A Quilt Finish♡

Hello lovely lovelies♡ A lovely welcome to you, this early Sunday morning♡ The sun is out and my little world is dancing with exuberant and joyful colour♡

I have a quilt finish. The charity quilt for a cancer fundraiser is finished. When last I chatted about this pretty I was deciding on how I would quilt it. Because I was going to do it on my sometimes obstropulous sewing machine it had to be an easy design. And easy it was. In pattern, that is. It wasn't necessarily a quick task to sew. I was reminded yet again just why I do not jump up and down with great glee with the thought of quilting on the sewing machine. The quilting took a week.......on and off. I had the stitching speed on a snail's pace as I found the stitches were irregular in length, even with a walking foot attachment. So thankful it's only a smallish quilt (it measures 48" by 64') because it was cumbersome and heavy to stitch in straight lines.  The tension too, was tricky at times, and my trusty unpick was called into action, many a time. Mmm....could be time for a new sewing machine, but I don't really want to mortgage my home. =)

I decided upon straight vertical and horizontal stitching lines within the sashing, half an inch apart. I didn't want to quilt in the floral squares as I wanted these to really pop. And pop they do! I love all the little squares of floralicious delight! As I was stitching, at times my inner 'Little Miss Persnickety' could not be contained. She escaped from time to time,  only too aware of some stitches.....lines.....meandering off the straight and narrow but when one looks at the finished quilt as a whole these aren't really noticeable. Well, I hope not. Because someone is going to win this quilt I wanted it to be pretty darn near perfect. Ahh....that persnickety inner me; sometimes she's a pain in the royal proverbial! But, you know the funny thing is, I wouldn't mind making a similar quilt with a plethora of jewel-like colours and exuberant florals all dancing together, to rest on my bed. Of course, I'd have to psyche myself up for the machine quilting, but as the quilt would be for me, Little Miss Persnickety wouldn't be too finicky.........would she??!! =)

This week I enjoyed more quilting on my Flower Meadow quilt. More quilting stitches  skipping around the hexie flowers. I will continue quilting Flower Meadow today for Slow Sunday Stitching. Slow, rhythmic hand quilting; such a wonderful way to spend many an enjoyable moment this sunny Sunday. I will settle down in a comfy chair, put my legs up and happily hand quilt away. Relaxed and comfy, not hunched over an obstropulous sewing machine;  reminded yet again why I prefer the slow meditative state of hand quilting.

I'm happy the fundraiser pretty is finished waiting to go home with someone. Fingers crossed that certain someone loves happy, glorious colour. =) Because this little quilt does indeed dance in exuberant and joyful colour. Have a wonderful Sunday, lovely lovelies♡ May you dance through your day with joyous colour twirling around you

Until the next time......

  4. the quilt turned out so lovely I think your machine stitching looks great!! I know what you mean about the expense of machines - they keep getting higher and higher all the time don't they. So many pretty photos

    1. Hi lovely Kay, thank you so much. I wouldn't mind winning this pretty quilt, if indeed I bought a ticket......I won't, though. =) You have a great week, too. Kim Xx

  6. This quilt turned out lovely! The quilting looks so nice. This is the kind of stitching to do on a machine, it would be dreadfully tedious to hand quilt the narrow lines. Happy stitching!

  7. A gorgeous quilt Kim ! And a good gesture...
Sewing machines are expensive but are tools for so much happiness aren't they ?
    Have a shinny week !

    1. Lovely Anna, though machines are tools for happiness, I still have to save my pennies for the sewing machine I have my eye on. =) Thank you for your sweet words re my little quilt. You have a "shinny" week, too. Kim Xx

  8. Great quilt for the fundraiser. So colourful and your quilting suits it perfectly. Slow and steady wins the race with walking foot quilting. Enjoy your hand quilting time this week. I am considering hand quilting a wall hanging—-it does not want to be machine quilted as I had planned. Bossy quilt! Gail at the Cozy Quilter

    1. Gail, I seem to have lost your email so I'll reply here. =) It seems most every quilt of mine throws a hissy fit and demands not to be quilted on the sewing machine. Such a pain! I much prefer the gentle art of hand quilting. Enjoy hand quilting that "bossy" wall hanging of yours, when indeed you begin. Kim Xx

  9. Oooh, the fund raiser quilt turned out beautifully. The quilting looks great, so all your care paid off. The hexie quilt is such a riot of color and blooms. Enjoy the view as you slow stitch today.

  10. That is such a pretty quilt, Kim! Your quilting is perfect for it. I agree, though - machine quilting isn't necessarily a fast way to finish a quilt, and those straight lines can be challenging to keep straight. It's a good feeling of accomplishment when you're done! I love your photos with all the flowers, too. Someone is definitely going to love that quilt!

  11. Dear Kim, I immediately took a close look at your quilting with sewing machine I've only recently tried it... after some satisfactory results I decided to buy a feed foot... and now I've come to the conclusion that that I actually need a sewing table - and I can't mount it on my machine. What does that tell us, I do little things first - like runners :-))) You're right, the sewing machine controls our activity, not us ourselves.
When I see you working on your quilt by hand in an armchair with your legs up - I see the relaxation because you are controlling what is happening with your needle in your hand.
    I wish you much joy.
A big hug comes to you from Viola.
    Cheerful an happy.

