Hello lovely lovelies♡ March has quietly marched into my little corner of the world, and it has brought with it soft, diffused light in the early mornings. Quiescent mornings with sunbeams filtering through the misty, pearlescent sky. Cool mornings with the promise of warm days. I must say 'tis rather lovely.
March has brought a flimsy, too. I'm delighted to say, each little basket of flowers are now gathered together in a flimsy. Splashes of vibrant colour and floralicious joyfulness here, there and everywhere. I must say this quilt is not for chroma phobes. Indeed, some might need to don sunglasses to dim the brightness.
The 9" blocks are set on point with the baskets skipping diagonally wherever they will. No sashings between each basket; just a border of grey batik dancing around the quilt alluding to a modern aesthetic. The baskets are Kona solids and the flowers are florals from my stash. This quilt is a biggen measuring 98" by 98".
Now to hand quilt Flower Baskets. I haven't decided upon quilting designs. Perhaps a basket weave design inside each basket?? A simple design, me thinks. Anyway, while I sit and contemplate my belly button, perhaps my pretty will whisper in my ear as to how she wants quilting stitches to skip atop her. I will set her aside until Old Man Winter and his frigid sidekick Jack Frost take up residence once more. I get chilblains just thinking about those two pesky, wintry varmints. Yep, a lot of hand quilting in front of a cosy fire might just get me through the perils of winter.
But, for now I will enjoy the warm days of March with nary a thought of the colder days creeping ominously up my country road.
Yesterday was the anniversary of my first foray into blogging. I can't quite believe I've been prattling on about stuff and nonsense for thirteen years. That's a helluva lot of musings and happy snaps of all things stitching and of course, the flowers.
Here in Blogland we frequently visit each other and see what we have been up to and how we are going; how we are travelling. And, in these days, where each week is becoming a little darker and more sinister than the previous week, blogging is a way of encouraging each other, building one another up, supporting each other, laughing with each other, crying with each other; and of course, inspiring one another. Thank you for the perpetual inspiration you beam to me down here at the bottom of the world on a regular basis. Thank you, too, for always taking the time to visit my little place and gift my days with your sweet thoughts; your sweet words. You, lovely lovelies, are the sweetest of blessings to me♡

So, I've been thinking. Wouldn't it be lovely, if every now and then, I send a little package of 4" squares of my fabric stash to some of you; just to thank you for your kindness. No drawing names out of a hat, no random computer generated numbers.....just me sending a surprise wee parcel to you in the post. A lovely surprise in the post, other than a bill is always welcome, is it not?? Now, if you wouldn't mind a little package filled with fabric loveliness from me to you, please say so and let me know by sending your address to my email. Sharing the love with fabrics♡ Sprinkling a little kindness into another's day♡

I must be off. A little knitting for
Slow Sunday stitching while watching Vera, me thinks. Enjoy your Sunday, lovely lovelies. Don't forget to be the light in this dark, dark world. "That's a bit grim" I hear you say. Well, after Friday's shocking turn of events in the White House it's clear that there is a tectonic shift in global geopolitics. In Trump's and his regime's world, allies are foes and foes are allies. Very grim indeed. And on that somber note, I really must be off. Vera and a little knitting awaits. =) Take care, lovely lovelies, and again, thank you for your kindness all these years♡
Until the next time........
Your little flower baskets are so cute! Another beautiful quilt for you to quilt, happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim
ReplyDeleteLove your flower basket's what a wonderful idea. They seem to stand out from the background.
We have some sunshine here at last, we have had a lot of grey days.
Things are very dark, we are all hoping for the best.
Best wishes Kay cxx
Hi lovely Kay, there you are. =) The grey batik background does make the baskets stand out, don't they?? How fabulous the sunshine is beaming for you. The dark grey days of winter will be but a memory for you, very soon. I imagine there are spring bulbs flowering everywhere, there. How wonderful. Yes, let us hope that this evil will be quashed. There are many people fighting on the right side of history. As always, a visit from you, lovely Kay, has sprinkled smiles into my day...thank you. Kim Xx
DeleteGosh, Kim, your basket quilt is simply gorgeous--I hope you will consider entering it in a quilt show if there is one available to you...it is such a special piece. That gray batik is the perfect setting for those floral beauties...it made me smile looking at all the photos.
