With Needle and Thread....and Liberty Hexies....

With needle and thread, down here in my wintry world the stitching together of hexies dancing in Liberty fabrics, continues. Slowly, slowly though, as my sore wrist wants to not co-operate. Hence, I stitch gingerly. Such a pain in the royal proverbial as there is a deadline to meet. But, I will persevere.  Of course, my inflamed wrist hasn't impeded the taking of happy snaps... unfortunately, for you. =)

With an inkling my daughter's quilt might need a few more Liberty fabrics, I acquired a few more. Fortunately, for me, my favourite quilting shop in this neck of the woods has begun to stock Liberty fabrics. Mostly cottons, but the proprietor thought she would stock a few Tana Lawns to see how her customers receive them. How serendipitous for me the Tana Lawns she ordered dance perfectly with those on my hexies pretty. I hope the Tana Lawns go gang busters because that will mean there will be more variety from which to choose. The snag with Liberty Tana Lawn here in Australia is that 1 metre of this luscious fabric costs 72 smackeroos! You read that correctly. $72 for 1 metre!! I sometimes read American quilters commiserating at the 'exorbitant' price they pay for fabric. I must admit I smile wryly at these grievances as we Aussies pay between $30-$40....and sometimes more......for a metre for most quilting fabric. To fashion quilts here could cause one to mortgage one's home. =) But......not having to mortgage the house this week (with only having to starve, really) I purchased some more Liberty pretties. Some more sweet florals in pretty colours AND a gorgeous design with itty bitty hexies in Liberty florals flourishing all over.

Isn't it pretty??!!

Of course, I could purchase even more Liberty fabrics to dance on the quilt, but as Pete says "it would be nice to eat this week". =) Begrudgingly, I concur.

Curiously; deep, deep in the forest stood a funny little toadstool cottage crafted from tangles of cane. I wonder, if one was to peek through the little windows, where soft candlelight flickered........what would one glimpse.....??

........A new story whispering in the wind....a new stitching pretty......to be imagined for my sweet Riley's birthday♡

I'm off to eat cake and drink tea; oh, and of course partake in a little hand stitching, of my Liberty hexies and a little sweet Riley's birthday present, stitching. Enjoy your Sunday, lovely lovelies, lovely friends♡ Please; luxuriate in filling your Sunday with pockets of blissful joys♡♡

Until the next time......

  1. Hi Kim
Your quilt is so so pretty. That is certainly a lot of money.
Love the little cottage, I think if you were to look through the windows you would see the fairies having tea and cake.
Look forward to seeing what you will make for Riley’s birthday.
    Have a great week

    Best wishes Kay cxx

  2. Holy cow! That's a lot for fabric! I used google to convert $72/meter--that comes out to $65.84 per yard in American dollars! Wow, wow, wow! I'm glad I'm a scrappy quilter in the USA. I'd probably be cutting up shirts off my husband's back. LOL. (Not really.) Hope your wrists cooperate this week. Happy stitching that beautiful fabric.

  3. I’m not surprised that you pay more for fabric there. You live on an island and everything has to be shipped in. Those beautiful fabrics were worth every penny for the joy they bring to you and the quilt recipients. Thank goodness you still have enough money for a few groceries!!!
I picture the inhabitant of that little mushroom house curling up with a good book by the fire, under a beautiful quilt, a cup of tea nearby. And snacks, always a snack….
Enjoy every stitch. How old will Riley be on her birthday?

  4. I am glad there are some pennies left for dinner. But every little scrap of Liberty fabric is worth the occasional meagre meal, in my world at least.

  6. I didn't realize how expensive the fabrics are by you. I won't complain about my costs. I hope your wrist starts feeling better. Can you sleep with a brace to truly give it an overnight break. That is what I do when it acts up.

  7. I'm sorry your fabric costs so much because you sure make beautiful things out of it, and we want you to keep sewing, Kim! Those Liberty florals are just gorgeous. I hope your wrist gets better for you this week. I've had some trouble with that, too - who knew hand stitching could cause injuries?!

  8. Your hexie quilt is beautiful! Liberty fabrics are beautiful but out of my price range, even here in the US. Stitching hexies sounds like a good way to spent the winter, happy stitching!

  10. Sorprendente el altísimo precio de las telas Liberty en tu país, aquí suelen ser 30 euros el metro aproximadamente.
Cuida bien tu muñeca y BESICOS.

  12. that would be too expensive for me to purchase - for most that I see here (not the one you have) is about $12-18 a yard which is almost the size of the meter

  13. The prices for good quality quilting fabric is very similar between Australia and New Zealand. My LQS sells fabric at about $33 plus a metre. I didn't reaise that your beloved Tana Lawn would sell for $72 a metre! Guess it us a similar price here. It really is so lovely though. Another beauty in the works, get get such pleasure making these, so sorry to read about your wrist pain.

  15. Oh my I haven't bought fabric in some time and I can't image I could afford that now, those prices are crazy, but I will have to say it is lovely fabric, so it would be hard to resist. sorry to hear your wrist is not cooperating, that sure doesn't make things easy when you want it done by a certain time.
