Clamshell Party.....A Finish ❣

Hello lovely lovelies❣ A lovely Sunday morning welcome to you.  How has your week been?? I heard that some of you have been blasted by snowstorms, ice and torrential rain. Deary, deary me, it sounds much too chilly to me. I wonder if I should mention my week was a summery, warm one. No...oh okay......I'll move right along then, shall I?? Though, I hope you don't mind me waxing lyrical about my little quilty finish. I mean, it wouldn't be me if I didn't go on and on in a highly enthusiastic and effusive manner about the grand event of the finishing of a quilt. A momentous occasion such as this rarely happens here so I must celebrate....I simply must. =)

This week I "quilted until I wilted", and I have the needle-pricked fingers to prove it. Every day I put my head down and my derriere up and stitched until I finished Clamshell Party. I just wanted it done. Yep, the last stitch has been stitched. The quilting is done and the binding stitched. And, I must say I am  loving all my pretty little clamshells.

I started Clamshell Party last November. It is a simple quilt; a scrappy quilt where each little clamshell is filled with flowery loveliness. There was no plan really, just playing with each clamshell and placing them here, there, everywhere, in a fashion which was pleasing to my eyes.  The size of my clamshells are 4" and the quilt measures 52" by 73", a non standard size I know, but perfect for a chair-size throw. Clamshells are truly one of the simplest quilts to stitch. Little scraps of fabric were glued to the top of  clamshell papers and stitched together to sit next to each other in an orderly and straight line; well almost. Once you line up the first row of clamshells and stitch them to each other, the consecutive rows are fairly easy to keep even as they skip along the row in a straight line, hand stitching as you go. The quilting was simple, stitching 1/4" thereabouts, up, across, down in happy arches from one side across to the other.  Though, I didn't really measure, I just eye-balled the quilting line. I know....shame on me. For the border I quilted straight lines vertically and horizontally, framing the clamshells. For the binding, I cut binding from the backing fabric, which I also used for the border, as I wanted a seamless look for the border and binding. I wanted the binding and border to meld into one.

So, would you like to see my happy clamshells dancing with the flowers, and the flowers dancing with my happy clamshells?? Oh alright.......you have twisted my arm. =)

Clamshell Party was a fun quilt to fashion and being the size of a throw it was quick to stitch. Scrappy quilts where playing is the only prerequisite, with an explosion of patterns and colour, are always the best fun for me. I adore throwing vivid colour and pattern together. I have always considered Clamshells to be a lovely pattern and I have always wanted to make one. So I can now cross that off my quilty bucket list.

Thank you for visiting my little place where little clamshells and happy summery flowers dance, causing one to smile. In the not too distant future it will be your turn to smile at the flowers in your gardens and feel the kiss of warm sunshine on your cheeks.....and it will be my turn to cosy down. But.....I won't think about that now as I am going to delight in what summery time I have remaining, enjoying warm and sunny days in the garden, before Jack Frost throws his icy darts my way; for I know he will come. Have a lovely day, lovely lovelies. May you, this week, find sprinkles of sunshine and beauty in your everyday❣

Until the next time.......

    1. Sandi, the garden is looking rather beautiful at the moment that it seemed such a shame to not show off my little clamshell quilt dancing in the midst of it. There truly is nothing more spectacular nor, as you say, exuberant than nature....than a garden overspilling with floralicious delight. Thank you for your beautiful visit and sweet comments. Hoping you are enjoying a lovely weekend. Kim Xx

  4. Kim, you're quilt is just so beautiful that I've added clamshell quilt to my bucket list!!! Lovely photos. Do you have a pond on your property, with water lilies?

  5. Your quilt captures summer perfectly, Kim - no garden required! It's absolutely gorgeous and especially so in your beautiful garden. Each photo is so delightful and I found myself smiling and imagining the sounds of the birds and breezes carrying the scents along. The photo with the blooming water lily is amazing...I'm sure you were extra careful fastening the quilt in that shot :) How special it will be to cuddle up with your masterpiece once the cool weather comes your way. Sending hugs xo K

  7. How nice that your clamshell quilt is finished, and how beautiful it has become, you can rightly be very proud of this. Your photos are beautiful, it is really enjoyable how your quilt combines beautifully with your amazing garden.
We woke up this morning and there was a thick layer of snow!
It had blown here along with the northeast wind from Russia. The children will enjoy this and maybe they can skate this week, because they give off minus 10 degrees of frost.

    1. Your little world sounds freezing, Loes, though of course the children would think it fabulous, especially if they can skate. Me, as you know, prefers warm, sunny climes and happy flowers. =) Thank you for your sweet visit and lovely comments re my Clamshell Party quilt and the garden. My little clamshells look perfectly at home dancing among the flowers, don't they.