ReplyDelete....And, smiles are few and far between these days. Each happening gets more and more horrific....and casts us further out into the darkness...
So thank you for your lovely post.;))) hugs, Julierose
Your baskets are so colorful and fun. What a fun way to use all those lovely florals. Enjoy your cooler March, we are hoping it warms up a bit, it's been cold here.
ReplyDeleteYour flower baskets are overflowing with colour! This will be fun to hand quilt by the fire when it’s cold outside. We got more snow yesterday…I’m looking forward to spring in all its glory. I will send you my address…. Gail at the cozy quilter.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary. Loving that basket quilt. My favorite basket is the pansy one. I would love a little bit of fabric sent to me (fun), but reluctant to put my address out into the internet. And I live very far away. In Marysville, Washington.
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew your name. =) Oh no, we mustn't put our addresses on the internet; especially these days. If you are interested in a happy package of 4" fabric squares I meant for you to send me an email with your address.
Deleteas you are moving on to cooler weather we are getting closer to the warmer weather of spring once again - I am looking forward to it but not the bugs and humidity that come with it. I have two quilt shows that I am going to see to look forward to - and all your flowery fabric is looking so good. I can't even start on American politics I am so upset about it all - I could not believe what I was hearing and my family disusing it so much - we can not believe how this is all happening and how much we are against it. Everything he does from one day to the next is more horrific then the previous and his party is just falling in line doing what he says no matter if they agree or not. We will become so isolated I can't believe he really comprehends at times what he is doing. Please know that at leas half if not more Americans do not stand with him but he has the Republican party under his thumb and they seem to dare not to disagree with him. Democrats and Independents do not like any of this but they do not have control of Congress or the Senate - if they try to impeach him again they do not have the majority to win unless some of the Republicans will desert him and they do not seem to be capable of standing up to him
ReplyDeleteYou my Dear are always a light in my world--I love all your bright and beautiful florals and the quilts you create--and read all your post--though I am bad about always commenting--( am always eating my lunch when I am on the computer--so tell myself that when I am finished I will come back and add a comment--unfortunately--me forgets--sorry!! Enjoy the signs and smells of spring--hugs, di
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you so much for your beautiful words, lovely Di. I know exactly what you mean muddly minds and forgetting. Some days I can't even remember who I am. =) Kim Xx
DeleteOh *my*, those baskets are lovely all together in a top!! A sweetness-and-light counterpoint to the execrable behavior by the Felon-in-Chief and his lickspittle toady on Friday. Just when you think the latest low in thuggery can’t be outdone, some fresh hell is perpetrated on an aghast populace and a watching world. Is this how Hitler got started??? 🤯🫣🤯 On a happier note, I’m glad you mentioned your “blogiversary”, I’m now in 2015 in your archives. So very entertaining! Thanks for the good vibes you put out into the world, Kim, it really does encourage everyone who loves beauty, creativity, and soul uplift! Hugs, Nancy O.
ReplyDeleteThis Trumpian regime does have Hitler-ish overtones. What a despicable and disgraceful lot of deplorables they are. Oh dear, you're not wandering through the years of Sarah Lizzie's, are you?? I hope you've got a comfy sofa and strong coffee to help you through. =) Here's to beaming throughout the world an overload of beauty, creativity and uplifting everyone's soul to counteract and fight the evil. Tell me Nancy....do you have a blog?? My addled mind can't remember. =) As ever, you make me smile with your beautiful words. You, lovely lady, and your words truly bless my days. Thank you. Kim Xx
DeleteNo blog, dear far-away kindred spirit and shining light; and yes, I am indeed treating myself to a leisurely stroll through your archives, often with my morning coffee! 👍🏻😻 It’s been a delight— Hugs, Nancy O.
