Clamshell Party.....A Finish ❣

Hello lovely lovelies❣ A lovely Sunday morning welcome to you.  How has your week been?? I heard that some of you have been blasted by snowstorms, ice and torrential rain. Deary, deary me, it sounds much too chilly to me. I wonder if I should mention my week was a summery, warm one. No...oh okay......I'll move right along then, shall I?? Though, I hope you don't mind me waxing lyrical about my little quilty finish. I mean, it wouldn't be me if I didn't go on and on in a highly enthusiastic and effusive manner about the grand event of the finishing of a quilt. A momentous occasion such as this rarely happens here so I must celebrate....I simply must. =)

This week I "quilted until I wilted", and I have the needle-pricked fingers to prove it. Every day I put my head down and my derriere up and stitched until I finished Clamshell Party. I just wanted it done. Yep, the last stitch has been stitched. The quilting is done and the binding stitched. And, I must say I am  loving all my pretty little clamshells.

I started Clamshell Party last November. It is a simple quilt; a scrappy quilt where each little clamshell is filled with flowery loveliness. There was no plan really, just playing with each clamshell and placing them here, there, everywhere, in a fashion which was pleasing to my eyes.  The size of my clamshells are 4" and the quilt measures 52" by 73", a non standard size I know, but perfect for a chair-size throw. Clamshells are truly one of the simplest quilts to stitch. Little scraps of fabric were glued to the top of  clamshell papers and stitched together to sit next to each other in an orderly and straight line; well almost. Once you line up the first row of clamshells and stitch them to each other, the consecutive rows are fairly easy to keep even as they skip along the row in a straight line, hand stitching as you go. The quilting was simple, stitching 1/4" thereabouts, up, across, down in happy arches from one side across to the other.  Though, I didn't really measure, I just eye-balled the quilting line. I know....shame on me. For the border I quilted straight lines vertically and horizontally, framing the clamshells. For the binding, I cut binding from the backing fabric, which I also used for the border, as I wanted a seamless look for the border and binding. I wanted the binding and border to meld into one.

So, would you like to see my happy clamshells dancing with the flowers, and the flowers dancing with my happy clamshells?? Oh alright.......you have twisted my arm. =)

Clamshell Party was a fun quilt to fashion and being the size of a throw it was quick to stitch. Scrappy quilts where playing is the only prerequisite, with an explosion of patterns and colour, are always the best fun for me. I adore throwing vivid colour and pattern together. I have always considered Clamshells to be a lovely pattern and I have always wanted to make one. So I can now cross that off my quilty bucket list.

In the not too distant future it will be your turn to smile at the flowers in your gardens and feel the kiss of warm sunshine on your cheeks.....and it will be my turn to cosy down. But.....I won't think about that now as I am going to delight in what summery time I have remaining, enjoying warm and sunny days in the garden, before Jack Frost throws his icy darts my way; for I know he will come.
