'Tis Winter......but Spring is a-comin! So very happy about that. Come to think of it I am doing a happy dance. I am happily shooing away Ol' Man Winter round the bend in our country road as I have become rather weary of his frosty and cranky demeanor.
Small evidences that Spring is not far off are happening in this little neck of the woods. The garden has been rather dismal and devoid of colour these past months, but ever so slowly, the Spring bulbs are just beginning to awaken from their deep, wintry sleep and pop up their pretty, little heads to herald that Spring is a-comin.

It seems Spring is a-comin to my sewing room as well. I have been working on my EPP hexies, albeit slowly. I have been stitching my pretty hexies into blocks of gleeful flowers. As I stitch these blossoms of delight, they do make me smile.
I used apple green and white polka dot fabric for the stems and leaves.I have also been stitching smaller EPP hexie flowers using 3/4" hexagon papers. For the centres I thought I might use snippets of my lovely embroidered linens.
At the moment imaginations are colliding around in my brainpan as to how the hexie flowers are going to dance on the quilt. I am still playing with the design. I feel it is going to be another bright and happy scrappy quilt. Someday I am going to grow up and join the big girls who fashion quilts that require a lot of accurate and precision stitching; I really, really will. You know the quilts; the ones that when you look at them, you scratch your head and wonder "how in the world did 'she' make that?????" Come to think of it, my Cathedral Window was a big girl's quilt and I didn't enjoy stitching that one at all. So, perhaps I will just stay in my world of rudimentary quilts and have oodles of fun. =)
Over the next week or so, I will happily sit in my sunny, sewing room and enjoy a little more hand stitching. As Ole Man Winter and his arctic-like sidekick, Jack Frost retreat and journey to those of you whom live way up there, I will dream of happy things.....Spring, warm sunshine, flowers, little birdies singing and pretty, blossom-filled quilts.
Let the birdies sing......"Spring, Spring, Spring"!
Let the birdies sing......"Spring, Spring, Spring"!
You seem like a master quilter to me! The hexi flowers are VERY lovely and springlike! My Bill is heading down your way so he'll go from hot summer to almost spring!
ReplyDeleteKim, your hexies are precious. Each one speaks of the glorious wonder of spring. "Blossoms of Delight", indeed. I don't see your quilting as "rudimentary" at all. I see it as absolutely charming, beautiful, and authentic. I hope you never change your inspiring style. By the way, your bird bath is so sweet. It's early morning here and we're expecting temperatures in the high 90's. I'll be inside twining a new rug, and will be thinking of you in your cozy sewing room awaiting spring. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are in full spring mode! Beautiful neat hexie-flowers. Enjoy your early spring! Anna x

Blessings and hugs!
It's so odd to hear you rejoicing of spring as we head to autumn. (But I LOVE hearing your stories of summer when we're in the dead of winter.)
ReplyDeleteLove the hexie flowers and all the spring colors. So very pretty.
We are heading to spring too, I have a big bunch of freesias in the kitchen, they grow wild in the park opposite us. The smell is wonderful. Your hexies are beautiful they look great in the flowers you are creating, your quilting looks pretty grown up to me!!
ReplyDeleteOh my your hexie flowers are way too cute!! Can't wait to see how you put them together!! Using the embroidered pieces for the centers is so pretty, great idea!
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine you are so ready for spring to come, I am getting excited about fall, but not looking forward to winter myself.
Happy to see your enthusiastic approach for the spring:)
ReplyDeleteAlways delighted to see the happy arrival of Spring. Kim Xx
DeleteYour hexie flowers are so very pretty and happy! Just seeing them makes me smile! Love, love, love your wonderful, cheerful photos. Spring is certainly something to look forward to as we are heading towards a visit from ol' Jack ourselves, but I must say we are rather looking forward to his visit after a long, hot and very dry summer. I can't wait to see your lovely quilt unfold. Sending you happy spring wishes and hugs xo Karen
ReplyDeleteYes, after a long, hot and dry Summer I dare say you will welcome the arrival of beautiful Autumn, but Winter.....it's just too chilly for my old bones. =) Though, of course, if I lived in an area surrounded by snow-capped mountains such as you, I might grow to love it. Thank you for your happy spring wishes and hugs, lovely Karen; they have made me smile. Kim Xx
DeleteYour bright colored projects look so fresh & inviting. Mother nature is still having races for the hotest day of the year...109 on Saturday! Send Jack packing, we need him!
