A Sunshiny Sunday Morning♡

Good Morning to you, lovely lovelies♡ 'Tis Sunday morning here at my little place and I do believe it's cup of tea time. But then, it's always a cup of tea time here at my humble home.

I've had a pleasant week just appreciating the simple things of life. With days of spring, sunshiny sunbeams casting warmth upon me, I have puttered about enjoying myself doing a little of this and a little of that; and sometimes, revelling in doing absolutely nothing at all.

A little gardening was 'enjoyed'. I use the word 'enjoyed' rather loosely as I don't really like getting down and dirty in the garden these days. Oh, dem old knees! Of course, I could cut bunch after bunch of flowers till the cows come home, but weeding, pruning and other labour intensive garden tasks, I'm just not a fan. My body is feeling a little old and creaky these days gardening for hours on end, and it seems to take so much longer. Thank goodness Pete loves to spend his days pottering about in the garden. I did a little pruning though. Our Waratah shrub was decimated in the storms a few weeks ago so it was in need of a good tidy-up. Such a pity, as Pete has for a couple of years now cajoled and teased it into the perfect shape. So we start again. As I gathered all the branches and flowers together I took these striking crimson blooms inside and captured the gorgeousness of these pretties in a happy snap or two.

Waratahs are gorgeous flowers consisting of many small flowers densely packed into a compact head or spike. The one in our garden is a vibrant crimson and the beauty is quite striking.

And the photos?? Just playing, really. I used a gorgeous fabric for the background.........Hollyhock Delight - Cottage Garden by Snow Leopard Des. Philip Jacobs. Love, love, love the blowsy flowers in those gorgeous colours. The Waratahs and fabric really do sing beautifully together. Of course books, teacups and a sweet machine sketched embroidery which I fashioned many moons ago were added.

I enjoyed a little hand quilting on my Crazy Flowers quilt, too. Hand quilting dizzingly round and round the scrappy flowers.  As it is Sunday I will quilt a little more for Slow Sunday Stitching.

I started another quilt. Oh dear! A little while ago I fashioned a charity quilt and as  I loved all the bright and happy squares of floral deliciousness, I decided I wanted one as well. So, I machine stitched many flowery blocks which are now waiting to be joined together in rows.

Oodles and oodles of floralicious delight sashaying in the spring sunshine.

I'm off to enjoy a little springtime sunshine and see what flowers there are in the garden to snippety snip. Sending you a little springtime, flowery love to you, lovely lovelies♡ Have a wonderful day♡

Until the next time.......

  1. Your flowers, both real and fabrics are very cheery. We're going into autumn and leaves are falling. I bought some daffodil bulbs to plant for spring. Happy stitching!

  2. Beautiful post Kim, shame about the storm damaging your waratah but lots of flowery lovelies to enjoy inside. Your new quilt is going to be gorgeous as was the last one! Windy and showery in Victoria today, the sun is hiding!

  4. looks like you have been busy with one thing or another. I have not had time to go back and read all the blogs I normally do since we got back from our vacation. It sounds like your garden is doing great and love that tea cup!

  5. Your waratah flowers are the most amazing shade of red. They will grace your home for ages, I'm imagining they have a much longer life than dainty cut flowers do. Your new floral blocks look so pretty, rather like the Happy blocks several of us stitch away for RSC projects. We enjoyed a perfect Spding day yesterday, warm enough for me to divest myself of my warm cozy hand knitted socks, and dispense with my cardigan. Today is much cooler and raining, but Soring us always rather fickle down here in New Zealand.

  6. I didn’t realise you could grow Waratah in Tassie. They are a striking flower. You have such a green thumb and the delightful Pete to keep your garden produce such beautiful blooms. Your projects are progressing well. Spring is definitely here. Enjoy!

  10. Totally new flower to me as well! I love the glimpses of spring as those of us in the norther hemisphere move into Autumn. It's still quite hot here in Kansas, which is unusual for us, our first frost date is technically next week and we are nowhere near freezing, even at night. I love your flower blocks, they will make a lovely quilt.

  14. Those Waratah are gorgeous! I've never seen those before. Both your quilt projects are really fun. Happy stitching this week. Enjoy the spring weather, hopefully, you won't have any more strong storms. It's supposed to be autumn here, but with highs in the 90s F it certainly doesn't feel like it.

  18. Gorgeous flowers. I have never heard of Waratah flowers, but love them. Love seeing your beautiful pictures. I have a lot of work to do outside and cleanup, need to get up earlier and get some work done before it gets too hot. Happy stitching Kim!

  19. LJ here. Waratahs are gorgeous; even the color is perfect! I'm usually a pastel kind-of-girl but the crimson is amazing. I know that you said the fabric background is Hollyhock Delight but I'm sure you realized that the crimson matched the crimson of the waratahs, too. Oh, I do wish that charity quilts were more a part of my life but I'm always so busy creating other things. Right now I'm on my second quilt out of the 3 high school graduation quilts I need. I am using the same pattern - more boring than I anticipated. Love the flowery blocks you've made charity or ones for yourself. I'm truly enjoying the fall weather we're having here though Helene was a doozy for those affected. Thank you for the spring pictures - a joy to be sure.

  24. Those flowers are incredible! I can see why you love them so much. Of course you know I'm beyond jealous because you're enjoying spring and we're going into fall. So far the temps haven't dropped too much but we know it's coming.
Yay for another pretty quilt from your clever hands - it will be a stunner, as always. Can't help but be when you use such luscious fabrics!
(ps. - I'll be MIA for a couple of weeks whilst we wing our way out west to visit our family. Can't wait for cuddles with three little grandies, although I suspect we'll be more than ready to come home to our quiet life afterwards!)

  29. I can hear it in your words how happy you are for spring to come, we are hearing talks that we may have our first frost next week, I was hoping to have many more peppers to come. My knees are not the best either so I do a lot of weed pulling by just bending over but that can put a toll on the old knees too.
Your flower squares are so pretty using all those blocks of lovely flowers!

  30. Hi Kim! Oh such lovely pink! I know what you mean about getting older when it comes to gardening. Ouch. The uneven ground doesn't help the aches and pains. Your quilt is beautiful and the squares hanging outside are gorgeous, too! love love Pom Pom
