A wee quilt for a wee girl ❣

Hello lovely lovelies❣ A beautiful welcome to you on this Sunday morning. Spring is unfurling it's loveliness down here. The fragrances and visual gorgeousness are intoxicating my little spring place. As I sit here I am drinking in the perfumed, visual delight. Drinking in the miracle of this new morning that God has gifted me. Drinking in the miracle of each exquisite flower that pops up in the garden; the daffodils, waratahs, rhododendrons, camellias, tulips......the diosma; these are the flowers that are making my heart joyful at the moment.

When last you visited I spoke of Maisie being well and healing nicely. Now, before you say "Oh no...what's happened?" let me say that Maisie is hunky dory but after my last post she proved once again that she is up there with Houdini, that great escapologist of old. Yep,  she decided once again that the grass is sooooooo much greener in dem dar paddocks  on the other side of the impossibly high fence. Yet again she donned her invisible wings and escaped! But all's good. After several days of me and my good husband searching high and low for her, to no avail, she turned up at our door, late in the  night, looking a tad woeful.  She was putrid,  exhausted and starving, and, by all appearances, it's safe to say there are exactly the same number of ducks swimming in the pond that were there before 'sweet' Maisie's adventure. No, my spaniel, which those in the know say is a hunting breed, didn't hunt any animals. I have a sneaky suspicion she might just well fail the doggy hunting school.......which is a good thing. But, after another couple of days filled with much needed rest and snoozing, a belly gurgling with doggy food, she is back to her 'normal' sweet self.

Let us hope that the memory of wandering kilometre after kilometre for two days, padding along dusty roads and paddock after paddock,  sleeping in freezing, wet grass and starving for two days, that she has decided that the outside world is not what it is cracked up to be; that the grass is not at  all greener on the other side of that very tempting fence. That life is so much better here, where she can sniff out the critters in 'her' beautiful garden, snoozing whenever she likes on her oh-so-soft bed and have a deliciously, doggy meal sprinkled with treats, every day. Let us hope that the only walks she goes on is with the safety of her very accommodating mistress. Fingers crossed! Let us hope she remembers she is getting on in years and much too old for such escapades! Let us hope that the memory of the sorest of paws which took days to walk on will be enough to prevent her from absconding again. We think some horses spooked her because this behaviour is unusual, even for her. I must say that this community in which we live were wonderful in letting us know when they sighted her. Social media and people sharing posts far and wide is a most excellent thing when it comes to tracking lost pets.

Besides playing detectives and putting my sleuthing abilities to use, I have been skipping along the merry hexie EPP path to once again play with triangles and diamonds, and other shapes to fashion a whimsical quilt for my lifelong friend's, two year old granddaughter, Lucy. A simple quilt filled with oodles and oodles of 1930 prints and a sprinkling of whimsical prints for good measure. I am reusing my papers from my Sweet Sunday quilt and fabrics from my stash.

This is a sweet quilt where little boys and girls play in meadows, frolicking with sweet kitties and puppy dogs, bunnies hoppity hopping through flowers, lady bugs, chickens, butterflies, school houses......so, so much whimsy to smile and bring much delight to a little girl's day.

I have enjoyed having a little break from my flower garden quilt these last two weeks. Oh, I will pick it up again very soon, but with Lucy's birthday on the horizon an opportunity to EPP a child's hexie quilt seemed to be a most excellent idea. As it is Sunday I am going to enjoy stitching some more sweet hexies. I am going to find a comfy spot and with lovely ladies all over the globe, join in with Kathy's Slow Sunday Stitching and hand stitch a little, joining this little pile of hexies to the quilt; quietening the worries and woes of this deafening and troubled world, if only for a little while. Wherever you are I pray that you may smile at sprinkles of beauty gifted to you on this brand-new day❣

Until the next time.................

  11. The flowers of spring are so gorgeous, Kim! Lucy is one fortunate child to be the recipient of your handwork! And Maisie, well, what can we say?! Surely she knows the comforts of home far outweigh the tease of whatever it is she thinks might be out there?! So glad she returned. We all love happy endings. ♥

  13. Oh that hexie with the ladybugs traveling around it made me smile. I do hope that Maisie remembers the hardships you listed and stays where she is safe and well-loved in the future. I am so glad that she found her way home. Enjoy your lovely Spring flowers. We are having our first real cool days of Fall here. Had to turn on the heat yesterday.

