Hello lovely lovelies❣ How has your week been? Mine vanished in a whirl of rain, hail, wind.....and a little sunshine. One more week of my least favourite season done and dusted. Goodness me, I wish my life away, don't I. Though, if Old Man Winter always behaved like he did today.....whipping up a beautiful, sunny kinda day, then perhaps I would regard him more highly. =)
The painting of the cupboards is finished. While painting this week, I almost reconsidered my propensity for slapping on paint all over wood.....almost. =) My paintbrush lives to see yet another day; safely stored away for the next furniture paint job. Thankfully the mythological wood gods did not heap fire upon me and my cupboards...and paintbrush; turning everything (and everyone....me) into a pile of ashes. But then, hot flames would have warmed me.
This week was a little same ol', same ol'. A little more organising of my sewing room and the culling of stuff happened. I am a little bit over whipping all my stuff into a tidy fashion. Wish oh wish my fairy godmother would swoosh in and with a wave of her wand make everything orderly again. A lot of my pretties are stored away in suitcases which I have acquired over the years. Suitcases are fabulous for storage and they look great, too. Well, I think they do. So, in order for me to remember what lies within the holdalls I fashioned some pretty tags to provide a visual for my muddly brain. I used snippets of fabric for the tags, stiffening each fabric tag with Mod Podge. I then wrote the contents of each suitcase on itty bitty paper doilies, gluing the doilies onto the tags. I really, really have way too much time on my hands. =) Remember.....it's all about the look❣
It was a week where I also snatched moments to read, shop in a fabulous new store (found the perfect tea towel) and watched the Aussies (and the rest of the world's athletes) perform amazing feats in the Olympic arena.
My 'wall' of bright and colourful leaves edged with the bias strips received a little of my attention on Flowers In Her Hair, Flowers Everywhere quilt. Just one more strip to be stitched and then the wall should be done.....I think. Why I say this is because I will design a little more this week and play with more details. I might find that I need to lengthen the wallpaper a little more. This is what happens when one makes it up as one goes along. Hopefully, I will stitch the remaining strip later this evening and join the lovely band of slow stitchers over at Kathy's place.
My husband took this fabulous photo the other night of God's sky. The sky never ceases to enthrall and delight with the brushstrokes of The Master Painter. Can you see the hand?? It reminded us both of the verse in Proverbs of God holding him, me.....and you.....in the palm of His hand. A beautiful reminder of God's grace, care and love in these deeply troubling times we find ourselves in. Even though these times are dark, bewildering and just so menacing; and so, so sad, no matter what comes my way, God is holding me in the palm of His hand❣ Indeed, the sky beaming a smile from God, upon me❣
Upon thinking of me being safely held in God's hand, I happened upon this you tube clip of Alison Kraus singing The Palm of Your Hand........just beautiful. I know there is no better place I would rather be; in the good times, the not so good times, those impossible times, than in the palm of God's hand. So very thankful for His grace and love. He sustains me when life can be pretty grim❣
May your week be one with smiles from God sprinkled here, there and everywhere❣ May you know that He loves you❣ God bless you❣
Until the next time..........
Hi Kim
ReplyDeleteYes the photos do look like a hand. Wish I could come round and look through your suitcases at all the treasures. Had a look at all your hexagon quilts etc. You must be very proud of all your wonderful things you have made. Weather much the same here, rain wind and a little sunshine.
Have a great week.
Best wishes Kay c XX
Kay, wouldn't it be wonderful if you could visit in person and rummage through my suitcases, and see what treasures are hidden within. Why, you could take some pretties home with you. It is amazing to look back at all the pretties I have fashioned. One forgets what one has made. Let us hope this coming week, that you and I, Kay, have sunshiny days. Have a beautiful week. Kim Xx
DeleteIt sounds like a great week with a little bit of this and that! When I tidy my work room I loose things so putting tags on those little cases is an excellent idea. I used to own a vanity case like the blue one.....goodness knows what happened to it! Have a great week
ReplyDeleteI am with you, Kim. For sure winter is my least favourite season of the year. But we need to pass through it to smell the flowers during Spring.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos. Thanks for sharing them with us. Have a blessed week.
I love how peaceful I feel while reading your blog. Alison Kraus is one of my favorites and loved listening to her song about grace and faith.
ReplyDeleteThe cloud pictures. . . so amazing.
Your sewing room looks so wonderful. You're right, the luggage is a great place to store your things prettily, especially with the labels. Now that you have some practice, you can do my sewing room!
ReplyDeleteCicero was a wise man. What a sweet whimsical place you have created, Kim! I specially like the photos where the ribbons are flowing out of the boxes.

Your suitcases are a great storage idea and definitely do look fun stacked up here and there! I love the poster about a garden and a library, too. Even though I'm not much of a gardener, I do love flowers, and anything pretty that grows in my garden gets to stay! Enjoy working on your Flowers Everywhere project, Kim!