ReplyDeleteOh Kim, your hexies are so beautiful and the flower fabriks are amazing, so much spring feelings together ☺.
ReplyDeleteThank you, lovely Loes. Hope you are enjoying a beautiful week. Kim Xx

DeleteYes, I liked the embroidered centers too.
DeleteWhat lovely flowers you are stitching! I'll be interested to see what you you will be doing with these next. Happy Spring to you! We are heading in the other direction as we begin putting our flowers to bed. I'm thinking of working on a little hexie love this winter to keep some Spring in my heart. Enjoy your weekend, Kim!
ReplyDeleteOh sweet Kim, I am so excited for you!! Spring is my favorite season! As you bid farewell to old man winter, we soon will find him knocking at our door. :) But before I let him in, I will enjoy the beauty of fall!! Your hexie flowers are simply darling!! Love the fabrics!! Now, when I look at your work I scratch my head and say, "how did she do that?"
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jann
Haha....sweet lady, you are very kind but I am afraid the quilts I stitch are in the 'piece-of-cake, but they take a long time, box. Spring too, would have to be my favourite season. It's the colour and fragrances of all the glorious flowers; it's the awakening of everything after a long, cold Winter that excites me. Oh....and not to mention all that lovely warmth...it's hard to beat. It is early morning here and I am thinking of you with many prayers and much love. You are very sweet to have visited my place, you are a treasure. Take care, lovely Jann. Sending you a basketful of hugs. Kim Xx
DeleteI'm in love with your pretty hexie flowers!! They really do scream spring is coming your way!
ReplyDeleteI am rather in love with my hexie flowers myself, Anitha. =) They cheer up the dullest day. Have the loveliest of days. Kim Xx
DeleteYour hexie flowers are pleasing the soul! What a flowery quilt that would be! The images of your blooming corner of the world will give me the strength to go through our winter :) So I cannot wait to see the colors Spring sheds through your garden!
ReplyDeleteOh I am loving those hexie flowers dear Kim ... just beautiful. Look forward to seeing what you create - it will be beautiful !! Today is 1st September here ... 1st day of spring & to welcome it - we have thunderstorms!!!! But the garden is beginning to spring into life ... a shame the Gardener wasn't too!!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteI think you should stay put in making your happy Hexie quilts, Kim! Why waste time on doing things that don't bring enjoyment? I can see that spring is doing a happy dance in your sewing room and on your clothesline. You always bring a smile to my face with all your pretties. ❤️
ReplyDeleteSuch teeny-tiny little Hexies!!! And in the shape of flowers too - be still my heart. You make me want to make some too but I know I shouldn't succumb to another 'thing' that will make me have to buy more stash. No room at the inn for any more!! As for spring's arrival there - how I wish we could have a do-over of our practically non-existent summer!
ReplyDeleteBig girl quilts? I think your quilts have a level of skill that I wouldn't attempt (my EPP project is over years old and still a WIP). You can't lose if you make things that make you smile and I'm guessing with all those pretty florals does just that.
ReplyDeleteOh, I don't know about that, Ann, but thank you. Those pieced quilts of yours are amazing. Hope you are enjoying a lovely Sunday. Kim Xx
Deleteawwww, first and foremost, i hope you never grow up - i hope you never change your style of doing everything!!! this quilt is going to be amazing, extra special, you sure do have a talent when picking out the fabrics. and an extraordinary gift when it comes to sewing!!
ReplyDeleteyou are waiting for spring - i am excited to welcome fall!! both are such beautiful seasons. i LOVE your daffodils, tied with ribbon...the color is magnificent!!!
also your pansies...are they real?? cut from your garden and placed in the bird bath?? you have a real talent when it comes to displaying and photographing your quilts and projects!!!
enjoy your long weekend!!
