Drink Tea and Do Some Knitting

Very good advice if you ask me. I have been enjoying many a cup of tea this last little while and I have been enjoying knitting my aran woolly. Is it my imagination but does one seem to drink more tea when knitting?? I have been hellbent on finishing my jumper. Since I last 'chatted' with you, when a menial chore demanded some of my attention I have repeatedly said, "just a moment; let me finish this row". I always remember my darling mum saying to me "Kimmy (no-one but my mother ever addressed me so)...always finish the row you're working on before you put your knitting down." Wise woman, was my mother. So.....because I would never in a million years think of disregarding her wisdom, I always finish the row. =)

My single-minded determination of knitting till I reached the woolly finishing line, with both knitting pins raised high in the air, whilst rather exultantly shouting hip-hip-hooray; has reaped wonderful rewards. The constant clickety clack of the needles has resulted in the completion of my aran woolly. A huge sigh of relief at this juncture. This jumper really took an age to knit, and I might add I am not in the least bit sorry that it is done.

It is a jumper which oozes cabled texture and is a long one.....it covers my derriere. It is a bulky knit, perfect for those early, wintry morning walks where the landscape is shrouded in a veil of mist.

These last couple of days the mornings have been unbelievably beautiful. These mornings when the sun's rays send beams of light through the maze of mist is truly a most splendid sight. These misty mornings delight me. They declare God's loving kindness to me. Each morning is a gift from Him to me. It is these mist-filled mornings that God's awesome handiwork brings a tear to my eyes......they humble me. I will never tire of seeing the majesty of the sun rising each morning, kissing me on the cheek.

So.......me thinks whilst roaming around this little patch of paradise that I call home, on those early, misty morning meetings with my Heavenly Father, my aran woolly will keep me toasty warm.

The garden is still being a bit of a showoff; not that I mind of course. The Cosmos are still 'cosmos-ing', a few of the roses have decided to still astonish with their beauty and the Easter Daisies are in bloom delighting many a bumble bee. The longer the garden gifts me with beautiful blooms is just fine with me, thank you very much.

Little pink, orchid-like impatiens cover the ground everywhere, like a carpet. They too seed like weeds every Summer. These pretty flowers though, will soon disappear.

I cannot tell you how much I am beside myself with great joy with the completion of this woolly. My poor ol' pea brain no longer has to perform cranial gymnastics. My muddly brain pan no longer has to think about RT, LT, MB, C3, BC, FC, C4B, C4F etc etc., or indeed which row I am up to. Thank goodness for that! Though, would you believe another aran pattern has caught my eye. I know, I know.....what am I thinking!! But.......for now the most taxing thought in my muddly brain pan is in which pretty teacup will I drink my tea?? =)

Until the next time.......

  5. Oh, your wooly jumper is gorgeous as is your morning world! You are one lucky lady, blessed with gifts of artistry and living in a beautiful world. Thank you sharing these gift with all of us!! I’m still working on my crochet project now and then but have put the quilt blocks aside this week as some computer work for some organizations I volunteer with have my attention now. I hope to get a few more blocks finished later in the week and maybe share a post. The temperatures here have been up and down and it’s hard to believe Spring will be here next week. I’m ready though. Have a great week, my friend, and continue enjoying those morning walks! Zenda

    1. One always has to be fashionable when greeting the sun, Dixie. Though of course there is never anyone about, excepting the odd farmer in his tractor, clad in his dirty work clothes. But.....I am sure Old Man sun approves of my aqua woolly. =) Thank you for your lovely comments, lovely lady. Kim xx

  7. I had not imagined so were so close to completing the woolly from the last post. I am speechless because it is magnificent, both the colour and the stitch are great and it looks so soft and comfortable! Besides, it is a long jumper and I love it when it covers and hides the derriere, something that has become too rare with the jumpers that you buy ready-made. The misty landscape in your pictures is stupendous. The magic of nature seems to be sending all your beautiful flowers to sleep for a while, the time for them to come and say hello to us in the north until they return to you in a few months’ time. I love both transitional periods of autumn and spring, they make me feel humble and reassure me at the same time since I see them as a sign of eternity. Enjoy your morning walks cosily wrapped in the beautiful jumper. Hugs! Sandrine

  10. Oh Kim, I truly adored this post. I am so happy you finished your jumper, it looks so beautiful and I just love the color. You must be so proud of yourself to have finished it. I do know the feelings of trying to memorize a pattern, finish a row, or counting out loud when you need to. My husband now walks into a room, and always asks me quietly, are you counting? All of those thoughts you know, and surely appreciate.

I know you struggled with this net for sometime, but I can see as you can it was so worth it!

