More Happy Crochet ♡

'I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those

in which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens

but just those that being simple little pleasures, following one another softly...'

L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

Ahh...Anne Shirley♡ Many, many happy days as a young girl were enjoyed reading of the adventures and misadventures of Anne 'with an e' Shirley. So many wonderful quotes of wisdom to be found within the pages of Anne and her chronicles of Avonlea. Pete has always thought he'd like to visit Prince Edward Island. I too, wouldn't be adverse to wandering around the land of Green Gables, soaking up the scenery and landscapes that the TV series so beautifully captured; but I don't suppose it will ever eventuate. I wonder if any of my Canadian blogging friends have ever visited Prince Edward Island??

This week has been one where simple pleasures have followed one after the other in a gentle rhythm. Books, flowers, capturing happy snaps, baking, sipping cups of tea in pretty tea cups....a little of this and a whole lot of that..........and a little crochet.

Throughout this week I have spent many a delightful hour in front of the fire, during the day and into the evening;  happily crocheting away. I've spent many a contented hour crocheting while gazing outside my window, where the burnished hues of autumn abound; and the air begins to become decidedly chillier.

With the front and back finished I started crocheting the sleeves. I decided upon granny stripes for the sleeves, as I rather like the contrast of the stripey sleeves with the granny squares of the front and back. I continued crocheting the remaining sleeve this morning for Slow Sunday Stitching but didn't have enough of one colour, so me thinks there will be a trip to the wool shop this coming week. A visit to the wool shop is always fun. Wall after wall of towering shelves of wool in a plethora of plys and colours, and textures. Besides, I'm thinking my next crochet pretty might be a blanket for the bed, so perhaps lots of balls of wool in myriad colours will come home with me. I'm in the mood for another granny square pretty. Granny squares are truly one of life's nicest of pleasures.

It's late Sunday evening here and my bed piled high with quilts beckons me. I hope, lovely lovelies, lovely friends, your Sunday is a pleasant one, filled with the nicest and simplest of pleasures♡ For me, one of life's nicest and simplest pleasures is sinking into a cosy bed under the warmth and the hugs of homemade quilts, and drifting off to the land of dreams♡

Until the next time......

  1. I have been to Prince Edward Island twice. Beautiful place. There is a LM Montgomery museum in Leaskdale, Ontario, about 2.5 hours from where I live. Her husband was the minister at the Presbyterian church there. I read all of the Anne books to my daughter when she was little. She still loves them,

Another pretty sweater on its way to the finish line. I’m sure you will come home with lots of pretty yarn from the local yarn shop. Make sure you show us your purchases next week. Gail at the cozy quilter

  3. I love to be content in my own home. It sounds like you definitely know how to do that. Yes, granny squares are the most satisfying items to crochet. I love the colors of your sweater. Although we are heading into summer, I enjoyed seeing your cozy fireplace and pretty mantel decor.

  4. Hi sweet Kim, it's mid-morning here in Ottawa and so many more hours left to play around with fabric and yarns. Lucy Maud Montgomery's home on Prince Edward Island is a National Historic Site. It really is pretty and of course PEI is amazing although the first time I went with my family we were camping and it rained most of the time, but as we were leaving, the sun came out. PEI is really amazing when it's sunny :-)

    1. Well, I'm a bit pea green with your visit to Prince Edward Island, lovely Andree. =) Lucky you! Though I don't suppose I would've enjoyed camping there in the rain. I much prefer a bright sunny day in which to soak up all the gorgeous scenery.

Thank you for your sweet visit. Enjoy your day filled with yarns and fabrics, and creative pursuits. Kim Xx

  5. You fill my heart with lovely flowers! What a gardener you are! We have only had our tulips, daffodils and bright yellow dandelions so far. And yet you are in fall still having lovely pastels. Love your Granny squares and stripes! Enjoy your enchanting trip to the yarn store for more inspiration!

    1. Alas, Debbie, those tulips and other flowers were Mother's Day gifts from my daughter's and, a trip to a market by me. Next to no flowers here in the garden. Autumn and very soon winter, will set in. There are gorgeous hues from autumn leaves, though. I'm thinking a few more purchased bunches of flowers will be needed to get me through the winter months.

Even my husband, who is the gardener, cannot work his flowery magic in the garden through winter. He will be busy cleaning up the mess that winter brings along with it. Jack Frost is a varmint! The green stems from spring bulbs are beginning to pop up so that's a lovely surprise.

Thank you for your sweet visit. A trip to the wool shop will most definitely fill me with inspiration for some more colourful granny squares. =) You have a great week, too. Kim Xx

  10. When my daughter and I visited my Mother in NS ( we live in Kansas City) I took her to PEI. She was 13 and an Anne of Green Gables fanatic. We saw everything even laundromats, convenience stores and so PLUS the actual Anne things. She is 51 now and still talks about it!!

    1. What wonderful memories for you and your daughter, Bettina. I imagine visiting PEI and seeing all the 'Anne things' would have been a highlight for a thirteen year old who loved all things Anne Shirley. Such a special vacation for you both. Thank you for your sweet visit to my little place. Kim Xx

    1. Pili, I cannot decide which pattern I'd like for a granny square blanket, so like you, I'll have to fashion more than one. =)

  12. Your crochet is so beautiful Kim - such lovely colours you are using. Yes we have had our fire going non stop lately - nice autumn days but very chilly mornings & evenings. I am thankful to have the fire to keep the house warm. Enjoy your visit to the wool shop. xx

  13. Love that quote that started your post. I started watching Anne with an E, but haven't seen the new series, I need to watch them again. There is nothing better in the cold winter than to cuddle under warm quilts! Have fun shopping for new yarn!