I always forget that as we are moving in to Fall, you are moving into spring. Daffodils are my absolute favorite flower: they come up early and remind me that winter won't last forever. They are deer and rabbit proof, and they multiply! The perfect flower for my yard.
ReplyDeleteOh my - you bring spring to our hearts - even as we are facing the end of our sunshine and warm days. Love the idea of the hexie flowers - such prettiness. Your photos are simply amazing and make me want to try some in your style - but mine just never turn out like I want. I'll keep trying.
ReplyDeleteSitting and stitching in a cozy room paints such a pretty picture, and soon I will be indoors for the rainy season - but for now it is stitching on the deck and photographing my dolls in their Southern Belle dresses and wide brimmed hats.
Happy week ahead my friend.
Kim, I am fascinated by your hexies! They look so troublesome to put together but you just keep putting more together like there's no tomorrow! They will make the loveliest quilt! The sweet little bird bath is so pretty! How nice awaiting spring! We are transitioning away from summer and leaning towards fall. Although it is my favorite time of year for sure, some cooler weather snuck in a bit earlier than I would have liked. I have already dug out the winter fleece pajamas! But I have heard we will have a nice fall well into November so I am hanging on to that. I like winter until about Dec. 26th....then I am ready for spring but winter really hangs on in this part of the country. Hope you have the nicest spring weather soon! Take care!
ReplyDeleteLinda
My little hexie flowers are not troublesome at all.....really. =) They just take a little time. Fall is also a glorious month and though I love the idea of a white Christmas with a cosy fire ablazing and lots of hot Christmas pudding drowning in a hot custard, as you say, Winter up there does seem to hang around for a very long time. I am a Spring/Summer kinda gal. Ole Man Winter seems to be hanging around a bit here, so I think you will have a lovely Fall, lovely Linda. Thank you for popping into my nearly Spring place. Kim Xx
DeleteAll your hexi's are wonderful!! Are you hand stitching them and the stems down??
ReplyDeleteKim my lovely, you just bend my brain. Your hexies are a sight to behold amongst the sweet pansies. Love, Mimi xxx
ReplyDeleteI hope, lovely Mimi my hexies bending your brain is a good thing. =) You are very sweet, thank you, lovely lady. Kim Xx
DeleteHow lovely that you have daffodils and violas and hexie flowers! Such a beautiful refreshing post. It did make me smile to see your flowers hanging on the washing line :)
ReplyDeleteI think you have to stick to your scrappy quilts because they are so pretty! I don't like a quilt that looks too perfect....too stuffy. I just love yours and your new flowers are just perfect. I am one of those "up there" that has to face old man winter and I am not happy about it. A gorgeous Springy quilt to look at sure helps!
ReplyDeleteHappy Spring, Kim! I love your hexie flowers and quilts. Don't ever change a thing! xo
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely feel from your flowers and quilts! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou are most very welcome! Thank you for visiting my Spring flowery li'l world. Kim Xx
DeleteGlad spring is on the way for you, Kim. What a wonderful season it is!

ReplyDeleteOh KIM! I'm so happy that spring will soon be debuting itself in your part of the world! It is indeed fallish weather here, and ole' man winter not far way. How I enjoyed my visit today, and I was completely enthralled with your love of hexies, I surely am intrigued with them, and how they speak to your heart and bring such contentment as you create such beautiful quilts with them! I loved the picture of your hexie flowers hanging on the line, oh what to delight to look upon them! You will enjoy this beautiful quilt so much and I look forward to the glorious joys of spring and sharing it with you :) Big hugs to you dear friend!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful hexie flowers Kim, looks like another lovely quilt in the makings.
ReplyDeleteYou are as excited about your whispers of spring as I am about my fall. Your hexie flowers are going to be so pretty sprinkled all over your new creation. I'm pretty sure you will come up with a plan that will show them off just beautifully! Can't wait to see the finished product! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty, colourful and happy hexie flowers. I can easily imagine them in a garden. It made me smile to see them hanging from the washing line :)
