A Most Floraliciously Delightful Finish!!

A lovely welcome to my little place It is a place where there is a floraliciously, delightful quilty finish! I am so very excited! I wonder, do you jump up and down with rhapsodic glee, telling everyone who unfortunately is within earshot of hearing you bang on and on and on; that you have just stitched the last stitch on the quilt you have been working on for what seems forever??? No. Well I do. I suppose I am always a wee bit exuberant with each quilty finish because as I have said on numerous occasions, I am that gal who doesn't seem to produce a quilt in all its glory every other week.

Floralicious Delight is a quilt which dances with glorious colour and pattern. It is a veritable feast of blossomy happiness which swirls and twirls as each square settles into its possie and sings "look at me, look at me". Love, love, love all the busy-ness of all the floral loveliness. When I designed Floralicious Delight I wanted to showcase all those flowery fabrics that had been sitting in my armoire for a long time. I wanted the beauty of these flower-filled fabrics to shine in a simple patchwork quilt.

I started Floralicious Delight last October when the blossom trees first heralded that spring had once again shooed Old Man Winter and his bag of frigid tricks away to his next destination. Spring had happily set up camp ever so entrancingly on my doorstep, adorning my little place with glorious blossomy colour and perfume. The season of spring spoke to me as it always does, with the language of floral delight. Though in saying that, I consider it's always a good time to skip along the flower-lined path and fashion a pretty where there is a flower or two showcased, no matter the season.

Floralicious Delight is a simple patchwork quilt. It is a quilt where a hexden, rosette-type flower sits oh-so-prettily on a 7 inch square of floral fabric. There are 120 squares in all. Each square was then joined to each other by machine into rows, resulting in a quilt measuring 84" x 70". For the backing I used a fabric with large flowers dancing all over and I used this fabric for the binding as well. The quilting was done by hand, stitching around each square and flower. A simple design but that is what I wanted. I adhered to the KISS (keep it simple stupid) rule when quilting. I desired each floralicious square to be the star. I love the wrinkled and soft look of a hand quilted quilt, even though my hand quilting is far from perfect. Once I get in the groove, I can sit and happily hand quilt for aeons as I find the slow hand stitching relaxing and rather therapeutic.

So, another floraliciously, delightful quilt finished. Well, I think it is oozing delightful floralicious-ness....but hey, that's just me. =)  Another floraliciously, delightful quilt resting on my bed for a little while. Aahh.......flowers.....and hexies, how they make my li'l ol' heart and soul sing.  As it is Sunday tomorrow  and for months and months I have been hand stitching this pretty including many a Sunday, I am linking up to Kathy's Slow Sunday Stitching, where each Sunday lovely ladies from all over the world enjoy the pleasure of a little slow hand stitching. Oh....and I will find a little hand stitching to enjoy tomorrow; perhaps a little Sweet Sunday hand piecing to while my Sunday away.

'Tis with much gratefulness, overspilling with many thanks to you, for visiting my little flowery patch. May your day be a floraliciously delightful one

Until the next time........

  2. Dearest Kim, your Floralicious Delight is truly another masterpiece! I absolutely love all of the color, it reminds me of a field of wildflowers in cheerful bloom! Yes, I’m one who loves to share my creative accomplishments, too. Although not everyone is as excited as as I am, I can’t help myself. We are traveling to what we thought were warmer temperatures this week but apparently Old Man Winter has followed us. We are traveling farther south today and I’ll hopefully have some colorful flowers in my view -at least for a few days. Again, your quilt is gorgeous! Well done, good friend!!😄

  4. You have designed a gorgeous quilt, in all it's loveliness, and it fits perfect in your room, the colors just melt together, like they were waiting for one another :) You did a beautiful job with it all and totally understand the need to shout it from the rooftops that it is finished!!! It looks great in your garden too, I would be so worried that a bird would fly by and drop a little package on it, Ugghhh :(
I know you will enjoy starting a new project soon to stitch away on your Sunday, and I can't wait to see it :)

  5. CONGRATULATIONS! I must say I would never think to make such a wild busy quilt but I love the results. I love the inspiration I get from blogs, Pinterest, etc because it makes me see that stepping out of my regimented life is a good thing. The closest I would have dabbled into this fabric garden would have been green prints for the backgrounds and flower prints for the flowers but someday I must try a small table topper or something with all the random flowers blocks like you did. I really love all the buntings I see everywhere in cyberspace and that is also on my "projects to do" list. We have sun today which is very nice in the U.S. Midwest. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  6. P.S. I love that large mirror! What are the flowers on the wall? Paper, fabric, wallpaper or? It makes me think of Izzy's room in the nursing home in the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes".

  13. How beautiful it looks Kim! I am drooling over my computer screen. I remember when you started this beauty - it doesn't seem like so long ago to me. I always say I wished we lived closer but looking at all those gorgeous quilts you have in your room - I think perhaps it is lucky we don't ...... as some of those pretties might just "mysteriously" find their way to my house!!!

    1. Thank you so much, Kay. I suppose it's not a whole lot of time in the finishing of this pretty, but then I only quilted in a simple design...phew. I was rather in a hurry to have this quilt finished and sitting atop the bed. As ever, thank you for your sweet visit and gorgeous words. May your week be a beautiful one. Kim Xx

  17. Oh my goodness! This quilt is so scraplicious! I love each fussy-cut petal on the busy backgrounds. Well done! It is GORGEOUS in its room with the busy wall paper. A true artist created the mood in this room. I love all the photos of it on the line and the flowers with it. Wonderful! I would should a finish of this caliper from the rooftops as well. Normally my finishes get held up as I finish them in the sewing area to show to my husband and son as they sit in the adjacent living room and say, "wow, I really like that quilt" or "nice quilt, Mommy." Then a blog post gets done. Yours is FANTASTIC!

  22. I so adore this lovely floral quilt. I'd like to try a few in a somewhat smaller project (a table topper maybe). I see that the squares are 7". What is the size of the hexden petal? I've found the papers online, but they come in many different sizes. Floraliciously Delightful fits right in your beautiful gardens and makes a wonderful garden on your bed.

  25. Dear Kim, you have done it again! This is indeed a fabulous finish, and so very "you". Like some other comments, I would never have thought to pair your hexies with a floral background, my mind wouldn't have come up with that idea. But yours did, and now you have a beautiful floral garden quilt gracing the bed in your glorious bedroom. This didn't seem to take you too long at all, from start to finish. Thank you for taking us on your journey.

  32. I was so enthralled looking at the bedroom and how you'd decorated that I forgot to look at your scrumptious quilt and had to go back to the pictures again!! lol Of course, all your pictures of the quilt outside with those gorgeous blooms of yours are fabulous. I love hand-sewing, too and find it totally relaxing. When I hear people say they'd do ANYTHING to get out of hand-stitching, I just shake my head. I would be destitute without my hand work though my hand-quilting hasn't gone very far.

  33. Oh Kim, you do deserve to celebrate this pretty and how it looks on your bed! I can't believe you have only been working on this one since October...wow. Seeing it makes me want to create something similar but then I remember that sane quilting, no matter how pretty, just isn't something I can do. My attention span is dismal at the best of times!