ReplyDeleteHello, Dear Kim, so nice to catch a little glimpse of your very tidy sewing room! I love the little tags and what a great idea to store things in the vintage suitcases. Your fabric cases are wonderful, too, and being a visual type, so nice to see them all through the glass! We could use a little rain here - it has been very dry all summer. I love painting furniture and I haven't visited in a while (been painting lots of things of my own), so I will scroll down to catch up with you. Lovely photos of the sky and wonderful sentiments. We all need a little hope and comfort these days. Sending hugs xx K
ReplyDeleteAdorable post, dear Kim...Such beauty...Thank you for the pretty flowers, the beautiful video and the fantastic sky. What charming room!It is a pleasure to visit.Gorgeous fabrics and quilts.Love those suitcases and the wonderful crocheted curtain.Hugs and blessings.
ReplyDeleteYou are so very kind, lovely Maristella, both with your sweet visit and your beautiful words. Why, you have sprinkled much joy into my day. Enjoy a blessed week, beautiful lady. Kim Xx
Deletethose are some great suitcases, I love your tag idea and yes they are very pretty tags too :) Wow those are some amazing photos your husband took and I love the song that came to mind, I don't think I had heard it before. It won't be long and you will have spring on your doorstep :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful organization. I never thought of using suitcases. I also like painted furniture. John made me a dresser and a display case for my dolls, and I painted it blue and stenciled flowers on it. I also have another cabinet with a big sunflower. I also have a cabinet in my sewing room that is stenciled and has Lady Liberty on it. I do also love the wood furniture he made me. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Svetlana. Your lovely visit and sweet comments have put sunshine in my wintry day. Kim Xx
ReplyDeleteHello Kim,
ReplyDeleteWhat a joy to see your beautiful sewing room with all those lovelies scattered here and there.. I am sitting quietly stitching while my beloved is out on the golf course. I so enjoy these quiet moments on cooler days sitting with the little heater at my feet and passing my needle in and out of the linen. I am slowly stitching samplers to adorn my walls again and hexies are slowly coming together into a little quilt to drape over a couch. Thank you for the inspiration and that Hand of our Father in the clouds. I feel so humbled by the blessings He has bestowed on us since the fire on New Years Eve 2019. We have truely experienced that verse “the greatest of these is love”
Blessings Gail.
Hello lovely Gail♡ If anyone has truly experienced the love and grace of our Father, in the most difficult of circumstances, it is you and your family♡ Your beautiful heart and story continually inspires me♡ I can see you in my mind's eye sitting by a little heater, trying to warm yourself in these chilly days. I smile at the thought that you are enjoying some lovely hand stitching; and of course, if you are enjoying a little hexie sewing, then all must be well. =) Spring will soon be here, and you and I will have no need for heaters, as the glowing sunshine and pretty flowers will warm our days. May our Father fill your week with many smiles and blessings, lovely Gail♡ Kim Xx
DeleteThank you for a lovely flowery start to my day - your beautifully organised storage is amazing! xx
ReplyDeleteHappy August, dear Kim! I will begin at the end, with that beautiful sky and reflective song by Alison Kraus (whose voice is like a sweet songbird)....so gorgeous. Your winter activities are, to me, the best kind - organizing, getting projects completed, and taking in each bright day that comes among the gloomy ones of winter. Your craft room view from the top looks a bit frightening should one misstep off the apparent ladder on which you were standing. I think of these things as I grow older.....wondering if I'll just leave those things might high, only for someone else to find as my treasures.....
ReplyDeleteOooh your wall of storage looks so organized and wonderful, Kim. Using pretty suitcases adds such an interest and solution to storage. I love those doily tags...great idea! Of course, your quilt is a gorgeous art work in your room. Yes!! I see the hand of God in the glorious photo. ππ»ππ»ππ»
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful photo your husband captured of the hand lifting us up. Truly a beautiful shot and thought. I have a small plaque with the garden and library quote that was given to me when I retired (public librarian). Your studio looks so well-organized and cheerful. Mine needs some serious attention, but that must wait for cooler temperatures to arrive here (yes, I know they are coming, just like clockwork). Enjoy your week, hope it's filled with more sunshine than rain.
ReplyDeletePat
Hi Kim, what an amazing photo. Thanks for the reminder- it's easy to forget that we are cared for. I love your suitcases. I imagine there aren't too many changes in their content, unless your making these lovely tags often! Take care ππ. Old man winter will surely give way to Princess Spring eventually.
ReplyDeleteWow! The photos are magnificent!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing your sewing room, and if I were there, I would lose myself there for hours!! Wishing you a fab week ahead!
Fun tags. What a fantastic photo of the sky!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful vignettes, vintage suitcases, photos of the beautiful of God's sky, and I enjoyed listening to In the Palm of Your Hand!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful sewing room, Kim. Everything is so organized and pretty. Love your vintage suitcases and great ideas on making the tags. Vintage suitcases are getting harder and harder to find in our area.Have a wonderful week, my dear and hope ole' man winter brings you some more sunny days.
ReplyDeleteYou have the perfect room to sew and create Kim ! With flowers outside and inside ! Everything in place, lovely tags and gorgeous vintage suitcases !