    1. Viola, there is always that other something needed to make our sewing machine more agreeable, isn't there??. =) Well done you, for your quilting-on-the-machine triumphs. I much prefer the gentle aesthetics of hand quilting; both for the mind and body. Also, I much prefer the texture and look of a hand quilted quilt. Nothing compares to a squishy-squashy hand quilted quilt. Sending you many hugs, lovely Viola. Enjoy a beautiful week. Kim Xx

  12. That fund raiser quilt is beautiful. Your machine quilting came out just fine. I love the exuberance of color in this quilt. Your hand quilting is looking great also. I think I may find a comfy chair and do some hand quilting when I am done at the computer. You make it sound so peaceful.

  13. Your fundraiser quilt is beautiful and your machine quilting looks perfect to me but I agree that machine quilting isn't so enjoyable as hand stitching. Your Flower Meadow is a beauty :)

  16. What fun to have two delightful flowery quilts to be working on. Hand quilting is more relaxing vs fiddling with a machine. Have you considered having the machine professionally serviced/cleaned. Another kindly suggestion is to think about buying a used machine perhaps from a reputable dealer and or someone you know. My three machines had previous owners. Wise choice on straight-line design as its important to have the flowered squares pop. Nice clean look!

  17. Gorgeous finish Kim! Tell your inner Ms. Persnickety to get lost! Love your hexies too. Always so lovely to visit your part of the world and see what you are up to!

  18. Your new quilt looks lovely, full of pretty flowers and the quilting lines certainly show the bouquets off beautifully. Machine quilting is not easy, moving the bulk around.

  19. Its beautiful Kim ... bright & jazzy & some lucky recipient will treasure it I am sure. I think it would look great on the end of a bed or drapped over a sofa. Love all the floral fancies in it. I really like how you have quilted it. Wishing you a creative week dear Kim xx

  20. Wow, your quilt is an explosion of colors and flowers, and you did a great job machine quilting it. Those lines look pretty straight to me, and they are the perfect frame for these lovely floral squares. Lovely green binding, and soft grey backing!
Enjoy hand quilting your gorgeous Flower Meadow quilt ;)

  22. Straight line quilting is harder than it looks... at least in my opinion! Regardless - the quilt is beautiful! I love the result.

  23. Both of your quilt are so cheery and colorful. I'm sure the fundraiser quilt will find a welcome home and make money for the charity. And the hexie quilt fills me with pleasure, but it would take me forever to sew the hexies and to hand quilt it, well I probably wouldn't live long enough to see it done.

  24. I think the line quilting was the perfect thing for this quilt, I understand with the machine quilting, trying to get all that bulk just right can be a bit of a problem that is for sure. Such great bright colors, you just can't help but smile looking at it. Beautiful quilt!

  25. That is just a beautiful quilt Kim, so much joy and colour, doesn't matter if the lines of stitching are a bit uneven here and there, it is all art of the happiness. I am sure the new owner will cherish it.

  28. LJ here. :) A bit later than usual but I've been cleaning!! Lots of rain the past few days but today and tomorrow are to be sunny. I'm off to the garden center to pick up flowers for the garden, flower beds, and pots, too. the garden is all planted and the fence (to keep the bunnies and chipmunks out) is up. Just flowers from here on in.
Your charity quilt is gorgeous and whomever gets it will love the flowers and all the bright colors. I do think you chose a difficult quilting design - sounds easy enough until you need to SEW a straight line! It usually goes faster than hand quilting but then...you are a master hand quilter.
In the pictures you shared, I was wondering about the throw you placed under the flower vase. Is it crocheted? It goes perfectly with your newest finish.
Flower Meadow is progressing so well. Before you know it, it'll be finished, too.

  31. Such a pretty, happy quilt, Kim, I'm sure someone is going to love it! So nice to donate it for charity, too. Your photos are so lovely with the flowers and in the greenhouse. The flower garden quilt is just amazing. It must be so nice to sit under the warmth of it while you stitch away. All the pretty fabrics can't help but make a person smile. I have been so busy lately and haven't been visiting as often as I would like. I have most of my flowers potted up for summer and the gardens are tidy, so I can finally take a break. Plus, it is a cool and rainy day so I am stuck inside. I don't have a beautiful quilt to work on, though, so I will enjoy yours. Sending hugs xo K

  33. Your finish is just lovely. What more can I say? The quilting on it is perfect as well. Honestly, everything in your home is just framed so beautifully by your style. It is a delight to visit.

  34. I know, for certain, that someone will be so thrilled with your quilt - and I suspect there will be several someone's vying for the honour of giving it a good home. A wee side note that I'm sure you are very well aware of - I use painter's tape to help with keeping my machine quilted lines straight. Make sure it's not masking tape though because it leaves a residue on the fabric (learned that one the hard way).
