A lovely welcome to all you lovely lovelies♥ There is sunshine in my soul today. Despite all the dreadful happenings that are playing out all over the world, here in my little sunshiny, autumnal corner of the world there is bright, happy, flowery, fabric kinda sunshine, causing my soul to sing. Why?? Because my postbox has delivered a parcel of happiness in the form of more luscious Liberty fabrics.
Are they not just the prettiest fabrics overspilling with sunshine?? I ordered fourteen 25cm x137cm strips to add to the mix which I already have. Of course, I should've, would've, could've ordered many, many more delectable strips but my good husband wanted to eat this last little while. Me, not so much. Honestly, my good husband and my good self have been munching on cup cakes and birthday cake and all manner of celebratory food for the last couple of weeks that one would think perhaps he and me would be just fine surviving a day or two....or three, without morsels of food. I mean really, if camels can store up food for a little while, why oh why can't he and me. I know for a fact there are reasonable deposits of fat stored within my body to tide me over for quite a bit (the mirror reveals this little truth to me every time I look within the looking glass)......but he, perhaps not. 'Tis such a shame that we have to eat. I would much prefer to buy fabric.
So, for the last three weeks I have been happily stitching away, piecing snippets of puzzle-like Liberty fabric and embroidered pretties into hexies. All the pieced hexies are finished. I need only to incorporate triangles of fabric along the edges to make the sides, top and bottom straight. Then I am going to stitch a lovely embroidered piece around the quilt. I am thinking a row of hexagons dancing around the border would look rather spiffy.......but I will see what happens as I play.
Later this evening I will enjoy a little more Sweet Sunday stitching; a little sweet Liberty sunshine. If it is Mother's Day where you are....somehow, in some way, enjoy a little family love. I wonder, are your family visiting you?? There are parts in the world that are beginning to ease the restrictions that we have all been living under these last months. However you choose to spend this Sunday, may it be sprinkled with loveliness.....and a little sunshine♥
My goodness Kim how early you rise!What lovely creations to see first thing on mother's day. It makes my poor efforts scrapbooking etc pale significantly. You're so creative and gifted, blessed with being able to envision and produce lovely pieces. They are just gorgeous!! I'm jealous of the talent and the beautiful location you have as autumn is one of my favourite seasons for colour too. Hope you enjoy your mother's day. I will be celebrating this one without my mum as she died just before Christmas but o was able to spend time with 2 of the girls and 4 of the grandchildren yesterday, which was lovely after being away from them for so long. Keep creating all your beauties, they are amazing and visiting you keeps me inspired!I Love the colours and prints and am inspired to get out all my half finished pieces of embroidery but there are SO many half finished pieces of EVERYTHING that demand my attention! ReplyDeleteHi Kathi, I love to wake up early and soak in the sunrise. There is always a most glorious show in the heavens every morning, especially in this part of the world. The auntumnal landscape at the moment is amazing. You must get out all those half finished embroidered pieces and begin working on them. You will be amazed that little by little they will all of a sudden be finished. =) I did not know your mum passed away last year. This Mother's Day must be bittersweet for you. How lovely for you to celebrate with two of your girls and grandchildren yesterday. It must be difficult for mums all over the world not to be able to celebrate this year with their families. Even though my two girls are miles and miles away, Pete made sure that I had a lovely day, albeit a quiet one. It was a gorgeous sunny day and I made the most of all the sunshine. We are slowly getting out of lock down. So many feel it is too soon, but with this government we have now they want it to be over. I cannot wait until we can vote and put someone in the White House that knows what they are doing and cares about people.