  17. I am so relieved that Maisie found her way home, somewhat bedraggled, hungry and in need of a bath, but all in one piece. As always, it is so delightful to see your spring flowers, artfully arranged, just our season winds down. It's been down into the 30's the last two nights, but so far, the fall blooms are hanging on. The hexie quilt for Lucy is charming and will be cherished I'm sure. You are so fast at making the complex hexie blocks. If I were making such a quilt, the poor child would be graduating from high school before it was done. So nice to visit you again.

Now let's hope Maisie has learned her lesson and will not be even tempted to leave her cosy home again. Our Murphy,a black Lab, will follow her nose and cause us some anxious minutes but so far that's all it has ever been...minutes. So I can imagine how when it stretched into hours it would feel. Enjoy your spring!

I do hope your Maisie has learnt her lesson and is now content to stay at home and relax enjoying the good life she certainly gets there with you. Such a worry when pets go missing.
Spring is bursting out all over in your lovely garden everything looks lovely.

  30. Lucy's EPP quilt is lovely; I noticed all the 30s fabrics in your very first picture. Any quilt made with 30s fabrics is perfect though your complex hexies are exceptional. I had to do a bit of research after you mentioned waratahs and diosma. I coudl easily pick out the waratahs in your pictures; I found that they are endemic to Australia! Are all of yours in the reds/pinks or do you have whites? I didn't see the diosmas but perhaps the pictures on the net weren't the best. Isn't the internet amazing when it comes to learning new things that years ago would have taken a trip to the library to learn very much. From my experience, I would forget what I wan't to look up, or the spelling, or time would be my downfall. :( Having a good day; take care of your Houdini Maisie; what an escape artist she is. Perhaps she wanted to spread her wings in her later years. I've felt the same pull as I know this old body has only so much youthfulness and energy left!

  31. Oh, I’m so glad Maisie is back home safe again! Silly old dog! Hopefully her wondering is done and doesn’t put you through all of that worry. Your pretty quilt will be a beloved blanket, I’m sure. With so many fun things to look at as she wraps up, there will be many hours of delight. I’ve just started my 2-year-old grandson’s I Spy quilt for Christmas. It’s fun for me to look for scraps of interesting fabric to add. I’m hoping he’ll have as much fun using it as I’m having fun putting it together.

The weather is cooling off here in Missouri, the crops are ripening and the trees are turning. Fall is on the way. The only flowers flourishing now are late sunflowers, rudbeckia and golden rod, a sea of yellow. Our daughter hired a photographer to take little Jack’s 2 year photos here at the farm this afternoon. Andy and Jamie we’re here as was Jack’s other grandmother, Cami. I hope they turned out well. I’ll share them when we get them back. I’ve been busy planning a district gathering for a group I’m in and had it yesterday. We decided to hold it outside (thankfully) and everyone wore masks and social distanced. The weather was just gorgeous! I’m so glad it’s over. I’ll be enjoying staying safe at home for fall and winter. I hope to share some posts on a more regular basis, too. Hope you are staying well! Enjoy those beautiful blooms and your Spring weather, dear friend! Zenda

Your friends granddaughter is very lucky to have one of your gorgeous creations to bring warmth and security her way, I am sure she will feel very blessed to have it as she grows older! Beautiful prints and love the little extras you add to the centers of the blocks!
Wishing you the most wonderful week ahead as you enjoy all those blooming flowers coming your way!!

  34. Sounds like Maise had a big adventure. If only she could talk, she could write a book! Wow, you are making a hexi quilt as a baby quilt! That gift will be a treasure for sure. It is so beautiful - I especially like the ladybug blocks.

  47. Oh, Maisie, you naughty girl! You must have been worried sick while she was off on her adventure. Fences are a double-edged sword sometimes. Hopefully this has cured her wander-lust for a while. I'm sure she had no intention of getting herself lost, poor thing, and thank goodness for kind neighbors! Your friend's little daughter is a lucky little girl, indeed, to be gifted with such a lovely quilt. She will have many happy and cozy naps as she delights in all the darling little fabrics and shapes. What a kind 'Auntie' you are! 50. So very thankful that sweet Maisie is back home with you, and trust that this escapade will end her wandering ideas! I just adore springtime in your beautiful landscape... oh it is marvelous to see, even as ole man Jack Frost has made his appearance here several times recently, and my garden blooms are dwindling. I am still picking amazing strawberries though, and they are soo sweet! I think the frost must make them sweeter. I always enjoy a visit with you, and the gorgeous project you are embarking upon!
