A Li'l Sweet Sunday Quilting

A lovely hello to all you lovely lovelies♥ 'Tis late Sunday afternoon here and later this evening I am going to settle down and enjoy a little hand quilting while I watch TV. My Sweet Sunday quilt top is finished. Yay! This week I have been stitching little hexies to the border. I decided these sweet little  six-sided polygons (this I do remember from my school days) would skip around the edge in a straight line. Because I am  mathematically challenged and could not, would not, did not calculate precisely between each hexie; I just butted them up to each other and crossed my fingers and toes that the space at the end of each row was of a smilar distance. Quite incredibly, believe it or not, it worked! I simply found the centre (back in the day, the concept of symmetry sunk into my brainpan) and just worked outwards to the end. I suppose the moral to this tale is to work out all those detailed, impossible mathematical measurements to the nth degree  before one embarks on a quilting adventure; or indeed follow the pattern; but truly, where is the fun in that. =)  As always I merrily dived head first into my sweet Liberty fabrics and kinda made it up as I went along. That's how I roll.

I found the embroidered flounce to have a lot of little puckers as I stitched the hexies to it and I know these will not disappear as I quilt, but I guess I will just have to live with it. I suppose, I will yet again have to adopt the attitude of satisfactionism and not perfectionism. Oh, the botheration of quilting!

For the backing I couldn't find a fabric that would play happily with my Liberty hexies. I could've bought metres and metres of Liberty fabric but at $50 per metre this was not an option. Instead I bought a blue bed sheet. I know a tad boring, but as this quilt is for me and no-one really looks at the back (except you of course) it will just have to do. I hunted for an all-over Liberty-like fabric dancing with flowers but could not find any. So 'plain Jane' it is. I would have preferred a busy, ditsy floral so that all those imperfect quilting stitches that I know will appear more often than not, would be hidden in the busy print. Now ALL my quilting imperfections and sins will be laid bare for all to see. I deliberated muchly over how to quilt this pretty, deciding upon simply quilting around each large hexie. With all my embroideries I am of the thought that this would look best. Again, the KISS method of quilting is to be the order of my day.

My Liberty stash has been decimated to a messy jumble of smidgens of scraps. 'Tis a bit sad really as they did look rather lovely in all their togetherness. I will save these itty bitty, slivers of fabrics for a sunny day when I fashion another Liberty inspired pretty. 

But for now, I will sandwich the quilt together, place it in my quilting frame and begin the begin..... a little imperfect handquilting. Yes indeedy, a rather pleasant evening of slow stitching. A Li'l Liberty Hexie Love♥

A lovely welcome  to you, lovely lovelies♥ 'Tis Sunday afternoon here. A chilly, autumnal Sunday afternoon, where all day Old Man Sun has played hide and seek with the clouds; where every now and then magical bursts of sunbeams have sprinkled warmth and happiness upon my humble abode. The day has flown by. My goodness time flies when you are having fun, doesn't it. How has your week been?? Down here the powers that be are beginning to ever-so-slowly lift  the restrictions that are in place,  and people are beginning to step their toes out of their homes and brave the world. As for me I have had the best fun playing. Playing with sweet Liberty hexies, vintage embroideries, branches adorned with autumn leaves, sweet birdies.....so, so many pretties. I have had the best of times playing 'photographer' and 'stylist', too.....well at least trying to.

The sides, top and bottom of Sweet Sunday have now been squared with triangles in readiness for the border.  For the border I added a lovely embroidered piece, which I snippety snipped from a cot flounce. I happened upon this pretty a couple of weeks ago in a quaint, little vintage store, for a proverbial song. This embroidered pretty was waiting patiently for me to take it home. It was just one of those happenstance kinda moments. There are about eight metres in total, just enough for this quilt. It is so pretty; perfect for this quilt where vintage linens sit happily alongside Liberty fabrics. I am delighted with this quilt. I am delighted with the linen embroideries of sweet ladies, flowers, pretty teacups, butterflies and sweet little birdies; all sitting ever so prettily, in the friendliest of manner, among all the sweet Liberty prints. Why, me thinks every scrumptious pretty within this quilt would look rather lovely framed within the confines of a fancy, beribboned frame. =) What sayeth you???

I am going to enjoy a little, sweet Liberty hexie stitching this Tassie, autumnal Sunday afternoon. A little stitching of dancing hexies, dosy doe-ing around the border of all that Liberty lusciousness.....perfect. Well, that is of course, if I can do the maths. For a mathematically challenged gal such as I, an impossible task, really. Oh well, perhaps I will just play, dotting a hexie here and a hexie there, and see what pattern magically reveals itself to me. Afterall, 'tis a visual gal that I am.

There is sunshine in my soul today

A lovely welcome to all you lovely lovelies♥  There is sunshine in my soul today. Despite all the dreadful happenings that are playing out all over the world, here in my little sunshiny, autumnal corner of the world there is bright, happy, flowery, fabric kinda sunshine, causing my soul to sing. Why?? Because my postbox has delivered a parcel of happiness in the form of more luscious Liberty fabrics.

Are they not just the prettiest fabrics overspilling with sunshine?? I ordered fourteen 25cm x137cm strips to add to the mix which I already have. Of course, I should've, would've, could've ordered many, many more delectable strips but my good husband wanted to eat this last little while. Me, not so much. Honestly, my good husband and my good self have been munching on cup cakes and birthday cake and all manner of celebratory food for the last couple of weeks that one would think perhaps he and me would be just fine surviving a day or two....or three, without morsels of food. I mean really, if camels can store up food for a little while, why oh why can't he and me. I know for a fact  there are reasonable deposits of fat stored within my body to tide me over for quite a bit (the mirror reveals this little truth to me every time I look within the looking glass)......but he, perhaps not. 'Tis such a shame that we have to eat. I would much prefer to buy fabric.

So, for the last three weeks I have been happily stitching away, piecing snippets of puzzle-like Liberty fabric and embroidered pretties into hexies. All the pieced hexies are finished. I need only to incorporate triangles of fabric along the edges to make the sides, top and bottom straight. Then I am going to stitch a lovely embroidered piece around the quilt. I am thinking a row of hexagons dancing around the border would look rather spiffy.......but I will see what happens as I play.

'Tis Mother's Day here today. As we are still in lockdown down here and there is not a lot open I will be spending it at home. Perhaps my good husband and I will go for a little drive later through the autumnal hued countryside, and enjoy a take-away cappuccino or two. I must say, Autumn is staging the most glorious show at the moment. As we drive through hill and dale I will gaze up at the blue, blue sky and think upon my beautiful mum and be embraced by all the lifetime, love-filled and cherished memories that whirl around her.  Sweet remembrances of my mum are always the warmest of hugs.

Later this evening I will enjoy a little more Sweet Sunday stitching; a little sweet Liberty sunshine. If it is Mother's Day where you are....somehow, in some way, enjoy a little family love. I wonder, are your family visiting you?? There are parts in the world that are beginning to ease the restrictions that we have all been living under these last months. However you choose to spend this Sunday, may it be sprinkled with loveliness.....and a little sunshine♥