I love reading your posts as they are always so cheery and spirit lifting :) Our lockdown is still firmly in place, though there are those who totally disregard it. This weekend parks in cities were filled with families and young people and the beaches too. Police stopped many cars travelling for camping holidays!! As long as people keep disregarding the restrictions the longer this will go on :( Stay safe and keep well. Jane x
ReplyDeleteYes, I read of the world over there where there are throngs of people disregarding the restrictions and making life difficult for everybody. It is all a horrible mess. Here in Tassie the lockdown is beginning to slowly ease from tomorrow and as yet we haven't experienced difficult protestors. Here in Tassie we are fortunate as being a small island we can close and control our borders. It will be interesting to see where we are in a month or two. Thank you for your beautiful visit, Jane. DeleteI love how you spend time arranging the fabrics that you love for photos. Your hexi quilt is an explosion of fun and flowers. So pretty. My children are still unable to visit us here in NY. I will make a nice dinner and Hubby and I will bring plates and dessert to our mothers today. Then he and I will dine together at home. Usually we have a BBQ, but it is more like late autumn than mid-Spring here with snow squalls yesterday. Enjoy your drive.

ReplyDeleteAs tempting as your new Liberty fabrics are and charming as the hexie quilt is, I am just as delighted to see a glimpse of your beautiful Dahlias. I peeked at the tubers in the basement and did see some eyes poking out, so hopefully, if it ever warms up here, I'll be able to plant them out. Hope you had a calm and relaxing Mother's Day and that you got that ride in complete with take-out refreshments.

ReplyDeleteI am now on the lookout for all fabrics with small flower prints after I buy some gigantic chrysanthemum Kaffe Fassett fabric I just found. It's from 2015 and is so beautiful and bright. I made some throw pillows years back and the front has a large crochet pineapple piece I was experimenting with. At the time I wish I had bought more of the fabric-happens a lot to me. ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a lovely day planned for Mother's day. My hubby grilled out steaks and we had baked potato and spinach salad with it. Talked with my daughter on the phone and had a restful afternoon, then packed a little picnic and took a drive to a park that they have opened and it was a lovely evening there.
ReplyDeleteYou have made some pretty purchase with those fabrics, it is a bummer that we can't spend more on our hobbies, but I guess there are things that we need to keep going :) You have done some gorgeous piecing there, you come up with some lovely arrangements of your hexies! DeleteYour hexie quilt is really starting to bloom! Can’t wait to see it finished. What a cheery project to stitch on! Our Spring is showing up slowly. We’ve have 2 nights of frost, which is unusual here. I was out covering lots of plants and I think everything survived! After a rainy week the temps are supposed to really warm up. I think I’ll be ready. And one last super exciting piece of news - Andy is getting a promotion at work and is moving 3 hours away!! (Instead of 23 hours, by car!). I’m over the moon happy!! He’s excited to be on a new adventure so it’s a win-win. Have a happy week stitching your hexie beauty, dear Kim!

ReplyDeleteI have always been drooling a little over liberty fabrics! Their floral designs are a pure joy and I am always delighted to see how you work your magic with them! Here the weather has been so beautiful, it is a pity we have to be closed at home. I am going to go out in nature this weekend and honestly I am beyond myself from happiness. There is a poppy field out of the city which I had planned to use to do a photo-shoot for my spring / summer collection, but it all went down the drains because I dropped the project altogether at the start of the epidemic and focused on other things to occupy myself. But a visit to it would do me just fine :) Wishing you a splendid autumnal ride! Hugs!

ReplyDeleteThe fabrics are so, so pretty and perfect for your hexie quilt. The backdrop of the pretty Fall leaves pull at my heartstrings because I just love Fall but I am happy to go through Spring and Summer first. Today is the first nice day of May...64 degrees on the 15th of May. We have been having 30's. I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day. My daughter and family visited and we tried staying apart but we are all at the point of saying "whatever"! We want to be together!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, those fabrics are definitely drool-worthy and just might be worth forgoing just a teeny bit of the food budget in order to buy them. And your quilt is beyond beautiful!! Of course ALL your quilts are beautiful. Mother's Day here was not much different than usual - we Skyped with our long-distance son and his family but the circumstances right now meant that our oldest son, normally up to his ears cooking food for all the mothers being treated to meals at his restaurant, could actually do a Facebook Chat with us. That's unheard of since he started his career as a chef because he always has to work on the holidays.