DeleteNancy O. here again, Kim: I would sooo love some of your 4-inch squares in the mail! You haven’t changed your email address from that listed on your blog, have you? I tried to use it yesterday morning, but got an error message.
DeleteNancy, my email is still the same....... sarahlizzieshandmade@hotmail.com
DeleteThe nefarious, dark forces within are at play. =)
I agree...be the light! :-) Such beautiful little flower baskets. Absolutely beautiful and sets the mood for the coming spring.
ReplyDeleteI've been in and out of the blogging world for a number of years but love to check in on people's projects. Happy quilting!
Dear Kim, I t is always a pleasure to visit your corner of the world. The basket quilt top looks great and I thought the baskets was tiny? What a surprise to discover it is much bigger! As to how you quilt this beauty? I am sure it will whisper exactly what you need to add and embellish with various colours, threads and maybe a variegated thread to add so much more creative detail to it. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with and how it will delight the eye! Every time I hop over to your blog, you lift my heart and inspire me in my corner of the world, thank you!
ReplyDeleteI like your suggestion of a variegated thread, Maggie. For now, I'll let my pretty sit till winter. Fingers crossed she decides how she would like to be quilted. Thank you so much for your beautiful words, lovely lady. Kim Xx
DeleteFelicidades por todos éstos años de blog y que vengan muchos más.
ReplyDeleteEsta colcha es un gran trabajo y la elección de las flores de cada cesta es perfecta.

BESICOS.
Kim, when I saw your flower basket flimsy in the thumbnail photo, I might have said "Oh look!" right out loud! It is just gorgeous and I love how it turned out. Thank you for being a light in this world where my country is getting more grim by the day. Please tell people that there are at least 50 million of us who hate what is happening and are horrified by it. I keep writing my senators and representatives - hope it is doing a little bit of good. At least there is sewing therapy to be had!
ReplyDeleteYour bountiful little baskets of flowers are so lovely, well done on completing this pretty top. And congratulations on your blog anniversary too. You are a beacon of light and friendship from your little corner of Tasmania. Did I ever tell you we had a two week in Tasmania same years ago?
ReplyDeleteWow 13 years that is wonderful, Kim. Your blog posts always bring a smile to my day . Thank you so much for sharing your lovelies. The baskets are so cheerful. I love that they are filled with blooms. Have a blessed day. Hugs.

DeleteYour flower basket flimsy is just gorgeous Kim & I look forward to seeing how you decide to quilt it. I am in awe of all that you create Kim. I was looking at it hanging on the clothes line & thinking to myself that your wee ricrac clothes line would surely not be able to hold all that gorgeous-ness up!!! Happy blogging anniversary. I am never adverse to a bunch of fabrics so I shall send you my address but I am happy to wait in a long line - thank you for letting us all take part in your generosity. xx
ReplyDeleteyour baskets of bright, beautiful flowers against a stormy grey sky - oh, this one truly touches my soul ... you are a Light in my World and i will always be grateful for the peace that you bring - thank you and may Spirit bless you.
ReplyDeleteHaving woken up to yet more bad news on the radio this morning, how lovely to have my morning brightened by your beautiful floral baskets. How stunning they look now that they are all together. What fun you will have quilting them. xx
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary of your blogging, how fun to share with others your pretty fabrics! I so love your little baskets of flowers and yes that is a very big quilt, it will certainly keep you warm this winter as you hand quilt away, it will be a lovely spring gift to have it done next spring :) My Iris are just peeking out of the ground, getting me excited for spring to come, although we had a bit of snow this morning with 34 mph winds :(
ReplyDeleteOh Kim, YOU are the light in my world! I save your posts until I have time to truly immerse myself in your prose and see the amazing creations that come forth from your end of the world, and of course Pete's garden contributions too. Once again your clever fingers have fashioned a beautiful quilt that will keep you warm this winter whilst you spend time stitching it together.
