I spy with my little eye....

 Something beginning with......

Petunia Pig

Lacey Ladybird

Reggie Rabbit

Milly Mouse

Kingston Koala

Sammy Snail

Dudley Dog

Faelynn Fox

Penelope Penguin

Piao Panda

Lenny Lion

Benny Bear

AND......because there has to, just has to  be a turkey on my American grandson's blanket......

Theodore Turkey

And, oh my goodness, did he take a while to finish! I gave up on the instructions in the book and imagined another way to finish the feathers. He didn't come out too badly, not too badly at all....even if I do say so myself. =)

This week I completed more critters. Thirteen have joined the menagerie. Five more to go. All the fiddly bits......eyes, ears, snouts, beaks, feet, cheeks etc etc were finicky and time consuming and a bit of a pain to crochet and then sew. Thank goodness I decided to crochet the animals separate to the granny square as there would be a messy tangle of threads on the back of the blanket. All that will be seen on the back now is the outline stitching of each animal. More work of course, but for my persnickety eye, much neater and visually pleasing.

The book has an animal dancing on every granny square of the blanket. This blanket will not. There's only going to be an animal on every alternate square. An animal on every square is a little too busy for me. I know!! I'm that girl where more is never enough. Go figure!!

Throughout today (as it's Sunday) I have picked up my crochet hook and worked on more granny squares. There's quite a few to do still. Only four weeks in which the blanket has to be finished. I had better skedaddle!

Thank you for visiting my little place♡ It's a place where for a while yet I will be wrapped in a tangly, woolly mess. My little candle is shining♡ A fragrant candle with coconut and lime scents wafting around as I crochet♡ A beautiful aroma, creating a cosy ambience.......relaxing me; as I granny square away♡ Hoping your day, lovely lovelies; lovely friends, is a joyous one♡

Until the next time......

  4. Oh Kim! What a fun menagerie you are creating! Each and every one exudes personality. Your little grandson is going to have so much fun looking at all the critters on his blanket. Making gifts for the special little people in our lives is just the best. I can’t wait to see the rest of the animals. Well worth all of your effort! Gail at the cozy quilter.
PS. It seems we are both in creating critters mode these days…see my blogpost ….

  9. I love how you named all those adorable little critters. Yes, crocheting little animals is fiddly, especially the eyes, noses and mouths. The ears can be annoying also. I have made several full crocheted animals over the years and the assembly and finishing are the hardest parts.

  10. Aren't your little animals adorable, Kim?! What a fun project! I like your idea for sewing them on to the crocheted background after it's all finished. Enjoy every stitch!

  20. Oh Kim, you have outdone yourself with those gorgeous little animal heads. What a lovely blanket this is going to be! I'm currently enjoying a South Island coach trip, and thought you would be interested to know that there are a lot of Aussies onboard, including two ladies from Tassie!

  21. What a wonderful zoo your little critters will make for Lenox. And I spied some beautiful roses in a little vase on your table. Oh, it seems like we'll never see flowers and green grass again, but I know that the seasons continue to change and our chance at roses, and daffodils and iris will come. Good luck with your crocheting, but I'm sure you will meet your deadline.

  24. Oh my goodness - talk about amazingly adorable!! All your angst working out the designs has been so worth it. Makes me wish for another grandie just so I can make one too (and no, there won't be any more...four is enough).
