Hello lovely lovelies❣ The fondest of greetings to you❣ I hope you are well, enjoying your weekend. I have delighted in a lovely weekend; oodles of gardening, much too much drinking of tea, playing with pretty fabrics, and a little hand stitching. Here at my little place the smooth, gliding steps of the Spring Waltz is nearing an end. Summer is waiting in the wings to step and slide onto the stage, delighting all who gaze upon the beauty that summer gifts. I can feel a touch of the warm breath of summer whispering on my cheek, just a little. There is a sense of warm summer air beginning to pervade the landscape.
I cannot believe the Waltz of Spring is nearly over. Every year it is the same. Every year it floats by much too quickly. Here at my little place there is always much ado about spring. After what invariably seems like an over-long winter, spring slowly takes its place on the stage, where day after day, blooms dance in the gentle breeze. First it is the appearance of the daffodils and jonquils; then the waratahs, tulips, bluebells, camellias, cherry blossoms, azaleas, forget-me-nots, irises, granny bonnets, foxgloves, rhododendrons, lilacs.....so, so many blossoms all doing their thing....just blooming beautifully.
With just a touch of the breath of summer the first rose buds are beginning to unfurl their delicate petals, filling the air with intoxicating perfumes. Each rose different, each scent divine. There is one rose bush which has exploded into frothy, peachy pink gorgeousness. So, so very pretty.
This week I enjoyed a little more stitching of my clamshells. Not a lot, as the garden demanded that time be spent in it. Gardens at this time of year are a never ending battle. Oh, the weeds!! I stitched five more rows of clamshells onto the quilt. With every row that is added I cannot help but smile. Each clamshell dances with gorgeous colour and the prettiest of patterns. Truly, this quilt is scrappy deliciousness at its very best.

Your roses are lovely. Gardens are very demanding but it feels so good to work outside in the warm sun. I've potted my Amaryllis bulbs and hope for some lovely indoor blooms in January and February. Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteOur gardens have been put to bed for the winter. I also love spring flowers...something new everyday...for now, I will just enjoy tea and my fireplace! Five rows of clamshells! That’s a lot of hand stitching. Good for you!

ReplyDeleteYour clam shells are really coming along nicely. Oh, I can just smell the scent of your beautiful flowers. Right now I have a cinnamon candle burning to make the house smell like Christmas. You can never start too early with that scent in my opinion.

ReplyDeleteI miss spring so much. We are going to have snow in a few days. I have been putting out Christmas things and next weekend we will be going out for a tree. I love this time of the year. Your clamshell quilt is coming along beautifully.

ReplyDeleteYour Spring photos are always welcome here in the northern hemisphere! We are heading for winter here in the Rocky Mountains which has its own kind of beauty, but I'm already looking forward to Spring. I love those clamshells, Kim - so pretty!

I so agree that both Spring and Fall seemed to go by so very quickly :(

Ahhhh. Yay for progress on your clam shells (and your battle against the weeds). Funny that you should mention waltzing... I had just dreamed of waltzing under a full moon after covid (I know it was after covid, since the dancers were maskless and I was bumbling about forgetting how to follow). :-)

I admire how you put together a random grouping of pretty florals. I need to do that, but probably not with clam shells. Enjoy your journey into summer. Strange to think of your colourful spring while outside we have had our first hard frost of the season - and oh so beautiful it was too, sparkling in the sunshine. It has been a beautiful day but has not really warmed up. I am just watching the birds tucking in to their last meal of the day as soon it will be dark. I need to go out and cover a few plants and close up the greenhouse. Enjoy your summer days. xx

Nice to see your flowery post as the cold of winter seeps in. The clam shells are getting along nicely. I would find it hard adding a row at a time. Wish I could be there to pull your weeds. I don't have enough of my own and have to go to the park to find more to pull.

ReplyDeleteI simply can't imagine having that many beautiful roses in my hands at one time. Your climate must be ideal for them. I was actually surprised when you said the spring was pretty much over and thought 'wait' but how can that be? Fall is just getting underway here. Then I returned to reality and remembered that we're already entering winter. Sigh. I was rather enjoying living in denial....