ReplyDeleteI have the garden and the library...I'm lucky...you too :)
Beautiful sky ! Congrats to the husband !
Have a nice day !
Hug
Anna
The suitcases are a great place to store fabric! Your sewing space looks very neat and tidy. Mine has room for improvement at the moment! Lovely fabrics in storage there...can’t wait to see what you add to your current project next.
ReplyDeleteKim, thank you for sharing your husband's incredible photo!! Yes, I see God's hand and that song came immediately to my mind, as well! Your organizing project is coming along splendidly. How clever (and appropriate) to use fabric scraps to create labels for your storage cases. I wouldn't have thought about using Modge Podge to stiffen them but it worked wonderfully. Doesn't it feel like a true accomplishment to have an area cleaned and organized? Am I the only one who can't help casually walking by it just to enjoy the fruits of my labor?? Ha! We've just returned from a little get away to the North. It's a rather remote place so enjoyed outdoor time safely. Covid numbers are again starting to spike, in fact (southern) Missouri has been a real hotspot lately. [One reason we traveled the other direction!] Don't fret about the weather, the seasons will change soon and you will again be dancing in your beautiful flower gardens before you know it! I'm wishing you a lovely and healthy week! Z
ReplyDeleteEverything is is looking so lovely and flowery in your neck of the woods, it's hard to believe it's Winter there. The sun has certainly turned and is striding back southwards towards you but, hopefully, he'll be with us for a while yet. I enjoyed seeing all your wonderful storage. I especially love those suitcases :)
ReplyDeleteYou’ve certainly had some wild, wintry weather. It’s been very windy here and we need a little rain. Your pretty flowers nd fabrics ways cheer me up.
ReplyDeleteI loved everything about this post. It is like a sauna here, so be careful what you wish for. I love that picture, and though the words are familiar, I had never heard that beautiful song before. Thanks so much for sharing. God's hand is here, even when it doesn't show in such a dramatic way.
ReplyDeleteDear Kim, your white cabinet looks great! You have really, I mean REALLY lot of stuff :) But the sewing room is so well organized! Very cozy.
ReplyDeleteHold on - spring is coming!!!
Alina, you should have seen my sewing room before I culled a lot of the stuff. =) But then, someone who creates most every day and lives hours away from shops needs their own little haberdashery on hand. Let's just say I am not a minimalist. To me more is never enough. =) BUT....it has to be tidy and organised. Yes, spring is coming. The garden is beginning to come to life, every so slowly, and there is just the slightest change in the light. Kim Xx
ReplyDeleteYou always have so much to say and I think I should respond to all. Thank you, Kim, for making reading blogs so much fun, interesting, and informative for me. Love...
ReplyDeleteThat is a fantastic picture - absolutely amazing that clouds can make a person all warm inside when we think about the hand of God. Thank you, Pete. I enjoyed the video you shared with us, too. Wonderful.
Your organization is shining with all your work. When I see those shelves with the suitcases and the bins, too, I can see that you are much more organized than you think. The suitcase tags are perfect - it's going to be a joy when you pull the first one down to use.
That quilt! Your vision is spot on. You create such beauty and all with just your little ol' brain working so brilliantly. I envy your enchanting ability to do that. It may seem like 'same old' to you but it's astounding to me. :)
Hope the sun-shiny weather continues for you. Sunshine in winter is splendid.
Beautiful post Kim, the sky photo is beautiful. Love your suitcases and labels, so pretty.
ReplyDeleteYou're lucky to have a such furnished sewing room!!;) Love your suitcases too!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week-end
I am very fortunate to be surrounded by all my pretties in my sewing room. It is a very happy day when I hide in there and throw fabric, ribbons and bits and bobs up in there air and create. Thank you for visiting my little place, Roberta. Your beautiful words have sprinkled sunshine into my day. Kim Xx
DeleteOh my goodness - that photo of God's hand in the sky, how amazing is that! What are the chances of ever seeing anything like that, much less being able to photograph it. Seeing that, prefaced with my idea of heaven on earth (a beautiful studio space filled with inspiration)....what could be better?
ReplyDeleteKim - my daughter would be so envious of your collection of suitcases - she is obsessed with vintage cases. And my, you have truly gotten organized, and in such a pretty way with those doily tags. It has been a FABULOUS week because our son was offered and has accepted an engineering job, following more than a year of searching. Praise God!
ReplyDeleteYes, just the perfect sewing room, how can one not be inspired by such an array of beauty and colour. So many pretty fabrics, ribbons and ornaments. Clever sky photo.
ReplyDeleteOh, I wish there was a fairy godmother to come and sort out my sewing room!
ReplyDeleteSuitcases - a great idea! Your room looks so nice, I am jealous. Whenever I decide to do something about my room, I usually get distracted and get taken in a different direction completely, LOL!
I need to do some culling of my own, I think - and there comes the problem, I can't bear to do that for real... may be in the autumn, when I will have to spend more time inside....I am not promising anything..... ;-)
