to pop right off the fabric. ( Snowy in this part of the world.) Yes, we in the States are worried about you and overwhelmed by the sheer breadth of the disastrous fires. We may have cheaper fabrics, but they are up to 12 American dollars are yard. Love your ponderings about naming and the final selection. I, too, struggle with the same issue. ( time4stitchn.blogspot.) Thanks for the comment.

  25. Oh my goodness, Kim, that gorgeous fabric was just waiting for you in that stall!! I know you will find something wonderful to do with it, but even if you don't, it's so beautiful. It was hard to tell where your flowers ended and the fabric's flowers began.
Your quilt that you're working on is looking more beautiful each time we see it. Enjoy your stitching while being in your lovely garden, and sipping a cuppa tea. Wish I could join you...xo

  26. I am so enjoying your little hexie flower quilt, I do like the stitching you decided to do on it, that is usually my go to quilting when I do, I like your KISS name for it, I call mine outlining but yours is so much better, will have to remember that :)
That piece you found is just gorgeous and it sure does look like your lovely area there, Just framing it and doing a little quilting around the flowers would make a lovely wall hanging, I am sure you will find something wonderful to do with it.
Sounds like you had a lovely day stitching by the pond, wishing you many more like that to come!

  27. Oh My! That is such pretty fabric! What a blessing for you to get a good deal on it too. I love it and think I'll see if I can find some. It will come to you eventually what to do with it. And I know you will make something totally awesome.

  28. I would have bought that wonderful flower fabric, too, but then it would join many more similar fabrics that I can't bear to cut up. Your hand quilting is giving such nice definition to your hexie flowers. We are visiting my brother in Florida so we are enjoying a respite from the cold up north. I'm thankful that you are not affected by the fires and prayer that the rains come soon so recovery can begin. So sad for all the animals.
