“What can I give Him,
Poor as I am?
If I were a
shepherd,
I would give Him a
lamb,
If I were a wise man,
I would do my part.
Yet what can I give
Him?
Give my heart."
Christina Rossetti
I found this very old, gorgeous print in a dark little corner of an op shop. It is tattered and has seen better days but the children peering through the window, looking at the nativity scene spoke to my heart. It is titled "What can I give Him" referencing the beautiful Christmas poem by Christina Rossetti. The painting was painted by the Canadian artist J.M. Barnsley (1861-1929). I love the olde world feel of this lovely print. I love the simplicity of this poem......it says it all really. Jesus wants nothing from me but my heart; to love Him and follow Him.
I of course embellished in my signature style by adding a dash of lace and a sprinkling of Christmas decorations.......just to add a little Christmas sparkle, a little Christmas shimmer. =)
My good husband and I are off on a jet plane to warmer climes to celebrate Christmas with our daughter and son-in-law, so I will be AWOL for a week or so. I will return......that is of course if I don't dissolve into a puddle of melted corpuscles!! The jet plane's destination, I've been told is the land of heat, heat and then some!! In saying this, I am going to do my darndest to soak up as much sunshine as I possibly can (it is freezing down here at the bottom of the world at the moment).
May each one of you lovely ladies have a most joyous Christmas. May your Christmas shimmer and sparkle as you make many new and precious memories, as you gather around your family and loved ones and celebrate. May there be moments of quiet reflection when you ponder the Christmas story and all the beauty therein. Perhaps.....may you even ponder what you can give Him??
Before I board that jet plane, let me thank you all for visiting my place throughout the year; taking the time to read my posts and an even bigger thank you for always taking the time to pen such beautiful comments. I am so very thankful for each one of you. Indeed you are all treasures, always making my heart smile.
Until the next time...........Before I board that jet plane, let me thank you all for visiting my place throughout the year; taking the time to read my posts and an even bigger thank you for always taking the time to pen such beautiful comments. ReplyDeleteI love vintage artwork and Christina Rossetti - what a gorgeous find. Hope you have had a lovely Christmas Day in the heat. Phew, it was 37 here - salads and cold meats for us! The kids have been playing in the sprinkler. I used to love doing that when I was a child. Hopefully you haven't melted! I would love to live in cool Tassie. Blessings to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteI had a lovely Christmas day with my family. Funnily enough it was a lot cooler up here than way down in Tassie. I've been told everyone was sweltering down there.....a very warm 32 degrees Centigrade. We have had lovely hot weather; I have rather enjoyed all the warmth.Though, it will be lovely to go home to the cooler climate and sit in the garden. When I was a little girl I have the fondest memories of hot Summer days playing; running in and out of the sprinkler. I think every Aussie kid did that way back when. It sounds as if your Christmas Day was lovely....cold meats and salads made an appearance at our banqueting table as well. =) Thank you for your lovely comments, Jayne. May you and your family have a blessed new year. See you next year. Kim Xx
DeleteThe poem caught my attention...it was my blog post from last night with a link to the Gloucester Cathedral Choir singing...absolutely beautiful! Merry Christmas to you and yours; God speed on your travels. I'm visiting around blogland and landed here tonight.