  11. Oh my goodness! It's absolutely stunning! Well done, Kim! I love it so much! You really out did yourself. I hope it does keep you toasty as fall approaches. I know the birds will count you as one of them because the color is so gorgeous.

  18. This is beautiful jumper, I really like the colour. My gran used to knit the most amazing things, anything I wanted she could make for me and I miss having those personalised clothes. I have tried many times and knitting just isn't for me, I find it very frustrating. x

  20. Your superbly knitted raiment is testament to your talent Kim.
A magnificent effort m'dear, and well timed for use in the near and approaching season of your bracing frosted mornings.

My dear mother was always a seemingly effortless constant knitter at every opportunity for herself and all her size shifting and growing children as well as the occasional booties, mittens and bonnets for newborns of her own and others about the immediate neighbourhood.

Alas, I was never able to master the fine art of knitting at all.
I was destined to ever be afflicted by what my charitably smiling mother sympathetically referred to as chronic DANNTS (Dangerously Awkward kNitting Needle Technique Syndrome).
Father suggested acupuncture as a career path.........not funny daddy.

I could not pick up the knitting habit but thankfully I did pick up the relaxing tea habit.

Oh! Look! There's your Maisie in the first photo.
Nonchalant and unobtrusive in the foreground of an already very good image, subtly and suddenly giving much more definition to perspective and sizing.

Once again......images so pleasing to the eye.
Just love the misty morning photos......they have a quality all their own.
And the composition......what can I say?
A good deal I would think......but I'll stop there if you like.
I'm convinced that any camera (regardless) responds to good composition.

All of the above is in my modest night-cap o' the grape humble opinion.

The composed garment, the garment caressing a bouquet, the toiling bumblebee......all wonderful.

Oooh, is this an idea for the future?

    Mmmmm.

Thank you for another interesting blog.

    1. You are too, too funny. I fear a little too much of your grape tipple?? Love the acronym DANNTS....so very clever. I must file that away in my muddly pea brain. Perhaps you should pick up those knitting pins again. You never know, perhaps in your aged years those phalanges of yours will be more attuned to the art of knitting....do give it a try. 'Sarah Lizzie's Handmade Handpicked Photo Album'......mmmmmmm.....indeed! I fear that book would be left on many a shelf (that is of course if there were those out there who would purchase it) buried under cobwebs and dust. Thank you for popping by, Mare-reemare-ree. The photos are amazing and yes, I seem to drink heaps more when knitting. I think my little brain tells me the cuppa will help me get to that next destination point on my knitting. Ahh....computers and cyberspace...sometimes.....!! As for my woolly aqua, it is wonderfully soft and warm AND I don't believe your derriere would stretch it a bit. Mine doesn't and let's just say that mine is amply padded!! =) As ever, you and your sweet comments have brought a ray of sunshine to this rather chilly morning. Your comments have delighted me. 40. Oh to see the glories of nature through your lens and your eyes - it is a rare treat for sure. And your pretty sweater - what a jewel. The pattern is divine and I can just see you wandering about in your garden in the lovely color. Your life is enchanted - and you are enchanting. We are still waiting about for a touch of spring - cold temperatures - lots of wind and rain and frosty morning - though things are beginning to peek through - tiny daffodils blooming on the deck - wild plum filling the woodland edges with puffs of white blossoms - catkins bursting out and forsythia painting everything bright yellow - now if we could just please have some warm weather - enough of this 45 degrees and wind and rain - please! But it is glorious to see the spring coming and the sun peeking through and making us smile, even as we shiver a bit. Happy weekend my dear - and have another cup of tea - I'm making cranberry pineapple bread this weekend, so stop over.

  44. Isn't it nice when our mothers called us a special name that no one else called us? I call my daughter Sammy, and when I asked her if she minded (everyone else calls her Sam), she said "no it's ok, but only you can call me that" :) My mother called me Twink (short for Twinkle Toes).

Oh, but your gorgeous sweater is a work of art. You always take something and make it truly magnificent Kim!! I love the robin's egg blue colour you chose, and it looks so snuggly warm and worthy of an autumn misty morning. I'm so glad you are finished it in time for your changing season. I love working on cables, but I have never tried something as involved as what you have worked on here. You have worked magic with those needles and yarn. 45. I just discovered your blog and what a joy it has been to see all your beautiful flowers and your many quilts and your talent ooze through cyber space. I too collect "pretties" from many odd places. My hubby was just asking me where something came this morning. I took a crocheted bed skirt and made a valance. I can't wait to show one of my friends your white chair that you did counted cross stitched flowers on. I too have read "The secret garden" many times. Another book I have enjoyed is "Blue Castle " by Montgomery. We thought spring was here this week but mother nature pulled a fast on on us last night with 2 inches of snow. Keep creating. Enjoy your writing and your sense of humor .