    1. Kay, you must make a clamshell quilt for yourself. I was surprised as to the ease with which my little clamshells grew, with not a lot of effort. Your little part of the world sounds just a wee bit chilly. I am going to make the most of the warmth and sunshine while it visits me. You know, Kay, I have already named the next quilt I am going to imagine and fashion....and guess what.....it's going to be all about flowers. =) And of course, there is my applique flower garden quilt that needs to be worked on. Too many projects....too little time. You have a great week, too, lovely Kay. Keep warm! Kim Xx

  11. I can't believe how quickly you managed to finish this work of art Kim it's absolutely beautiful and looks amazing with your lovely Summer garden as a backdrop. When you say you glue the clamshells to the clamshell papers can you tell me what kind of papers and do you leave them in? Sorry to be ignorant but the whole thing is magical to me and I would love to try it one day. It's very cold here just now and we are having flurries of snow, I will be sitting snug inside and working on my cross-stitch. Have a peaceful Sunday. Xx

Enjoy the summer and the heat you have, and we will wrap ourselves in wool and warm blankets for a while longer. We have an exceptionally beautiful winter here now. It has been many years since we have had such a cold. But spring is coming here too. Wish you a super nice week and hope the sun's rays warm and shine for you!

  24. What a glorious finish. And in my world done with amazing speed. How brave of you to hang it out above the pond. But my favorite photos are those with the dahlias which seem to flow directly into the clamshells with wild abandon. While clamshells are probably not in my future, I'd like to let my many floral fabrics play together, willy-nilly in random fashion. Thanks for another delightful romp through your fields of flowers. The snow is lightly falling and a deep freeze is on its way, so any sight of summer is a vision of hope.

  30. Clamshell Party is splendid! The curve of the shells are made for the flowery fabrics you chose. Eyeballing the quilted stitches is better than perfection. It all comes together organically! How wonderful it is all quilted despite tired and pricked fingers. You were motivated to finish that beauty! Looking forward to your next inspiring project.

  31. I absolutely adore this quilt! Scrappy quilts were my first love, and I still love them best. Clam Shells is just so happy and beautiful. I’m an eyeball quilter too. I admire those who pursue the perfection of an engineer, but that’s not me.

And I love hearing about summer in the midst of our winter. Although, I’m not one that has to contend with snow. Our winters here in the Las Vegas desert are really quite mild.

  43. A finished quilt is always a cause for celebration especially when you have a gorgeous quilt like this one. Clamshells have been on my to-make list for a long time too. I thought they were made on a foundation - I see that you didn't use one. There are so many quilts I want to make! I love all of your gorgeous photos and enjoyed seeing flowers and sunshine. We have sunshine this week but it isn't quite the same when you have to wear a coat to see it.

  44. How exciting, it looks fantastic!!! I just love how you did the straight line quilting on the border, I am going to have to remember that if I ever get my quilt done, love the way that looks! So nice to enjoy it among the garden pretties too, I especially love the picture where the quilt is hanging near the water and you can see the reflection of the quilt in the water, I have this thing with reflections in the water :) My second favorite is the quilt hanging on the open bottom section of the door and looking out through the top window portion, not only enjoy your lovely quilts but your artistic flair you give to your picture taking!! Oh do enjoy that lovely warmth while you have it, and I will concentrate on thoughts of spring :)

    1. Why hello Monique, It has been a very long time indeed, since you visited. How lovely of you to stop by. Yes, I am still blogging, still waxing lyrical about stuff and nonsense. I hope you are well. So you are coming to this little island. Fingers crossed that Covid doesn't raise it's ugly head and prevent you from coming. It's tricky, isn't it to make holiday plans; one never knows if what we plan will eventuate. Though here in Tassie, we have fared very well. Barring the couple of months of lockdown in March, April last year, we here have been able to travel around without any problems. Thank you for visiting and touching base again. Kim Xx

  50. Yes, dancin' - from Kim to the quilt, to the flowers, back to the quilt, and then to Kim again...what a frolic! I've been doing some hand-quilting and it's so hard to do a good job - let alone a fabulous job. Love the clamshells and I'm glad you finished a 'bucket list' quilt. You are right...we are in the midst of winter here with snow and more snow and COLD temps abound. Seems that every few days we have another layer of fresh snow which keeps things looking so wintery white and pristine. The snow banks where we pile up the snow are getting higher and higher. The layers of snow cover the yards to about 18 inches - lots of snow this winter. No need to tell you to stay 'warm' even though staying warm is generally our farewell greeting as people head out into the minus degrees of cold here. :)
