Hello lovely lovelies♡ Welcome to my little place, this lovely Sunday afternoon♡ How has your week been?? Mine was crazy busy with not a lot of time for the quilting of my Hydrangea Cobblestones quilt. Sunday has rolled around again; and being thoroughly exhausted from this past week, I have spent today cutting pretty snippets of fabric, turning them into little EPP pentagons for a new quilt. Yes indeed, I fear I have started a new quilt. I didn't mean to, because I am quilting my Hydrangea Cobblestones, but my wrist is a little sore from all the hand quilting the previous week, so I thought I might start stitching a little gentle, English paper piecing, pretty. Just to mix my hand stitching up a bit.
I happened upon a pattern late last year which caught my eye. It is a pattern designed by Hugs 'n Kisses. The pattern is called Fairy Floss, but of course I will give my quilt a different moniker. =) I rarely buy patterns, but what grabbed my attention with this one was the design of the little EPP pieces dancing around in circles. They are like little jewels skipping around and around. It reminds me of a wedding ring quilt; a design which I have always loved. Also, it contained all the paper pieces so I threw caution to the wind and purchased it. I am not going to make my quilt exactly as the pattern; as I would like to put my own creative slant to the quilt. It has been a little while since I have scratched my itch to play with fabric scraps, and enjoy a little english paper piecing♡
Another quilt where I will dive into my fabrics and scraps, and snippety snip smidgens of fabric with ditsy, flowery patterns. I will throw in some of my Liberty scraps, too. How lovely♡ It is always a very good day when there is a hint of Liberty loveliness♡ I rather love the grey background on the quilt in the pattern, so I am using a Kona fabric in the shade of Slate. The camera doesn't really capture the true shade but it is a lovely grey with just a hint of mauve. 'Tis so pretty♡
A little stitching of flowery jewels was a lovely way to enjoy my Sunday afternoon. Gentle hand stitching, with cups of tea thrown in for good measure. Gotta love a lazy Sunday afternoon♡ I will continue stitching my little pretties later this evening. Hoping, when your Sunday comes a-knocking on your front door, it is a pleasant one sprinkled with a little joy and oodles of loveliness♡ Perhaps take a little time to smell the roses♡ I must say the roses here, smiling at me while I stitch, are beyond intoxicating♡

Oh my goodness Kim talk about coincidence we have both been playing with pentagons at the same time! I've had so much fun with mine and am really reluctant to let them go so I'm really interested in this lovely quilt you have started, your pentagons are so pretty and I can't wait to see how the quilt develops. ReplyDeleteA new project and what a fun one too! All those pretty floral fabrics to play with and just the start at this post made my fingers itch to make a start with some fabrics too. Alas, my current projects needs to be done first, before anything new can be added to it. Love the modern and fun slate background. It makes all those beautiful fabrics pop!

I love the fairy floss design… good on you for buying the pattern and your pentagons are darling laid out with flowers so pretty… take good care of your wtrist and don’t stress it! Well, you're off to the races with a new project. Looking forward to seeing what adaptations you make. Your bouquet of roses is so beautiful and so perfect that they almost don't seem real. But we all know there is no room for fake flowers in your world unless they are made from fabric. Having an early dinner out with my daughter now that the restrictions are being loosened. Who knows how long that will last, so we will make hay while the sun shines, as they say, even though the sun isn't shining yet today.

That looks like an amazing pattern, and will be pretty in all your florals! It's probably a good idea to vary your hand and wrist movements so that you don't overdo one motion or set of muscles. (Therefore, a good reason to start a new project!) Have a wonderful week, Kim!

ReplyDeleteThat looks like a fun pattern! Is is good to have a few things on the go at any one time so you don’t get bored!!! I like to have choices. Your liberty prints are perfect for this pattern. The gray shoes them off nicely. Lovely roses too.

ReplyDeleteI am having the most relaxing time, Loes, playing with all my pretty scraps of fabrics, placing them here and there, causing them to skip around in circles. It's rather akin to skipping around and around the garden path. =) Why......the name of this quilt could include the word "Garden" in it somewhere.....who would've thunk it. =) Kim Xx
DeleteOne should start whenever the 'creation' says you should. I can't wait to see how all this piecing turns out. What changes will you be making? Is the pattern set up to do all hand piecing as in these EPP pieces? I think I may have smelled the aroma of your roses even here - we are having a few warmer days and outside smells get me all excited! BTW, is your vase a mug or a pitcher? Either is wonderful though pitchers hold a special spot in my heart.

What fun to dive into your scrap bin to choose just the right pieces to add. You are a true inspiration, Kim! I'm spending time on the east coast with J, who is playing golf, and a cousin who has come down from Maryland to visit with me. ReplyDeleteKim - I am currently in Utah, visiting my brother and his wife. My sister-in-law is a terrific quilter, and I always enjoy coming here and seeing what she has created since our last visit. ReplyDeleteI've been steadily building my stash of Tilda fabrics which I think are similar to Liberty but maybe not as costly. I intend to use them in EPP possibly too. I've purchased PDF patterns from Hugs n Kisses in the past. I must go look at Fairy Floss. You have made a delightful start there. It is frustrating that greys and blues are hard to depict their true shade. Thank you for the inspiration as always, Kim!

ReplyDeleteI can see why you might succumb to that lovely pattern. I'm still struggling with what to do with all the hexxies I created a couple of years ago (was it longer than that?!). I can't seem to come up with a setting that appeals. I really wanted to make the hexxies but now the oomph has left my train on that one.
