Hydrangea Blue

Hello lovely lovelies. A beautiful welcome to my little place. It is a place where hydrangeas have put on quite the show, these past summery months. Big, beautiful, lavish hydrangeas, all delighting in shades of blues to purples.

They are my favourite flowers, just in case you did not know. =) I haven't chatted about 'my' hydrangeas this summer, so today is the day when I beam a little hydrangea blue to your place. From what I have seen on the TV this week, some of you could do with a little dose of summery hydrangeas. I do hope all is okay in your little corner of the world.

The hydrangeas this year have been spectacular. I don't know why but they have decided to pull out all stops and show off to all who drive by, indeed, to all those who visit my humble abode. So, so many words come to mind when trying to describe these gorgeous blooms. Elegant, bosomy, bold, extravagant, generous, bountiful, happy........and just so long-lasting. Why, the hydrangeas here bloom from December to May. For months they are happy to glow with the gorgeous blues, mauves, purples; and as they age and the nights begin to get colder they morph gently into glorious antique hues. Though the days here are still warm the hydrangeas are whispering to me that soon it will be autumn. Ever so slightly the  petals are beginning to change into shades of wine, lilac, plum, currant, to the prettiest softest greens. Truly, they are all gorgeous.

As I am chatting about the hue blue  this week, I have been fashioning a bag....a blue bag.  It is for a friend.......a 'just because' gift. As I always do, I hunted and gathered ribbons, velvet leaves, laces, doilies, vintage pretties, fringing, braids.......and a portion of an old tapestry I unearthed at a market a little while ago. This tapestry hasn't been completed but I always love the look of a little threadbare. My sweet friends loves the look of a little threadbare as well. All the swirling and ruching of ribbons, embellishing with vintage pretties; and the hand stitching has been finished. This week I will sew up the bag; well at least that's the plan.

As it is Sunday, I am going to join in with  slow hand stitchers from all around the world, and enjoy a little stitching. My applique flower garden quilt is making an appearance once again. As summer inches its way to autumn I have decided I would love to re-acquaint myself with this pretty. Gazing upon my garden of applique flowers once more I am reminded just how much I love this pretty. I have psyched myself to begin the begin, the designing and stitching of the wisteria vine tangling it's away across the top. So, as I watch TV in just a little while I will happily stitch and embroider leaves onto the vine. Oh, and stitch a little birdie, too.

Thank you for visiting my little place where blue hydrangeas and pretty blue embellishments abound. Where wisteria vines begin to grow and sweet little birdies sing songs of praise. May your week be filled with many beautiful moments that inspire you, and cause you to smile❣

Until the next time...........

  9. I love hydrangeas and have never been able to grow them so as intensely blue as those in your beautiful garden your soil must be more acid than mine. I can remember when I visited New Zealand many years ago I was entranced by the number of beautiful hydrangeas I could see in peoples gardens. I had to leave mine behind when I moved here so the ones I have now are young plants and are mostly pink with the slightest touch of blue. The bag is going to be beautiful your friend will love it.

  12. Hydrangeas are a favorite of mine, too. As a kid, we would separate the flower and stick them to our fingernails after we licked them. We all had beautiful blue nails. ❤️

  14. Oh the hydrangea...I could say humble but with those colors and the 'hugeness' of the bloom...humble is not in their vocabulary. What fun to look out your window and see not only the hydrangeas but the green of your paradise. I just love fall as flowers put on the most glorious show then. The blue fabric for your 'lady in blue' is lovely - could it be that I see hydrangeas in it, too? I did see just a bit of tatting peeking out from all the ruched flowers - so, so sweet.

Although blue is a cool color, it looks like the a loving and warm color to you that suits you!
We also have hydrangeas in the garden, they look dry and dead, but in the summer they will shine again.
    Have a lovely sunday! ❤

  20. Thanks so much for sharing your lovely hydrangeas with us! They are gorgeous and also my favorite flowers. Mine are still looking like sticks right now, so it is a breath of fresh air to see your beautiful pictures! I can never keep the blue ones which are my favorite because of my soil composition. Love, love, love seeing yours! Happy stitching!

  23. Hi Kim, funny to think of you inching into autumn as we like to think we are inching into spring, but pretty much a white, snowy world out there still. That makes looking at your photos today so enjoyable, all that gorgeous colour. Beautiful needlepoint and applique too. Loved it all.

  28. A pretty blue-filled post! Your soil must be perfect for the hydrangeas to turn such a beautiful color. Do you recall the maker of that gorgeous blue hydrangea fabric that is artistically draped over a dress form? Thanks for sharing the beginnings of the threadbare bag. Delightful!

  29. I have some hydrangeas in my garden but none are blue! Yours are lovely! Love that little bird on the wisteria vine. Can’t wait to see more leaves and maybe some flowers on the vine by next week.

  30. Such beautiful colorful flowers, both the nature made and the hand made kinds. I am glad they are more spectacular than ever, probably because there is less pollution out there. It is nice to see them while we are covered with snow.

  31. Gosh those hydrangeas are stunning Kim. Mine have long since lost their glory now & I think I might have missed my chance for drying some. The new bag is rather stunning too!! Kim you need to pop over to YouTube some time & check out Parisienne Farmgirl's channel. About half a dozen posts back she took her hydrangeas & fashioned herself an entire skirt of them - I think you would love what she did - she is not actually in Paris either but in the USA - her channel is fabulous. Have a flower filled weed my friend xxxx

  36. Your brilliant blue hydrangeas are a balm for those of us stuck in a snowy landscape and I love your whimsical lady with her hydrangea dress and blue hair. I've had little luck growing hydrangea due to soil not acidic enough to get blue flowers, winters too cold for the bud to survives and deer and rabbits who munch the stalks. So I'll just stop by here and drink in yours. Yes, do savor your remaining days of warmth by soaking up as much outdoors as you can.

  37. When I was growing up in Ohio, the hydrangeas were almost all blue or purple ball shaped flowers. Here in my area of Tokyo, the variety is, to me, unbelievable. There are the usual ball shapes in such a variety of colors, but also lacy ones and framed ones and even climbing ones. Each year they would have a festival where you could walk a misty path through a sea of beauty. Even one house in my neighborhood has about a dozen different varieties along his wall, all in pots, and a bush at the corner as tall as a tree. I love that little butterfly that worked uts way into some of that beauty too.

  42. Your hydrangeas have been gorgeous this year. Their blue and purple blossoms are huge and so happy. I’m looking forward to the days my Annabelles and Limelights are blooming again. Your beautifully stitched purse will be a treasured gift and your friend will be so happy to receive it! We’re on a little get-away to the beach this week. J is playing golf and I’m crocheting, quilting and a little genealogy research with the beach as my view and enjoying a beach walk several times a day! It isn’t very warm but is sunny and lovely! Amazing what a change of scenery does for one’s mood. Wishing you a lovely week, dear Kim!
