Roses for Thee

Hello everyone. I have always wanted to link up to Soma's, Wandering Camera linky party so this month I thought I might just throw caution to the wind and join in the fun. No wandering around the countryside taking photos....sorry.....just picking a bunch of the most frangance-filled bunch of roses and playing with them.

So.....I thought perhaps I would pick some "roses for thee". =)

I have discovered I love taking photographs, something I didn't realise till I started my little blog. I also love to style photos. I suppose, ever since I was a li'l wee girl I have been styling this and that. It has always been an intrinsic part of me to think of  a way to present something in a fresh and unique way, always imagining......"how can I make this a little different, a little more creative??"

I love mixing things up. I love the unexpected. I love the happy accidents that happen when one plays with the camera and subject. For every hundred happy snaps I capture, there is usually one or two which really pleases my beady li'l eye.

Though a bunch of roses always dance in a simple vase, how gorgeous they look peeking from within swirls and swirls of sumptuous, Italian coverlets and some pretty French lace.

Of course, sometimes it is a bit tricky to choose just one or two photos!! =)

A bunch of ephemeral and pretty pastel roses, in all their simplicity, ever so gently evoking a sense of beauty. Whether sitting in a pretty vase or peeking from folds and folds of puckering, gorgeous fabric and lace, the rose speaks in a language all it's own. Indeed, the rose speaks in the sweetest and softest words, never failing to make the heart smile.

This year I have decided I want to improve my photography skills, even buy a new little camera. Funnily enough I went to a camera store the other day and the fellow inferred that my camera was a touristy one....not one for the 'real' shutter bug!! Oh well....it looks as if I have been doing it all wrong these past couple of years. I must admit I am a bit bamboozled by all the cameras out there. So much information for a novice such as me to digest. I came home without a new 'real' camera in my kit bag! For now me and my little touristy camera will just have to do....at least for a little while.

Until the next time, have the loveliest of days, perhaps even drink in the fragrance of a rose or two.

Linking up to the lovely Soma's Wandering Camera  party over at her beautiful blog, Whims and Fancies. I am always captivated by the beauty Soma captures with her magic camera and she very generously always passes on helpful information to those, such as me, whom need a lot of help with their photography.  I know some of you lovely ladies capture the most amazing photos of your everyday life, so why not pop over to Soma's place and join in the fun.

  4. A beautiful post as always Kim. I don't see any problems with your photos - they are stunning in every post! I have a touristy camera too (and my phone camera) - and like you I am lostwhen looking at new cameras - we will stick with them I think. Have a fabulous weekend sweet lady!

  5. First of all, thank you for the roses. My dad was a hybridiser of roses and I grew up in a rose garden. They are one of the things I miss most in my tiny Tokyo garden.
About cameras, I had a "real" camera with all kinds of lenses and a big heavy camera bag. When things went digital, I considered getting a body that would fit all my gadgets ... but ...
having a small camera that can go easily into my bag and be whipped out as the occasion occurs, is far better than lugging a super-device. It is not all the camera that makes the picture but the eyes that see something to record and having that little touristy camera on hand to seize the moment.

  6. Oh my - the roses of summer - while we shiver and freeze - it was 12 degrees F this morning and never got above freezing all day. Glorious sunshine though - which is always cheery.

I just adore your photos - I can't imagine improving on them. I love the way you position things and how you add in such interesting bits and pieces - your photos are always my favorites. Your work is worthy of being in fancy magazines. I haven't the patience to get everything in such nice order before snapping the photos - that is my project for this year, learn to be patient and stage things before taking the photos - work on the imagination needed to come close to the photos you take.

And I can't imagine you needing a "real" camera - or that your camera is a "tourist" camera - you do magical things with that wonderful camera. A couple of years ago I needed a camera with better zoom for wildlife photos - decided on a Nikon CoolPixP600 - it is fabulous - but my little pink Canon Powershot sD1200IS is the one for everyday photos of crafts, or table settings or flowers. I've had it for years and years and it takes the most wonderful photos - and fits right in my pocket so it can go any place with me. The Nikon has a nice carrying case and gets a good workout too - I love them both.

I think I'll go back and enjoy the roses all over again - and again. You have arranged them so sweetly and they bring a smile to my face with each one. Thank you for the cheerfulness my dear.

  7. I think our touristy little camera does just fine!! Some people are just camera snobs....or he was just hoping to make a sale. Now....if only the internet would come out with smell-o-vision, I'd be a happy camper!

  18. With all the beautiful photos you share here on your blog I wouldn't call yours a touristy camera. It's not the type of camera one uses, but the way it is used and you have captured many precious moments in your life, so don't worry about that Kim! The roses of this post are a pure delight!

  20. You did an amazing job on these, even with your "tourist" camera, I believe they want to sell you a camera :) I do know by my hubby being a photographer that you can always get a bigger better camera, but I am happy with my low end :) You do have a wonderful eye when it comes to presentation of your subjects, and these roses with the lace and the embroidery is just stunning, brings a big smile to this girls face that is so done with all this cold and ice we are getting. Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Well, for a "touristy" camera, you have captured some amazing shots! It is rather overwhelming to shop for a new camera, I do understand. Know this - find a good camera body, and get a great lens that can shoot in lower light. This will help you get the bokeh backgrounds that I think you would like. If you want more information, just email me. You have a gift and an eye for photography, and I think the right camera in your hands would be special indeed. Hugs to you today dear friend, I so enjoyed all your pictures and staging, you know how to treat the eye to beautiful candy :)

Absolutely the most glorious rose images...and like you, I love to set up little photo shoots with inanimate objects, especially flowers. Just beautiful!
